Smoke alarms are a life saving device. They don't need to be smart. Just buy a decent branded (fire angel, aico, ei) smoke alarm. There's a reason they haven't bothered making their devices smart. They focus on the actual purpose of them rather than turning them into toys.

It can save lives when not home, or when the owners aren't sure what room it is. The smart device let's you know where the fire is right away. (fire in kitchen!) A few seconds could make the difference from life or death. Being told your house is on fire when you are away could save your pets or belongings.

@@cjamesfox not sure about anywhere else in the world but In the UK if you called the fire brigade and said "my app says my house is ablaze but I'm on holiday" they'd laugh you off the phone. Frankly my house, and most British homes, aren't big enough to matter about where the fire is - you just leave. I have two rooms downstairs and 4 upstairs. It would take me 10 seconds to look around the place and know where the fire is, not reliant on technology, WiFi, zigbee etc.
