I think the cruelest thing about this movie was the girlfriend stopping the mercy kill. Even if Wallace underwent corrective surgery, his life would be completely different and the extreme trauma would no doubt haunt him for the rest of his days.

its a mercy kill without consent. they literally couldve stopped that kill and then try again asking wallace to wiggle or blink 3 times if they should kill him or try surgery
@Zethyzingerrooo11 ай бұрын
@@marcoaraiza9381agreed, as cruel as it would’ve sounded in the moment “mercy killing” wally would’ve been taking more choices away from him. Later on he could request a DNR so if his heart gave out they could not revive him if his vitals failed. (Or in modern day canada, request medically assisted suicide) But if wally wanted to keep fighting for his life? That choice would have to be up to wally or his family. In a scenario where they actually take him to a hospital, if he survived the initial bacterial infections it wouldn’t be that impossible to get him out of the suit and to free his arms. Hes able to move in the movie reasonably well so we can assume hes mostly intact underneath. Maybe a few skin grafts might be needed. Plastic surgery even at that time was doing amazing things so while it would take the most time/not look “exactly” like his original face is still possible. The hardest part for wally would have been pain management, the huge amount of physical therapy for him to recover/learn how to walk again, and the mental therapy to help him work through what happened to him and help accept his new disabilities. Im pretty confident that if they had given wally a chance instead of dumping him at that shitty zoo, he still had a very good chance at a fairly normal life, just not as a podcaster

Very few movies have this kind of horror. That being having someone purposefully surgically mutilated in a way that they don't die, but are forced to adapt. It is such a uniquely horrific idea that I made a dnd campaign for it, and to this day my friends still say that I traumatized them with the word pictures I painted lol.
