I recommend doing all your edits, manual gates, and quantization prior to reampimg. It will sound way more natural.

My Boss GT-100 (as well as the tabletop version; the Boss GT-001), has a USB interface with re-amp abilities built in. You can record the direct signal and the effects signal simultaneously. If the mood strikes you to re-amp the track, just solo the direct track and send it back to the unit via USB and record the new sound. The best part is that it's all digital and handled over USB. The track only goes through a single analog-to-digital conversion when the guitar signal is recorded the first time. This means low noise and low latency, and the levels are always spot on and require absolutely no adjustment.

On the focusrite interface you can set the outputs to grey so they dont get affected by the master control.

@10:03 You may already know this but if you're using the Focusrite Mix Control you can actually disable monitor mode on said output which results in an output level of 0dB regardless of how you set your monitor volume on your interface!

Outputs of focusrite are TRS...Yet you plug a XLR out of focusrite into reamp box.....Great start for an explanation

I didn't know that, but as a guitarist I would never refuse to hear my real tone while playing and recording. I think that those little nuances between the specific sound behavior of your guitar amp and your instrument are quite unique, and a factor that a musician must control and feel while playing. Anyway, this technique is awesome and very creative. Is there any musician that approve this recording technique? I'm curious.

I think the Pro 40's mix control software actually has a way to route the signal in which the volume knob does not affect certain outputs.

Hey Fluff, in the master section of the saffire pro software (saffire mixcontrol) if you shift-click the button related to the output you need, making it grey, it will automatically bring the level to 0 db without bringing the master level of the interface all the way up. Try it

You're touching a subject I've been trying to ask you before regarding the volume of the Re-amp signal! I would have to say, that the volume of the DI-track & the volume of the output signal from the interface going in the Re-amp affects the tone. Wouldn't you? And if so, how do you set it up? Recording DI is one thing, and I'm with you with not making the DI Clip, but again. How do you "volume-match" the Re-amp signal with the original Guitar-signal? ;) I'm just winging it, so it sound good, but I would have to say it still does affect the tone! :)

Well, technically, the output levels can OR can *not* be controlled by the master volume of the audio interface - it depends entirely how you've got the routing & selections set up in the control software. For instance, on the Saffire 40, when the buttons for the outputs (in the mid-lower right) are blue, they're controlled by the "master" knob; when they're red, they're muted; if you Shift+click on them, they go grey, and their output is set to 100%, regardless of the position of the "master" knob.

I don`t understand how to get a balanced XLR output from your interface, when all of the outputs are jack outs. How did you do that?

What I do is exporting the wav files of the DIs to my iPad. Then using audiobus and an app called Audiophile I play the tracks thru JamUp and then re-record with my audio interface on Cubase.

I think the one advantage that many people forget is that because reamping is silent, you can make all your mistakes and take lots of time to get it right THERE rather than pissing off your neighbours by having your amp running for much longer, just trying to get the take right. The only thing they will hear is your now perfect take when you decide to reamp it (for a lot less time too).

Fluff, what about latency? If you're reamping one track, but have other tracks that are already wet you might end up having phase issues. Do you find yourself having to move the tracks back slightly?

Hello Mr Ryan Bruce. first of all please excuse my English. I tried to reamp myself but could not get enough power from amp. DI track, out 1 from my interface which is Suffire 6 to reamp box that same one as you use goes to amp. pro tools say out1. not out 1-2. my interface's monitor and mixer is all the way up. reamp box's knob is all the way up too. I tried input and output. few years ago I went to studio with all my DI tracks and couldn't get enogh power. I was using radial X amp. so I went to another studio. resulted the same.... now I learned how to do it from your video and several others then tried my own came out same result. there is not enough Gain. so, I thought my X amp was broken, I purchased the same one you have. I tried but sound weak... (like as if Im playing with guitar knob set to 2 or something... not enough Gain) I went to all the forums that I could find and found out that many people are having same issue. but they could not pointed out why... btw, Im pretty sure my DI signals are fine. I tracked very low, high, and with pad switch. 2 pro studios and myself failed miserably. I used amp simulator in pro tools and sounds totally fine. do you use somekind of preamp or booster before reampbox? Thank you very much for reading. Daisuke (Dai) Wachi from Divine Era

You should cover passive and active pick ups..verses active and passive reamp boxes....there is a differences ...passive pick up have to have a active reamp....active pick ups do not....Vary important. Good point on interface volume..

Do you ever have to compensate for the few milliseconds of delay that occur from coming out of your interface, through the hardware and back in? I know this is something that has to be manually adjusted in Pro Tools. Just curious if Logic has some type of hardware delay compensation. Thanks.

Best re-amp vid I am curious. I have heard if you pan it wrong during this process half the signal will be lost. So up the middle for recording each mono and then pan later?

I built my own Re-Amp box for under 50€. This thing rocks and sounds amazing. I can at least hear no difference between a real recorded take and the reamped signal! So, no need for a 100 € (or Dollar) Re-Amp box, if someone wants to save money.

I'm recording from a powered mixer sending an RCA signal through "rec out" to a Behringer interface. My question is about getting that recorded signal from my DAW to a balanced line out. My DAW only has a stereo out. Could I run that into the "play in" RCA jacks on the powered mixer, then run the monitor send into the reamp box? There is also a quarter inch headphone jack, but I don't know if that's balanced or not. I suspect it's not. The powered mixer also has an effects loop with a quarter inch line out jack for left and right channels.

So what would I do if I’m recording someone other than myself and they want to hear their guitar distorted how it would be on the song? Not just hear the direct signal

I have a countryman 85 that I usually use for recording DI into my DAW and then use amp sim & cab IR. But I am now trying to record an actual amp and then use an IR on that. I'm very confused if, once the DI has been recorded, can I then use the Countryman to reamp the signal into an amp? Or do I need a whole other box? There is an AMP output on the Countryman but looking online I see only that it is used for DI. In the manual it seems as though you can plug the instrument or pre-recorded DI into the amp, then use speaker mode to route that sound to a cab. But since I will only be using the signal from the amp direct and then use a cab sim in my DAW, is there a proper way to do this? Can this be done with the COuntryman 85 or do I need to buy a dedicated reamp box? And is there a risk of me blowing up my amp or interface if I do any of this wrong? I've watched a bunch of videos but I am still very confused, please help!

from what you you know, does it make a difference whether you record direct tracks from your guitar in hi z input or into a d.i. ? Other then the fact that the d.i can split your signal to an amp at the same time.

If I have a DI box, no re-amp box and no money, can I use the DI box as a re-amp box by hooking it up backwards?

What you also can do is route your signal into your micpreamp, use a pad or bring the gain down, then route from the micpreamp into the amp. Then adjust the volume of your track in the daw, voila. Ànd if your guitar track sounds muddy with your amp, do a broadband boost and gentle slop cut of the lowend of the DI signal in your daw, and you'll be amazed how it can help the sound. Probably not recommended but it works! If you don't want to buy a reamp box, or can't afford one (me!), try it! :)

If the master volume has to be all the way up, how can you monitor your re-amped tone if you aren't using a real cab? That would blow my speakers. Do you just use headphones and mute the monitors?

Hi there - One thing that immediately stands out for me here is something I immediately have a question on: It seems like as far as adjusting your tone to taste, you can't really get in there and do it during playback (what I'll call "2nd recording"). It seems like you'd have to hit Record, listen to your amped sound (while the dry signal is simultaneously being played back out of the interface into the amp and the wet sound is coming back in and being recorded) and if you aren't keen on it, you'd need to adjust to taste, then re-record until you're satisfied. Do I have that right? The reason I'm asking this is because I would like a situation where (let's say I'm using a software amp, not a real amp, but it would apply to both) I'd like to just hear my tone played back through the amp of choice, and adjust it while it's playing back first before actually doing the second recording. Is there a way to do that?

I can't seem to get my signal to be loud enough going into the amp. It doesn't push at all. I'm running my signal out of a Behringer UMC404 into an ART Dual RDB into a Peavey Classic 50. Even with the drive channel, there is no push in the amp. Any suggestions?

Hi guys! I have a Steinberg UR44 audio interface. It has two main outputs: left and right. Each output is unbalanced as far as I know. How can I connect the left main output of Steinberg UR44 to the balanced input of Radial Pro RPM?

I've just noticed that neat arrangement thing in logic on your screen (where you've marked chorus, verse etc). Can Reaper do that? I usually use markers, but this looks so much better.

A couple questions (I'm very new at this), must you have a load box/attenuator when reamping? Second, can you use a cabinet as a substitute? Lastly, if you use a cabinet, is the sound of your recorded guitar tracks playing through the amp and cabinet at the level the amp is set?

I have that same reamp box but I keep getting a weak signal which doesn't drive my amp despite having the gain knobs on my sound card and reamp box like 75%-80% up. Can something be wrong on the recorded DI track or something?

This is true, I also had to find out for myself that you need the master volume up, I run through a Focusrite liquid Safire. You mentioned that the master volume on the interface has to be fully up. But I don’t want my monitors on full volume while reamping. I tried turning them off but this stops any reamping signal. Is there a way round this? I could possibly try turning the DB knob down on the back of my Yamaha monitors. Thank you

I have an Orange Rockerverb MK II amp and a Palmer PDI-03 speaker sim and TASCAM US-1641 interface. Also I'm using Studio One 3 Pro. Can I re-amp with this setup? Fluff, do you have any problems with reamp signal being quieter than your guitar's signal? I own Radial Pro Rmp Reamp box (passive) and the reamped signal doesn't push the amp like guitar straight in does.

Hey you say something of the volume in the end of your video , that you had to learn for yourself and didn't know. But what did you mean? Do you mean you have to put the master volume of your interface (or the output volume?) to the maximum to have no loss of audio information? It's really unclear...
