I preferred Westward's intro music - this seems like a strange fusion of game show and light jazz which doesn't quite "feel" right - but each to their own :)

The Drone footage is nice, although I think that the City of York, Whitby, Flamborough and Bridlington would be served by Yorkshire Television's transmitters than Tyne Tees although the catchment areas do overlap, which is because we are such a tiny country. I think Tyne Tees main transmitters were: Bilsdale, Burnhope now Chatton, and Pontop Pike, the most memorable TT TV ident was the the one from the 70s and early 80's [ the one with the the 3rd dimension ]. Super Gran, Chain Letters, The Tube and the adaptations of Catherine Cookson's novels.

I wonder if it's coincidental that Grampian and Granada appear to have used the same font. It's even more noticeable with the colour, the fact they both start "GRA" and share four letters.

I like the pseudo stereo enhancement of the music pieces. I've stereo widened this mock start up and converted it into a 6 channel surround sound WMA file using Adobe Audition 3 which I found on the internet, and converted it online to a Dolby Digital AC-3 5.1 Surround Sound file and it sounds incredible.

Hi. Most of the relay stations were placed in South Wales in the valleys as Wenvoe (main trans) couldn't quite 'peek' around the corners. This listing is from 1978, so there are many more transmitters in service now all over Wales. All the best, Nigel.

@nigelcash52843 ай бұрын
Hi Andy. Richard Addinsell wrote this most wonderful composition. You can certainly hear the ocean, landscapes and hornpipe; very regional. However, the IBA decided that Southern wasn't the best company to lead the region through the 80s and that TVS had the better plans. I think that TVS did a wonderful job. Had it not been for the 1990s franchise auction, I think that TVS would have survived comfortably. Best wished, Nigel.

"On December 28th, 1980, Lady Plowden, the outgoing chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority, announced a major change of direction for television in the South of England. An 8-year licence to broadcast was granted to TVS, a new company to replace Southern Television, which had been responsible for commercial television in the South of England since 1957. So here we are, a brand new company. And we had just 1 year and 3 days to recruit staff, to buy and build studios and equipment ready to start broadcasting today." - Khalid Aziz, TVS 1982
@nigelcash52846 ай бұрын
Hi MrSean64. 'Bring in the New', I remember their first aired programme well as I could get a decent signal from the Bluebell Hill transmitter at the time. Southern were extremely bitter towards TVS after losing their franchise, but the new company did a great job. Unfortunately, they became a little too ambitious to grow the company which made it financially unstable and their 1991 franchise bid was judged too high by the IBA to be sustainable ovet 10 years. All the best, Nigel.

One part of Ripon North Yorkshire didn't get Yorkshire Television at all, it got Tyne Tees Television, around the Palace Road area.
@stuartbeachamАй бұрын
I'm looking at transmitter coverage maps in some 1970s ITV yearbooks and it looks like what you're saying is true. I also see that no part of Harrogate could receive YTV's signal even though it's further south than Ripon and therefore closer to the Emley Moor transmitter. That's the UHF signal; the VHF signal is a different story.

Hi. I'm glad that you liked the video, there is still a much longer version of this theme used to open the channel. I will do a video when i have done a lot more research. The Panopticon - Singing-Ringing tree was a sculpture that had to be included. I did not make enough of the south of the region even though Chester was included. I think that most ITV companies did not film videos as it might have been expensive and they might alsi need to be updated quite regularly. Of course, until 1982, Granada transmitted to the southetn Lake District, which I included here. All the best. Nigel.

Stand by, 8 minutes 57 to the Thatcherite Breakfast Show.....(especially under Gyngell!)
@nigelcash52847 ай бұрын
Hi. I gather that you are not a Bruce Gyngell fan. The rebrand of YTV/TTTV was inexplicable especially for Tyne Tees viewers who 'hated' it. Thatcher's bill leading to the 1991 franchise round was a disaster for ITV in general. TV-am lost its franchise for which Thatcher wrote a personal apology to Gyngell. The whole thing was a mess with many great ITV companies losing out in a bizarre bidding 'war'. Even HTV, TTTV and YTV were almost lost due to the ITC considering failing them on their business plans. Others were either unopposed or underbid their rivals, winning on quality. Get me the smelling salts. Such is life. All the best, Nigel.
@Sheffield_Steve7 ай бұрын
@@nigelcash5284 To be honest it was pretty much Thatcherite by the time the famous five had been ousted out and a Mr Aitkin was temporarily brought in, until he realised you're not supposed to that if you're a sitting MP (I'm surprised he did what he was supposed to). Not much of a Gyngell fan, he ruined YTV too and for the unlucky TTTV who had to take on the full C3 rebrand, it was dreadful.
