I never thought of "Curse of the Were-Rabbit" as being in the category of animated films based on TV series. While "Wallace and Gromit" DO have a couple of regular, though very short-lived TV series ("Cracking Contraptions" and "World of Invention"), the center of the franchise are the standalone short films.

I know this movie didn’t get a theatrical release, but Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension is S their. The show is about the boys A plot and Perry and Doofs B plot and no matter how much some episodes blur the line it’s always there to some extent. The movie removes that line and we finally see the boys learn about Agent P. Plus Candice realizes that the boys aren’t necessarily a problem to be busted, and that having a childhood as cool as there’s should be cherished and not taken away in a hurry to grow up.

One of the most fascinating things from working at a movie theater in 2019 was seeing the Downton Abbey movie consistently selling out each screening. It was to the point where we had to move it from our smallest auditorium, to our biggest non-IMAX one. After all the commotion, I figured I should check out the series and I wound up getting hooked.

The spongebob movie was my favorite movie for the longest time. It was only recently dethroned by everything everywhere all at once. I've always wanted to put out an essay about how the movie always connected with me as a neurodivergent person well into my adulthood because it covers the topic of infantalization really well. The message I get from the movie as a kid is about how being a kid rules. The message I get from the movie as an adult is that spongebob is a grown adult who isn't taken seriously and is treated like a kid just for being happy-go-lucky and having childish interest and the rest of the town is wrong for that. It sucks to be looked down on just because you don't correctly preform a shallow idea of maturity well enough but in the end spongebob proves everyone wrong.

Why does every adult-animated film have the same “political thriller parody with generic villain not seen in the show before” plot-line? Was Beavis and Butthead Do America *that* iconic? Do films like that even exist anymore, or were they bullied out of existence by the parody genre?

Please check out Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. It’s the first film as an adaptation from Batman: the Animated Series, also being the only one aired in theaters. It was the first theatrically released feature film by Warner Bros Animation. In my opinion, it’s not only one of the best animated superhero films, not only one of the best Batman films, but one of the best superhero films in general. (The other straight to video film “Batman and Mr. Freeze: Subzero” is also good). There are some other straight to DVD films as part of the DC Animated Universe, but I have not seen them so I personally can’t say much to their quality, but I have heard some good things from them as well. But back to the point, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is really good and you should check it out (it’s my favorite Batman film).

As well as how you kept things very basic and digestible with the subject matter. A benefit to have in an animated film based on a TV show is to be engaging enough for viewers who have little to no prior acquaintance with the source material, and not requiring one to watch episodes before jumping straight to the movie. From my experience, I cite "Beavis and Butt-Head Do America" and "The Wild Thornberrys Movie" as perfect examples, since I did not watch full episodes of either original series beforehand (maybe vague memories at best). Both movies were epic adventures that stand on their own while also establishing the basics of what a typical episode of their respective TV shows is like. As as more unconventional example, I got into "Hey Arnold!" solely thanks to watching its first movie on VHS, even though most fans consider "Hey Arnold! The Movie" to be mediocre at best (I still enjoy it highly, though).

A recent example of a movie based on a show (which was a manga first) is “Spy x Family Code: White.” It’s a fun standalone adventure that I think even the uninitiated will enjoy. It gives them a good idea on what the main operation is and who each of the characters are.

@@deshawnedwards6412 Well, whose fault is that? I would say it is Cartoon Network's fault for not spending more money on publicity and marketing, or it could be all of Time Warner's fault for slacking off on making and promoting potentially good animated films altogether after the 1990s. At least Nickelodeon did not give up that easily after The Rugrats Movie, and it really paid off when two of their Spongebob Squarepants movies performed well at the box office. Sadly, it still is rare for Warner Animation Group to make mainstream animated films like Storks, DC Super Pets and their two LEGO Movies + The LEGO Batman Movie. After Warner's merger with Discovery, it only now becomes more apparent that Warner would rather bury animation altogether and spend as little money and time as possible on it without going cold turkey.🥶

Though the first SpongeBob movie has a better story, I think that the second more encapsulates how the show is. The first thing I think of when I think of SpongeBob is stupid, absurdist humor, which the sequel has. The first Phineas & Ferb movie is peak fiction. I also really hate the Rugrats movie. It has a weird tone problem where it's more nonsensical, juvenile, and annoying than the series, but it also tries to have a more serious story with actual stakes.

Rugrats was a weird one. I really like the first two acts of the second Spongebob movie but when they make it to the surface it almost feels like it changes into a different movie. I liked seeing Spongebob and Plankton work together, but wasnt nearly as invested Spongebob working off his four friends. Patrick was too big of a dick for me in that one, even in the climax. I thought it worked better when the film acknowledged Plankton and Spongebob were the only two rational ones in this situation. Still as a whole I do like the sequel.

@@spinynorman06 I liked Sponge Out of Water (not really a sequel, more of a prequel to the first film) for not having the characters go on a road trip again except for that one-minute scene where they travel above water, giving other regular Spongebob Squarepants characters more to say and do in the storyline, and spending more time in the story with the characters animated in 2D instead of 3D when they traveled above water, because it would not make sense for the story to have the main characters travel above water earlier in the story before they start looking for Burger Beard. I liked watching the main Spongebob characters transform into superheroes because it reminds me of that other time when they became superheroes in Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V. The point of that storyline in which their superpowers backfired on them, was that they had to lose so Mermaid Man would have to surrender to Barnacle Man, formerly known as Barnacle Boy, and learn to respect him as an equal superhero instead of a sidekick. Since that other personal conflict is not at play here, Spongebob's gang gets to do more with their superpowers besides injuring each other, to work as a team to get the secret Krabby Patty formula back from Burger Beard, and burn the cursed magic book he used to give himself the formula. So Im not too sure if these would count admittedly, but there were quite a number of films in the 80s based off popular properties at the time, and sometimes even now 1. My Little Pony The Movie (1986): cant actually remember the plot for this film, but it was an actual thing snd was released a few months before the next film im gonna mention, which is probably one of the more famous 80s Cartoon films based off a toyline 2. The Transformers The Movie (1986): basically the film that introduced many a new character to Transformers whilst killing off, brutally too sometimes, some of the classic G1 Season 1 and 2 cast, namely Optimus Prime (which fun fact actually caused a good bunch of kids leaving the theater in tears after Prime's death and their parents wrote letters to both Hasbro (who brought him back as a zombie only to kill him, again, only to bring him back permantly towards the end of the 3rd Season) and Peter Cullen (who at the time never knew how popular Optimus really was at the time), oh and the Autobots have to stop a new menace named Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles) from destroying Cybertron 3. G.I. Joe The Movie (1987): basically one of the most 80s American film to exist, which features the Joes trying to stop Cobra from taking over the world, and also due to the backlash from Prime's death had Duke go into a coma instead of him dying, and the plot is quite literally just that, the Joes just try to stop Cobra from taking over 4. My Little Pony Equestria Girls (2013): So, after the events of Friendship is Magic's 3rd Season, where one of the main characters (Twilight Sparkle) becomes a princess (she is originally a Unicron then magically gets wings becoming an alicorn), a new character who becomes *very* popular amongst the fandom, named Sunset Shimmer steals Twilight's Crown and goes into the human world where she has to win the crown (after dropping it earlier) in a Fall Formal dance contest thing, and now Twilight has to stop her while helping her friends's human couterparts become friends again, becomes a bit of a mini franchise too 5. Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Predacons Rising (2013): the finale to the ever popular Transformers Prime cartoon involves, well, exactly what the title says, where this universe's version of Unicron possess Megatron, as Ol Buckethead way earlier, like in the first 5 episodes of the series, infects himself with a piece of Unicron's Blood (known as Dark Energon), to raise an army of the Undead (yes, Dark Energon in this cartoon creates Transformer zombies) to destroy Cybertron and its up to the Autobots to stop them 6. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks (2014): Basically, new girls show up who were originally from the Magic Horse Land Home of Twilight and Previous Film's Villain Sunset Shimmer to get thier magic powered up to make people love them, and its up to Twilight and her friends (alongside a reformed Sunset who has to deal with the reprucussions of the last film) to stop them 7. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Friendship Games (2015): So, you know the compliant of the Bay Transformers films where people say its the same thing? Yeah, thats kinda my complaint about Friendship Games, similar-ish plot to the first Equestria Girls movie, minus the stuff from Twilight and Sunset's home of Equestria, except theres a rival school (yeah forgot to mention that the Equestria Girls series setting is a high school, i apologize) who always win the Friendship Games contest, and the Twilight of the human world has been accidently sucking up the Magical energies of the Human World (a plot point that kinda sorta is a thing in the next and final Equestria Girls film and the series as a whole) and its up to Sunset and her friends to stop her from taking all the magic 8. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Camp Everfree (2016): so, i may or may not have gotten some of the year releases wrong, but this time Sunset and her friends (and included a newly reformed Twilight from Friendship Games, who is also mostly known as Sci-Twi in order to differentiate the two Twilights) go to camp where they stumble upon more Equestrian Magic, this time used by the Camp Director who is trying to save her camp from being bought out 9. My Little Pony The Movie (2017): So, this movie takes place mostly in the Pony World, where after an attack from the villain (aka the Storm King), Princess Twilight and her friends try to save thier home and friends 10. My Little Pony A New Generation (2020): Basically what the title here says, a new Generation of ponies try to bring magic back to Equestria (after having generations of the ponies not being friends together), led to the current (at the time of this comment, i might add) generation of My Little Pony Now for a few other films that you may or may not like 11. Turtles Forever (2009): a movie set in the 2003 4Kids Universe of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to which it also serves as the finale, this seems the Y3K Turtles team up with thier 87 Cartoon and 84 Comic Book counterparts to try and stop the Y3K Shredder from destroying all of Turtle Kind 12. Voltron Fleet of Doom (1987): a film that sees the Lion Force and Vehicle Voltrons (GoLion and DaiRugger XV in Japan) team up to stop evil 13. Ultraman Rising (2024): So, Ultraman is a tokusatsu franchise created in 1966 by Eiji Tsubuyra and has had many series and movies, and this movie on Netflix is no exception. It has the titular Ultraman (Ken Sato) try to raise a baby kaiju while trying to become a Japanese baseball superstar 14., 15., 16. Godzilla Anime Trilogy (forgot the years for this trilogy, but its on Netflix and was released in the 2010s): Godzilla is fairly similar to Ultraman (and Tsubuyra was the SFX Director behind some of the OG Godzilla films btw), and this trilogy are just 3 of Godzilla's legacy. Takes place in the far future and has Godzilla fighting humans and other kaiju 17.-???. Pokemon Animated Movies (1997-): and now these, theres a ton, and i dont know exactly how many there, but they feature the character from the Anime, Ash Ketchum/Sataoshi, continuing his Pokemon journey while encoutering more dangerous foes, and one point had a trilogy of films that took place in a rebooted universe

Just found your channel! Always love talking about Tv Show movies with people. It can be hard to make them well, and animated shows can mostly do it the best. As you said, spectacle and tone are a big part of it. A lot of animated shows have to reset everything by the end of the 23-30 min runtime, and it doesn't give credit to episodes that could be greater. Glad to hear you say such good things about Bob's Burgers, one of my favorite Adult Animation shows. Still mostly holds up. And I cannot stress enough how much I love the SpongeBob movie. 24 years old and still have it memorized word by word🤣🤣Lastly(sorry for the rant) Maybe check out Teen Titans Go To The Movie. Im not a fan of teh show, but the movie is actaullty enjoyable. I'd say its actually around the time the show was atleast funny. While its not Teen Titans, it did what it was trying to to do for so long....Be funny. Anyways make a part 2 :)))!!!

18:18 thank you, thank you, I see so many people say streaming wars is hilarious but I think it’s some of the worst stuff the series has put out (especially part 2) the trailers were basically false advertisement, the interesting story they presented was immediately dropped to give an 8 year old… those things, and the actual story about the stream of water was so boring and they tried to keep it afloat with repetitive grossout humour, which is so weird that this even happened, after cartoon wars and how cartman said he was better than family guy you wouldn’t really think we’d get stupid jokes like this
@spinynorman06

Agreed 100%. It was especially disappointing as a follow up to the Pandemic episodes which I thought was some of the best material we got from the show in years. Streaming Wars had a few laughs, but my biggest issue is I found it very boring.

If you’re gonna cover live action TV show adaptations, might I suggest a certain genre of movies that adapt an old TV show from decades ago and giving them a new cast. From what I’ve seen, like Starsky & Hutch and the Jump Street movies, they’re mostly pretty good, though the genre itself isn’t perfect (cough Wild Wild West cough).

@@spinynorman06 ok here’s my pitch: The film starts off with the heelers waking up and starting the day with bandit announcing that he, chilli, uncle stripe, aunt trixie, uncle rad, aunt frisky, nana, and grandpa bob all managed to reserve hotel rooms for the vacation spot the Heeler bros use to go back in the 80s and they’ll be going in two weeks. Bluey and Bingo are excited and also get ready for a play date with the cousins. When they arrive, bluey has everyone play the magic xylophone game. The usual chaos of the heeler family happens as normal until bluey almost trips down the stairs but bandit quickly stops being frozen and saves bluey only for him to trip and tumble down the stairs knocking him unconscious. The family stops and chilli quickly calls the hospital. Bluey is shocked by what happened and is overwhelmed by guilt. The family assure bluey that what happened was an accident and bandit did it to save her. The doctor informs them that bandit will recover but there might be some side effects when he wakes up. At school blueys friends attempt to cheer her up once they hear about what happened and calypso comforts bluey assuring her what happened wasn’t her fault, and bandit wouldn’t want her to feel that way. After a few days, the doctors inform the family that bandit has woken up but has amnesia and doesn’t remember everything. When chilli and the girls step in to meet him, bandit is amazed by chillis beauty, and bluey and bingos cuteness. He apologizes for not being able to remember but chilli assures him they’ll help him recover his memory. Bandit doesn’t remember stripe and radley either, but when stripe explains to him that they’re brothers who like to tease each other, he immediately apologizes to the two if he was a bad brother. Stripe and rad forgive him saying there’s more important stuff going on right now. When he meets Chris and Bob he assumes there his mom and dad but still with no official memories of them. Bluey frantically apologizes to bandit for what happened but he immediately forgives her, apologizing himself if he scared anyone. Chilli tells him the family will do their part to help bandit recover. At home for the next few days, the family tells them about all the memories they made in the house from the games they played and lessons they learned. Pat and Wendy try to help bandit regain his memories but he ends up unintentionally insulting Wendy when he says she’s overcompensating and needs to take beauty lessons form chilli. Chilli is embarrassed but flattered by that comment while wendy, though insulted, accepts the comment out of respect for bandits' love and loyalty to chilli, despite the memory loss. Bluey and bingo play a few games to see if it can help bandits memory. Bandit has trouble learning the games they usually play, such as keepy uppy, daddy robot, hospital, bus driver, and restaurant, and the family does their part to guide him in learning the games. He begins remembering only bits and pieces but not enough to fully gain true memories. Chilli says the fact he is starting to remember is a sign of progress and it will take some time for every memory to come back. Later that night, bandit sees bluey and bingo upset. When he goes to check on them, the two tell him that when playing some of the games and talking about them, they realize some of the games involved him getting hurt of embarrassing him. They apologize saying it wasn’t their intention to do so. Bandit comforts them saying he’s positive they didn’t mean to and it was his choice to do so because he values their happiness and assures them they did nothing wrong and he would do all of them all over again. The girls feel better by this and bandit offers to read them a story saying “I may have lost my memory but I can still read.” He ends up playing the game where he reads them a story but pretends to fall asleep, cheering the girls up. When he meets with chilli in the living room, he tells her about his worries saying he wants to be the husband and father they once knew him as but the amnesia is preventing him from fully doing so. Chilli comforts him saying his memories will come back someday. They just need to be patient. Bandit then apologizes for any mistakes he’s made during their life. Chilli assures him that while she did get annoyed or mad at some of his mistakes, it’s not a big deal in the long run and admits to mistakes she made in the past as well that annoyed him or made him mad, but at the end of the day, that’s just life and says it would be boring and not feel right if they didn’t make any mistakes because they help appreciate all the good things about each other even more and even help better themselves when they recognize it. Bandit then regains some more memories about him and chilli and remembers a song they first danced to. They put it on and dance for a few minutes before heading to bed. Two days later, the family is ready for the vacation with rad and stripe believing that bringing him to the vacation spot they visited from the 80s can help him get his memories back. When they get there, rad and stripe show bandit all the cool hangout spots they use to go to with the former two surprised that everything is still as it is and bluey and bingo being amazed by the looks of stuff from the 80s. Bandit regains more of his memories this time about his parents and brothers and once again apologizes for being a bad brother to them. Rad and stripe once again forgive him saying they’re brothers it’s what they do. The family ends up having an amazing time doing many activities and showing bluey and bingo how things worked back then. The next morning, bandit wakes up feeling something is calling to him. Chilli and the girls wake up to see this and quietly follow him to where he’s going. He stops at the spot near the shower block. As chilli checks up on him, bandit remembers it’s the spot he and chilli first met when she broke the jinx. This causes a flood of memories to start coming back to him and regaining his full memory. Chilli and the girls hug him with tears of joy in their eyes and chilli gives bandit the biggest kiss she can give him. They soon inform the rest of the family who are elated with joy that bandit is back to normal and though chilli still doesn’t remember first meeting bandit on that spot when they were kids, she now believes it. They spend the rest of the holiday celebrating bandit regaining his memory and frisky announcing that she’s pregnant. When the heelers get home, bandit apologizes for making them go through all that happened. They all forgive him saying they couldn’t see any other way to save bluey since it happened so suddenly and are just happy everything is ok now. Bluey and bingo then ask their parents how they are so motivated to go through their games even if it might involve them getting hurt or embarrassed, and chilli decides now is the time to tell them the story about her miscarriage and what the couple went through during that time. They tell them that when they would have their own children (that being bluey and bingo), they would do their best to be the best parents they could be for them no matter what. Bluey and bingo are moved by this speech and start crying in a mixture of sadness and happiness thankful for the parents they have. This moment strengthens the family’s love for each other. We then see a montage of things going back to normal with the family playing games again creating many happy memories. In this montage, we see bluey and bingo eventually grow up and though not actively playing games with their parents like they use to, they still come to them for advice, support, or just spend time with them. Eventually, bluey ends up marrying Mackenzie and bingo marrying Lila with bandit and chilli both giving them their blessings and happily accepting Mackenzie and Lila as part of the family. We see bingo and Lila adopt a child and bluey having one of her own. The scene then shows where the episode surprise left off where bandit is chased by blueys child. At first fearful, ends up laughing and having fun like all those years ago. The rest of the family notices and laughs along with bandit. The family then all has dinner sharing stories and enjoying each others company. Bandit and chilli sit next to each other happy to be in each others company and living the life they’re living now. They kiss again and continue to talk with each other and the family as the scene pans out from the Heeler house as the sunsets in the background. The movie ends and the credits roll.

I disagree about Bob's Burgers. Golden Age Bob's Burgers is season 1-11. Season 12 was awful ( so many bad episodes back to back) and in subsequent seasons it got hit and miss. Part of what's funny about Bob's Burgers is the situations start out normal then in act 2 or 3 things get insane. One of my favorite episodes is House of a Thousand Bounces. It starts out as a normal trip to Rudy's birthday. The moon bounce company didn't send a second moon bounce because they thought it was a duplicate order when 2 parties were next to each other. That leads to The Belcher Kids stealing the moon bounce, pushing it into the water, and being chased by the rich kids in canoes. In more resent episodes the plots are often uneventful and lack that classic Bob's Burgers escalation. When went from exciting plot lines like Bob gets locked in a camping supply store and has to rock climb his way out to bland plot lines with not much going on like Gene pays for a bad VR game. It feels like they are running out of ideas but they still make new ones that are really good sometimes.
