I hate to say it...but the first Saw movie creeped me out the most. Jigsaw was a normal guy who went after people he felt were "bad." I drove home thinking, "I'm...living my life to the fullest...right?"

Don't feel bad about liking the first Saw movie, it's a terrific movie. Very artistic, wonderful story, has a life lesson, and a great twist. After the first movie, however, it plummets from "Art House movie" to "Trap-tastic Gore-a-thon" lol

***** I dunno, I kinda liked the second one and I thought the third one was almost as good as the original because of the great character development and story. The big reasons I like to watch earlier Saw movies is because of their fantastic storytelling. They always find some way to surprise you in the end with an awesome twist. It did become a simple gorefest after a while, so I stopped watching around Saw V, but I pretty much like all of the first three. Especially the first and third.

I agree with this review 100%. I wanted to rinse my brain thoroughly after watching Tusk. It was awesome during the first 30 minutes, and then it totally went bizarro-shock WTF after the girlfriend and fellow podcaster reach Canada. That ending made me feel dirty. You will never look at a sea lion the same way again. You have been warned.

Huge props to Kevin Smith for making a very risky movie. This could've really crashed, but it didn't. It's a good movie, no alcohol required for me. It had plenty of memorable scenes that I won't soon forget. It's going to be fun to see how Tusk is viewed over time.

***** (I haven't seen this movie yet, but) I don't get what kind of trilogy could he possibly make out of this? Like....will there be two more serial killers, a yoga instructor and a guy with a moose mouth?
@nathanhuff9606
@nathanhuff9606 9 жыл бұрын
2 million at the box office isn't crashing? Granted, the budget was low. I would assume 4-5 million, but on top of that you have advertising costs. I find it hard to believe this movie turned a profit. I doubt Smith cares which I respect, but the movie did not do well critically or commercially. Personally, I didn't like it. It was tonally all over the place and the movie fails as a comedy on every level. It's heavy handed with its message and I honestly only felt the good performance was Howard Howe. The rest felt just passable. I do like Kevin Smith a lot but this is a huge misstep for me. Moosejaws sounds hilarious though.

No I am perfectly within my bounds to say that it's Johnny Depp because 99.999% of the audience seeing this movie are seeing it because they are Kevin Smith fans and Tusk only happened because of the fans...and Kevin Smith fans should be well aware that he's friends with Depp and their daughters went to school together..not to mention Smith mentions him all the time on Smodcast which is where this movie spawned from!! AND the only people who even know about this movie are Smith fans because the marketing team specifically chose to only market this on social media straight to his fans who are the only ones who will see it...so don't fuckin complain that I spoiled it when this information had been talked about by him in Smodcast and if u don't listen to Smodcast or aren't a Smith fan them why the fuck are you watching Tusk anyway?
@FellowshipOfTheForce
@FellowshipOfTheForce 10 жыл бұрын
And there is a poster for this movie out there with Depp's profile on it that says "Introducing Guy LaPointe as Guy Lapointe" and on the IMDB page it says right there Guy Lapointe= Johnny Depp....and it's not really a big deal if u know it's a Depp before u see it...it doesn't look like him at all and odds are u will probably be distracted trying to figure out who it is which will detract from ur viewing experience...it's probably better to know who it is before u watch it

When the movie starts out it is legitimately funny then, about the time it gets to where Justin long passes out when he drinks the tea (spoiler alert )the movie takes a nosedive into gore porn. and Jeremy is right it just goes for shock value after that. after the scene where they show Justin long as the walrus and then the movie tries to go back to being funny it's just not funny anymore. because you're so disturbed by Justin Long that any jokes you try to pull after that do not come off as funny they come off as out of place I absolutely had the same thought Jeremy did when I watched this I am Hey Kevin Smith's fan but this is the first movie that I just couldn't say was good. Gore porn torture porn is not scary it is just shock value pure and simple you can mix whore with, but you can't mix shocking torture porn with comity because people really don't feel like laughing after they watch a serious scene of someone getting mutilated and turned into a walrus

Jerry McCrary I've spent most of my life studying the most fucked up parts of the human psyche, and the fucked up things people have done. A Serbian Film really just wasn't all that shocking to me. Look up Armin Meiwes. Read up about "consensual cannibalism", and then go find those oh so silly little people of the Dolcett community. Then get back to me on how disturbing a fictional movie was

Here in Slovakia that movie - Hostel - is viewed almost as a comedy.. like all the over the top characters, the popular music from the 80' (from then Czechoslovakia) used in the movie, the view of "Bratislava" (movie was filmed in some czech village :D ), the Gypsy kids bubblegum gang, some of the czech, slovak and russian phrases used in the movie, etc.. yes, that movie is comedy gold :D.. except for the violence scenes - they are brutal

I mean with Kevin Smith as a director how'd you not expect comedy to be in there, even in his drama movies like Jersey Girl, there's comedy, honestly though I don't watch any of his stuff without Jay and Silent Bob in it, on principle, some one had to get me to watch Zack and Miri make a porno which I enjoyed but without Jay and Silent Bob his movies just seems like some generic crappy movie...

Ha ha really? have you see an Ed Wood movie? Kevin Smith has control over his characters and dialogue in a good way, Ed Wood just wanted to be weird as fuck and made shitty movies because of it, KS doesn't always make good movies but he's made a good handful of enjoyable flicks, I think Tim Burton is a better example of your comparison, Tim Burton is a fucking joke.

The most disturbing horror film I've ever seen is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974). I've only seen 2 Kevin Smith Films - Mallrats and Dogma. Both are good in their own ways and they show that Kevin Smith is a pretty versatile filmmaker and that he deserves to make a comic book movie. Which reminds me - I'm still fucking pissed that they scrapped his ideas for The Green Hornet movie and made that Seth Rogen abomination instead!

I can't get behind anything in which Kevin Smith is involved in. Nothing against him personally or even about his work, but I recently saw the movie Clerks 2, and it left me emotionally traumatized. Turning 30 and coming to the conclusion that all your hopes and dreams have been shattered; realizing that your twenties were a waste; stuck in a dead-end job; end of a marriage; that damn movie is like a fucking trigger for deep, soul-sucking depression for me. So, no more Kevin Smith for me, thank you very much...

I think the whole point of Tusk was "Fuck it! how weird can we get?". based on the fact that Smith made a film based off of an idea he got from one of his podcasts. People shouldn't go into this movie expecting something super serious or some kind of masterpiece. The movie is a bit of mindless fun, and to me that's what made it great. In a world of tarantinos and Speilbergs, you gotta have the guy who makes the weird shit. This movie was that weird shit and it succeeds loads and loads in that respect. so if you're into weird shit, check Tusk out. SNOOGANS!

This movie was very flawed as a comedy film. I mean, the whole Johnny character is totally stupid. I didn't think it was a comedy film really, I mean, it's disturbing. But as a horror film, while not being a masterpiece, it's pretty nice and very DISTURBING, because to think that really happened freaks me out. Can you imagine that you are taken away from 90% of your humanity and you become an animal. I mean, he (spoiler) cut off his legs, inserted new muscles, chopped off his tongue, mutilated his vocal cords, ect. It's disgusting in a good way and anguished. A fate worse than death. And I kind of like the final message of the film and that he decided to live in his new situation after all. Besides, Michael Parks (great performance) character is very interesting: that's how some becomes a psychopath, when you only knew pain, rapture and misery. So, putting all this on a balance, I think the film is 6/10. Basically, if the movie made you think about human condition while feeling anxious, it succeeded. I must watch The Human Centipede now, but from what I've been told, it's worse.

Don't watch Human Centipede 3 for the love of God. Also, this never happened in real life. It was a hoax on craigslist that inspired Kevin Smith.

I stopped caring about Tusk after Justin Long made his full "transformation." There was no reason to care about him or his struggle after that. Unlike Misery, where there's a good balance of forces between the protagonist (the injured Paul Sheldon) and the antagonist (the insane Annie Wilkes), Tusk just throws Wallace (Justin Long) into the wood chipper without much of a fight. Smith basically wanted him to be a walrus, but didn't put enough conflict in the story leading up to his transformation for us to care.

Because he is, bitch! He's a better writer, but he's good. A fellow Clausen should know that.

***** He didn't write that one. Haven't seen it, this, or Red State. But the movies of his that are sheer screenplay like Jersey Girl or Chasing Amy are the best. No, he's not great as a director which neither of us said he was but since the kind of movies he makes that I really like are primarily drama and comedy. he doesn't need to do any directing other than keep the camera on his actors and keep them acting.

***** Kevin Smith himself says, "Fuck Kevin Smith for making that movie!" He's a good director, great writer, and a really funny person. I'm a fan of Kevin Smith and his podcasts, not really his movies, even though I do love some of his flicks. I'll watch anything involved with Kevin though, A lot of people are just fans of him.

Michael Clausen Jersey girl is not a good argument, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma...were all quality films and those are the reason i defend him, Clerks 2 and Jay and silent bob strike back are funny movies but by no means great. Zack and Miri was nice to see his funny writing with new faces. Red State sucked balls though
