With this step-by-step tutorial, you can do it yourself in your garage! This works for all 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.4L engines.

This is a great video. The step-by-step instructions with explicit explanations helped me tremendously. My red Solstice GXP looks exactly like the one in the video. I was able to reset the tensioner for the water pump using the information shown in this video. Thanks

What a nightmare! I was thinking about buying a Solstice, but I changed my mind after seeing what is involved in changing the water pump. The engineer who designed this motor is definitely not a mechanic. Your video saved me from a future nightmare. Thanks!

Another great video from you. I undertook this same process on my NA 2.4 Solstice based on some confidence I found while watching your previous videos. +1 for the Cloyes kit. Mine came with the new water pump. When I went to replace the balance shaft sprockets I sheared my punch 2 times. It wouldn't budge. At that point I decided they were perfectly fine and kept them. Doing it on a NA with no turbo was a dream compared to this. No need to jack the motor, remove the exhaust manifold or take the WP out in two pieces. At least one advantage if you can put up with less power. Once again, thx for the vid you have at least inspired me to take on jobs like this.

Thanks for the video. Great to have for the community. I just did this job and you do not have to take the bumper off, etc., just the radiator fan (you can even leave the radiator in). There is decent room even with just that (and the charge tubes and shrouds, etc.). My 2 cents. I had to use pullers for the balancer and the sprockets. Make sure to buy new friction washers…you probably say that. I also suggest having the manual and all applicable sections. Also make sure and have good torque wrenches.

Excellent, excellent video! Great camera angles too. I have one of these cars and I always wanted to know what it looked like under the covers. What impresses me is how you remember where it all goes back cause this is your first time on this model, right? You're doing it professionally like you've done 50 of them. And seem to know what to look out for before you get to that step. Amazing!

Those two lower sprockets that are on the same chain as the water pump, what do they do? You were turning them quite easily so they can’t be a valve cam. I see one sprocket was marked intake and the other exhaust.

Just for laughs...I am Canadian and we get F**** in this country for everything. Just called my local GM dealer for pricing to do to my Solstice exactly what you are doing....good thing I had a strong heart...$3800.00 to do this job..All the parts I need on Rock Auto = $500.00 and thats everything...lol..looks like I will be tackling this myself in the spring...thanks for the video!

Is there anyway that I can tell if the timing chain was replaced? Our Sky is very clean with 120k on the odometer. What are the symptoms to look for on the Kappa brothers?👌🏾💎😎

When I was doing my timing chains on my '07 G5 (2.4L VVT), the timing kit is slightly different, but they go together the same. When I was putting the timing chain back on, I put the chain on the intake sprocket, fished it down into the engine and then installed the sprocket. Once you have the chain on the sprocket, it CANNOT come off or fall into the front of motor. Putting on the exhaust side wasn't easy, but also not overly difficult. I'm kinda curious if you thought about swapping out the cams?

Thanks so much for the Knowledge. I noticed that Cloyes does not sell directly to the public. I noticed on the Solstice forum that Rock Auto is the go to for the parts. Is this where you purchase the parts to complete the Job?

6:45. Literally every 2.0 solstice engine I've seen has this breather nipple broken off. I don't know what the deal is with that, but I suspect I gets broken off while trying to get to the air filter. Terrible design and trying to find a replacement intake tube is nearly impossible.

I have a 2007 turbo solstice. Has only 35k miles. Makes a rattling noise on start up and idle. Thought it was coming from exhaust, but couldn’t find any loose parts. Do you think this could be the cause of the rattling? Thanks for the great video

While you have the turbo off I'd suggest a "BatMoWheel" and at least a high flow cat or test pipe. That, with a can tune from Trifecta will put you to around 340 horsepower 😁

What is the labor time for this timing chain/water pump job? What other items do you recommend replacing along with way so they don't fail? I will be paying a mechanic to do the job so just want to know what I'm looking at.

Not sure on labor time. Worked on the car off and on over the course of a few months waiting on parts and working on other projects. I’d recommend replacing everything I did in this video. Thanks for watching!

Soooo if my balance chain slipped doing a water pump job…. What steps will I need to do and what steps can I gloss over? Which parts won’t be needed for purchase if it’s only the balance chain? Can only the balance chain be done?

If you check the manifold bolts you'll find them loose just a little. Hit em with a torque wrench

I find it bizzare that the black links didn’t both go to the timing gears and the off color link didn’t go to the crank. Why would they make it that way?

I would not make the repair unless I heard the noise coming from the engine. Some cars don’t end up needing the repair.

We used existing. We cleaned them up and lubed them with Vaseline

Usually they go out around 80k miles.

That is an average however it can be anywhere 30-130 realistically. That being said, there is a forum as well full of very knowledgeable people. If you have to do this job, the resources are there to get it done right without prior mechanical knowledge.
