Wish I could live in Charleston. Never been to WV. But it looks awesome! I would live above Washington street out of FEMA flood zone.

As a teen I use to sit on those steps with friends and talke while watching the river and the college across the river.

I grew up in Greenbrier County, one of the hardest hit areas, and I lived a few blocks from the Capitol Complex for a couple years, as well. This flood makes the floods in '85 pale by comparison. I was a student @ Marshall in '85, and when I returned home for Thanksgiving a few weeks later, we took a trip to the area around the Greenbrier River, only a few miles from my home. On rail tracks a couple hundred yards from the river, there were hundreds of dead fish lining the rails. I can only imagine and marvel at the devastation this storm has brought to the home I knew.

I'm in Florida now, but I grew up in Charleston, and I've been wanting to see some footage of the river. My sister sent this to me. I don't remember *EVER* seeing it this high, and that current in the channel is really moving!

Glad you found the video. Yea that current is rally moving!

Good documentary! I would guess that the Kanawha at State Capitol is close to navigable for small ships New Orleans bound and has a deep channel. I bet Alloy and Montgomery got slammed just upstream near Gauley Bridge. Thanks for your local perspective and Godspeed to the hard-working, salt-of-the-earth good folks of West Virginia! All of America is pulling for you!

The previous high I had seen the water on 35th st bridge was 55. So it is a full 10ft higher than it was then. That is the height above the water of the bridge. So the higher the water the lower the number it reaches.

I'm og from the northern pt of the state, but I've been down that way before. I have people in WV, still don't know if they made it thru w/o injury/property damage. Never seen the water that high, must be crisis conditions for those living along tributaries & creeks. As w/u, all I could find (I'm in CA) were short little newsclips out here, so thanx for posting this.

Nice houses btw. There needs to be several drainage Pipes that go into a gorge, which They will have to build. Convert Daniel Boone park into a 20 foot Deep gorge.

It was about this high when they evacuated South Charleston down the river in 1961. They told me I was evacuated with my Mom getting away.

More were killed in 1969 thats not 100 years
@FixingWithPassion8 жыл бұрын
No. Wrong. 153 people were killed in 1969 in VA during hurricane Camille as it grazed Shenandoah Valley and W.V. So this makes it the worst flooding locally in 100 years in respect to damage and deaths locally.
