Hey everyone!
This is a simple tutorial I use all the time to enlarge and project photos on to canvas so that I can draw and trace round lines to get exact measurements.
I hope this is helpful!

Very much like the old masters used to do. You have brought a very affordable way for anyone to enlarge an image. I use a projector, but I am lucky to have one. This is so nice for those who want to enlarge images.

you are right freehand drawing is not easy, it takes plenty of practice. Vincent Van Gogh said, to be a Fine Art painter, you have to start with drawing. Wish you luck with your paintings

Brilliant!! I am a silk painter and I frequently need to enlarge my drawings to the proportion of the canvas I will be mounting my silkpainting on (photo>tracing>enlargement). This is by far the simplest, easiest, and cheapest means I have seen of doing that! Thank you for saving me $ on a fancy projector:))))

You are a life saver!! I am making a display at work (Lowes) for the christmas tree tent area. I needed to project an image onto a fence panel so I could paint it on there. Our projector is missing and to rent one for a 20 minute job was crazy. I have tried some other methods and they didn't work. THIS WAS PERFECT!! I can't thank you enough for making this video!!

This is such a great idea! I think I’ve heard of it before, but you explained it all so well. I trace a LOT, using carbon paper or just laying down a lot of graphite or color pencil on the back of the photo or image, bc I just don’t want to take forever before I can even start painting… the drudgery of erasing, drawing, adjusting, erasing, again, and on and on before I can even get get going with the best part. Thanks so much!

Thank you! I'm always trying to find ways to do art for cheaper! Speaking of, read below for alternative canvas idea where a 2ft×3ft size is about $10!No link, just name of item to buy. A few years back, I saw interesting fabric on sale at random store. It turns out it was meant for making bread & bought it for baker friend. They said they don't use this so I kept it. It's called: " PROOFING CLOTH " or " BAKERS COUCHE ". This is REAL LINEN. Linen is made out of FLAX PLANT. It's a thick, tight woven fabric. When I felt it and inspected closer, it looked like what a canvas looks like. This thing is 2 ftX3ft long, and it was less than 10$!!! You CAN buy linen canvasses for art, but that same big size would cost 50 or 60$ in an art store. But as a baking item, super cheap despite being same thing. You can find on temu, wish, amazon etc... some as low as 3$ It comes folded so there's creases, but you have options to flatten: 1) mist lightly after laying flat on surface and place heavy objects on creases and edges after pulling edges out. Leave for a few days till dried. ( you may have to repeat) 2) USE AN IRON. This is natural fabric, so you can use your iron on low, using the steaming mode ( don't iron fabric that's dry). If you have basic iron with no steaming mode, mist the fabric yourself with bottle and use iron. Be patient, low and slow. Use force and slowlybwuggke back and forth to work crease out. . So, fellow artists! Try it out. You will need gesso if you want a smoother surface. This is great for painting. Now, it doesn't have a frame behind it like canvasses. But you can still hang it in wall as is or frame yourself if you wanted to. If you wanted tonuse heavy paint mediums like mideling paste or gel mediums, you will need to frame fabric so it can support the weight. I hope, to those still reading, that you at least try this once if you're an artist on a budget. It's NOT white. It's a light tan due to natural hue of the plant its made from. But this is great for acrylic and oil painting. If you have watercolor ground, you can use that to use your watercolors on it too. I'll be recording my first proofing cloth project starting April 16th, if anyone wants to check out how it works. You can watch me fogure out how to work with it for the first time ( after LOTS of research!) If you're unsure before buying and want to Google more about it, you get more informative results by googling " painting on linen canvass", instead of googling " painting on proofing cloth". Apparently, not that many people have discovered that linen canvas and proofing cloth same thing. Happy frugal arting, folks!
