@banpotandblm , Really?! AI and automation will replace your Walmart Greeter Hillbilly ass in nothing flat. Then you'll scream at the top of your lungs. AI is going to impact every sector of the economy, and the Ultra-Rich overlords will love it because it can reduce the need for humans to do the jobs. It isn't Skynet, but it can, and eventually will, replace of lot of people in jobs. Then you'll be the first to cry for more "Socialist" type of involvement from the government.

How is it that the writers of hit shows don’t enjoy the same financial success, or a large enough percentage to make them happier than they are now? Is it not a partnership in conjunction with the talent there is success? I mean someone might really appreciate a particular talent who is popular, but is it not in large part due to talented writers that bring about the popularity? I believe it is because of talented writer’s that success is possible to all! They are the unsung heroes. How can it be okay with the industry as a whole to essentially make it impossible for writers to make the kind of living that doesn’t make searching for other work necessary? It’s an illusion that the success is due entirely to the talent or the company associated with creating the environment for success to materialize. Show more appreciation industry, and pay those who share in the final product, accordingly! They deserve a percentage of success as well! Pay them what they’re worth in all the areas that will culminate in success so we can enjoy our favourite shows again. Actors bring the words to life but the words come from writers! It’s a relationship that is symbiotic! It’s important! It’s necessary and long overdue! Enough already

Did you ever hear these writers and actors, who all have the SAME social message, repeatedly declare "This show isn't made for YOU"? People believed them, after decades of being hit over the head enough with shows about how they're bad and how Intersectional Neo-Marxism is great. They saw the results in reality, clearly garbage, and they just accepted that the media is no longer made for them. There are thousands of actors capable of most parts, though some few bring a story to life under competent direction. It seems to me that ALL the people working to create a movie are quoth that praise their movie inspires. But, without someone having written the words - what do the rest do?

if everybody was on universal basic income, i think most would celebrate ai relieving us from jobs, instead of fearing it. ubi would change the motivation to work; more people would find the work they love, and robots would do the jobs nobody likes. especially if it was combined with free education being extended through college years. the economy would probably benefit, and i believe society in general would benefit, from people who were more engaged in a positive way with professions they enjoy, instead of working out of desperation and trauma

Welfare for all? ....🤔
@farmaccount1653
@farmaccount1653 10 ай бұрын
It's not welfare. UBI is more complex than that. In brief (and probably missing loads out...) Everyone would be entitled to a sum of money. (Higher than any welfare at current rates). Enough to pay for all essential living requirements. There would be enough for a few 'luxury type' things too. If people still want to work. Depending on how much they earn, the UBI payment would reduce ... not like current index linked arrangements. A worker would be better off doing so. The benefit system (welfare system would be scrapped - saving millions of *insert currency of your country* The money would be raised through corporation taxes and other industry taxes. If businesses want to be totally automated, that's fine, but, they pay into the UBI system for the privilege. Ultimately the goal is to have a population that have choices, time (for education, hobbies, work, fun.. yadda yadda yadda...). Stress related illnesses should drop. I know I've missed loads out... Yes it's an ideal dream..... could it work?... On paper yes. Can it work?... On paper yes... Will people be happy?.. most will... greedy, self centred people won't.. It's not a bad idea.... this has been studied and pothesised for nearly a hundred years. Google some of the studies.

Actors and writers do not get paid that much after its all said and done, unless they work on a huge project (think the Marvel films, for example). I learned alot when I took my son the LA for auditions/casting calls from 2012-2014 (we lived in Phoenix at the time). My friend and her son had been out there living & working in LA for about 3 years by that point. Unless her son landed a role on a popular television series (think NCIS, Criminal Minds, Chicago Fire... which her son starred in), there was no money to be made. After all the SAG-AFRA fees, Coogan Account (which takes 15% of earnings) and taxes (city, state & federal) plus cost of rent for an apartment in LA and gas money for driving to all the auditions/workshops/etc... there was barely enough to put into personal savings. I met a couple of writers while out in LA and its a very similar story. Only the truly 'famous' or 'well-known' actors (& writers) are able to make a prosperous living. To reiterate, I never knew any of this until I took my son out to LA and talked with other people involved in the industry. It definitely is not a place to make any kind of money unless you make it 'big'.
@k8tina
@k8tina 10 ай бұрын
As an aside, my son ended up getting part-time acting work in Phoenix (commercials, mostly; one movie where he played Nia Vardalos's son in 2 small scenes) and even then, it wasn't a lot of money as outsiders would think. But we saved his earnings and years later, he's able to pay for his college education through graduate school (if he so chooses). As for my friend's son, he quit acting at 19 and pursued a different career, still living in LA though.

So are we supposed to be sorry that writing 8 episodes for a show isn't full time employment for you? Are you owed full time employment in an industry based around gig work? You aren't working for an energy company. This industry isn't a constant. If there isn't enough work for you after you've completed 1 show then that probably means there are too many writers competing for the amount of shows being made. It's supply and demand but the studios aren't required to create more shows just so you can have a job. This guy also admits to not wanting to take paying work simply because it's not the best show for his career. New flash, everyone has to work on stuff they don't like. You can't go on strike because you don't like the work you're offered and then complain that you can't pay the bills because you didn't want to take the job. It's outrageous that nobody is talking about how their desire for more money and to be owed a living at the expense of everyone else's career who isn't striking for these reasons is justified. There are many more people making less than him who have the opportunity to work right now but their work has been taken away from them because people like this want more.

But they’ve been saying that for centuries now. “The end of the world is nigh”. Maybe it wouldn’t be the case if Christians actually done something to stop it. Actually loved thy neighbor, helped with environmental issues, stopped feeding the military and killing people in other countries. Maybe the world would be in a better place.

So they can get back to work for the entertainment industry that sucks and produces nothing but bad propaganda? That's not going to happen. Enough people are sick of Hollywood's preachy flicks, all with the same social messaging, that it's not entertainment any more. It's just paying to be lectured on how bad you are. The Woke will pay for that, most people will not, including other Union workers who hate the shit out of an elite union. Where do they even get off claiming to represent us? We know for a fact they fuckin' don't, since many strikes in 2022 went unnoticed or were shuttered. "All for the good of the national economy", they said, as more and more of us had to sacrifice our wages and working hours on the altar of "Progressivism". But when it's THEIR industry, oh, now it's HUGE news on outlets nobody trusts. These people destroy work, they don't create it, and no, I'm not buying a ticket or paying a fee to watch propaganda. The government charges me enough for that, thank you.
