I have a 2017 Africa Twin, same colors as yours. I converted my rear wheel to tubeless using the 3M tape method and a 90 degree Ariete valve stem. Makes tire changes much easier. And roadside repairs are from the outside. Generally punctures happen to the rear wheel. So far I’ve been using Shinko 705’s on it, but just got a set of these Tusk tires to go on next. I’ve been mounting and balancing my own tires for a long time. The biggest secret is all about getting the opposite bead in the drop-center of the rim. I’ve even mounted a car tire on the back of an FJR1300 (ended up not liking the dark-side) using spoons. It’s all about the technique, not brute force.

For the extra minute or 2 it takes for a tube I'll stick with those, id still be carrying a rear tube in case the seal fails. I've been changing bike tires for many years with my beadpros, generally it takes no more then 5 minutes to put a new tire/tube in. These tusk tires and trail max mission are the only 2 with very stiff sidewalls that have been a slight annoyance for ne...plus I have very large hand which absolutely doesn't help
@northeastadventuremotorcycleri

Tip, put a little bit of air in that tube first and then install it inside of the tire before putting it on the rim, and then once you put the tire in place to slip it onto the rim, pull the inner tube out by the valve stem and feed it through the hole in the wheel, attach the nut to hold it in place and then install the tire, this way you're not having to fish for the valve stem when the tire is already on the rim as that is a royal pain in the ass LOL
@dimsyadventures

The problem is the stiff sidewall, I've changed many tires this way over the years with little or no problem, these and Trail Max Missions are the only tires have had an issues installing.

@@dimsyadventures I was doing the same thing forever, also used tire valve puller intermittently, but it was actually Lyndon Poskitt's video I saw and after that I have been putting tube into the tire before putting tire on rim. As they say there is always more than one way to skin the cat, as far as it works for you - it's all that matters. This is the video I am referencing, starts around 15:05 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ2ddcRokpuzeZs.htmlsi=bdWvuCPoXx0gFiZ9&t=905

You had an oven right there...put them inside on keep warm for awhile. They will spoon on like butter.
@dimsyadventures
@dimsyadventures 6 ай бұрын
Well there's a few issues with that, the tires won't fit, the small oven isn't deep enough, also id rather not make my whole apartment(and my neighbors) smell like a tire factory, and lastly, if I fix a flat on the trail, pretty safe bet, I won't find a working over in the bush, it's a new tire with little info, I use tools I carry to put them on, vs having to find out if I can do them when trouble arises.

Good video. I have a set waiting to go on my 1090. I was kind of disappointed with how stiff these sidewalls are. I stopped buying Moto Z because they were so stiff and I could never get the sidewall to seat the bead (1090 is tubeless) without serious drama. I’m really dreading mounting these tires because of it.
