Why do people lose their absolute shit in apocalypse films & movies and create cults or get quirky AF or decide to kill everything? I'm looking at you Walking Dead, Y: The Last Man and Revolution and this...

Can't speak for the show yet, but the book engages with that question quite a bit. The suggestion (imho) is that people really struggle to come to terms with the idea a disaster on such a scale can happen for no reason at all, so they're vulnerable to narratives that seem to offer one.

because it seems like the logic thing to do, its an apocalypse so its normal, people can act all happy, holding hands singing kumbaya around a fire thats just weird... so rather kill everything including themselves and fireflies...
