Start-up in the 'style' of Television South circa 1987 Since the start-up music only lasted for one minute, I have made two videos for the south-east and then the south of England. The IBA caption slide was not shown at this time.

Hi Jane. Yes, I miss the regionality of ITV too. Each TV company had their own personality, shown in their programmes, start-ups and continuity. I'm glad that you enjoyed this start-up in the style of TVS and I greatly enjoyed putting it together. All the best, Nigel.

Fantastic curation and compilation, again. Loving your work! One subtle feature of the original 1987 TVS startups that you might have missed was that they almost all involve rotation, and I think the idea was to link into the spinning animation of the new 1987 logo itself - though in the end the nature of the turns they achieved was too different in each clip they managed to shoot, for it really to work. Watching these, I wondered whether one could program a drone to make a distinct turning movement and then use it over and over filming different locations, which would then all fit together into one unified sequence, with the logo itself spinning along at the beginning and end. But maybe that's too complex to really work with all these different kinds of views...

Hi. Many thanks for your kind comments regarding the video. I did consider rotating the images, but decided against it for now, as I rathet like a clean cut between each clip and it's a little less risky on timing. If I redo the video in the future, I'll definitely look into this further. Best wishes, Nigel.

@@nigelcash5284 Ah, no, sorry for the confusing phrasing. What I meant was that in each clip the camera is moving and turning around some point in the picture. So it's from the actual content of the films in the original version that you get a sense of constant rotation, not that the clips are rotated when they cut from one to the next. Clean cuts like you have are definitely the right way to go in a startup film like this. :)

@@MQsCues Yes I think you mean the photography itself is generally shot as though panning around a focal point, rather than being from a static viewpoint.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. No announcement here as TVS did not make one during this start-up process. Nigel.

Hi Bruce. You're very welcome for both TVS and TSW. Perhaps you live in a part of the country that could get both ITV companies. Best wishes, Nigel.

@@nigelcash5284 Hello Nigel-thank you for that of course. Actually I live in the ITV London area-formerly Thames, then Carlton and LWT of old now I guess. I may have gone away to those areas but I am not too sure for now when they were on anyway. But both your films are very nice and well done to you too all round.

And of course too both were in the south of Britain/England/UK at the time too when they were on ITV.

Honestly, this feels too short, but it is a theme. Let’s just call it the TVS Theme Song.

Startups were largely a thing of the past by 1986-87. So, since it was so short, I did two short movies for both of the TVS areas

@@nigelcash5284 That could explain why by the 90’s it was almost to 24 hour television.

It was literally the TVS start-up theme in September 1987.
