I've just watched this which automatically played after I watched your 'changing the battery' tutorial. My battery only lasts for a minute but I won't bother to get a new one because I only use the unit when plugged into the car. Your videos are superb and clear, and should be a model for all other authors!

@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Hello friend. I see that you are an expert on Garmins. So I would like to share some of my experience with them. Sometimes I insert a battery that is very bad in one Garmin, but in another it is excellent. It is as if it was registered as a new battery in that Garmin.Do you know anything about it?

Thank you for the tutorial on Garmin batteries(replacement and doubling)! Wanted my old Nuvi40LM battery to last longer out of vehicle on long bike rides and save remote trail access points in rural areas. Just subscribed and look forward to more of your well described and step by step tutorials.

As I watch most all your posts ,I noticed in one of them you were tinkering with a drive smart 61 lmt-s with the 6.95 screen. what is your take or review of it, thinking of buying one because I like the look of the screen without 1/2 inch plastic walls.

Hi, although the ones with the plastic frame look ugly, they are much more robust and sturdier than the frameless ones. The frameless models break with a minimal fall, whereas the older models can take some beating without breaking.

I appreciate you explaining about reusing the board off of the device you're taking it off of. I did not know that. What would a good brand of screwdriver to use for this? There are cheap ones that come with the replacement batteries, but I'm interested in what you use. Thanks!

If you wanted to make an old Garmin Nuvi have the absolute longest battery life , what combination of GPS and battery would you use? I took an almost new one for a walk in the wilderness once and almost got lost because the thing was dropping battery so quickly. I had to turn around and go back. And even then I could not keep it on continuously. I think it was a 205. I also have 265w, 1300, 770, etc. I am wondering if certain series have better battery life or bigger batteries, or at least room for bigger batteries. I guess using a dedicated hiking GPS is a lot safer. Since you can change to new standard batteries two or three times on the hike. Also, my favorite Nuvi is the 5000. Unfortunately, one of it's weaknesses is that it has no battery at all. But my car shuts off power to the cigarette lighter every time you shut off the engine. So it is hard to program it without wasting fuel. I suppose I could get one of those battery packs with USB plugs and plug that into the cigarette lighter and then plug the 5000 into the battery pack. I just wondered if there was somehow a way to add a battery internally.

Hi, the Nuvi 1300 is too slim and it doesn't have enough room to add another battery, but you could do it in your 265W. To get the most out of your battery reduce the screen brightness and turn off the Bluetooth. If you add a batter to the Garmin 5000 you will also need a control board and there is no room inside it for that. The best option would be a portable battery bank and a BGI-USB1 cable to have power all day without any car chargers or wall outlets.

Hi, Many thanks for your content, I've found it very useful when trying to resolve some issues with my Garmin 590 motorcycle gps. I'm looking to replace the battery but the end connector (a 5pin, 4 of which are wired) is broken and causing a poor connection. Do you have any links as to where I can purchase the connector on the battery pack, please?

You are very welcome. Yes you can get that connector from AliExpress or eBay. To find it, you must enter 5 criteria in your search sentence. 1. The number of pins, 2. The gender of the connector, 3. The size of the connector, 4. This distance between the pins, 5. The mounting mechanism. For example: 5pin Female connector 6mmx2mm 1mm pitch cable mount

Love it, but how do you Safely Discharge the battery ? Also, would be nice if could do replacing batteries on lets say hand tools like screw drivers :-) Thanks again.

You don't have to completely discharge them just discharge them enough so that they are too weak to rush current to each other causing heat or even fire. In other words the voltage difference between them should be no more than 0.1 Volts. Yes you can do this with power tools too, most of the power tools use rechargeable cylindrical cells like AA batteries. So you can replace just the cells which will be much cheaper than buying a new battery pack.

By using a set of jumpers, one can connect an old automotive head lamp as a resistive load to fully discharge each battery without over heating and damaging the battery. An old style sealed beam head light can be picked up at second hand stores for pennies on the dollar. I use a 6 VDC tractor seal beam head lamp out of an old Ford tractor that was converted to a 12 v system.

Khalid - I'm afraid the credit card company will asked the card holder if have returned the merchandise, to which they will answer, No. The credit card company will then tell them until they do that, they cannot dispute the charge. If they tell the card company they never received the item. The Con artist well then supply the card company with the tracking number, and again they will deny the dispute. I'm afraid the only hope you have is to get Amazon, e-Bay, etc, to not issue a refund until you actually receive the merchandise and OK the refund.

Good point, but the tracking number was generated by me and he stole it with his fraudulent transaction. The buyer can say that tracking number was for a gift sent by me, not for the purchase from the scammer.

Yes, using one larger cell is much easier but not always available for that specific size inside the GPS unit.

Your absolutely correct, @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 As for the being able to tell which type of way current/voltage is read ,won't matter will it if your using a Garmin control board ? Also do you rewrap the batteries with a tape or something? to insulate it?

@@mickeybaker7877 As long as individual cells are only 3.7V each and they are connected in parallel, it should be fine. I use high-temperature tape because inside the car, on the dashboard, it gets really hot when the sun hits it.
