Turtle man is a genuinely nice man. My family and I ran into Turtleman at the Museum of Appalachia when we were visiting my wife's grandparents in Knoxville. Ernie took pictures with all of us willingly with a genuine smile on his face the whole time and as we were going through the different outbuildings at the museum I was able to learn quite a bit about him because Turtleman had no problem carrying on a conversation with me. We met Ernie's girlfriend and her daughter both whom he spoke highly of. I guess what I'm getting at is that soft hearts grieve hard and I am very sorry for your loss Turtleman and thank you for the memories! May god soothe your soul during this time of sadness and darkness and to everyone who is feeling Neal's loss, my heart goes out to you all. Be well and godbless.

I met neal once at a flea market in southern ohio..one of the most down to earth man you would ever want to meet..im sure hes pickin that banjo for jesus and dancing with the angels ....i hope to see you up there someday bro.

I got to meet Neal a couple yrs ago in London at the Shriner's bluegrass festival. He played my blue banjo that I had just finished setting up a few days prior. I even got to pick a couple tunes with him. He was down to earth & a lot of fun to be around. Even though I'd only met him that day, he made me feel like a good old friend right away. I have a feeling he was like that with everyone he met. I will always treasure that memory!!!!!!! RIP Neal James. Enjoy God's paradise!!! We'll be up to join you in a little while.

I was a huge fan back in the day of these underrated shows..... the turtle man, swamp people, river monster, alaskan bush people, tanked and parking wars.... they either involved dealing with the wild animals or ignorant people...both can be extremely dangerous RIP Banjo Neal (coming from a devoted fan in 2023)

Coming here after two years but I have to say Neal you Turtleman Squirrel and Jake shaped my love for the backwoods which I forget often due to my busy schedule and being in high school but when It slows down I find peace and beauty in the backwoods and rediscover my love for it
