PLEASE NOTE: We know that "Lloyd Vehicle Consulting" is spelled wrongly in the title sequence. It's supposed to be a joke as this is not a normal review....
In this review, suitably attired, we test a 2008 Peugeot 207 1.4 Sport. Be prepared for more in-jokes for fans of a certain iconic 1960s ABC Television series, references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal Look Around You programme, a boot full of sand, electric window switches held on with cable ties, current political jokes (never a good idea), a black and white discussion about speed limits and a terrible attempt to do a cod French accent despite actually holding a degree in the language! Nothing untoward, then...
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

Oh dear. My Next door neighbour has owned a 2011 Peugeot 207 for 10 years now and never seems to have any trouble with it. It takes him to work and does the school run and whatever else is required without incident. He seems very happy with it Sir. The paint on his 207 is particularly good for 12 years old.

Sir, we don't talk about the Prince engine on this channel, and that is for good reason. This one recently died after the head gasket failed, and the owner has a new car now, which will be coming up on the channel over the weekend.

Interestingly, the "sand in the boot" was a premium feature costing 500 GBP extra when the car first launched. Glad to see Amanda has kept this in place, despite there being no brakes.

Well, there are brakes, sir, they just are bit on the vague side! Amanda has now taken it in for a service, I believe. Oh yes, the sand in the boot preserves the residual value of the car, I think it's why it was there!

My mum has had two 207's. The first was a 56 plate 1.6 sport 3 door in a lovely blue colour, the second a 1.4 5 door in silver - which is no way near as nice. I must say I can't agree with you on quality. I thought they were really good. I would actually say the interior feels and looks higher quality and more premium than a fiesta or Corsa of the same age. Seating, leather steering wheel and dash materials are just far nicer than a 2006/7/8 Fiesta. There must be something wrong with the brakes on your friends car as I have found them very good - better than my girlfriend's mg3

Thanks ever so much indeed! Yes, the car needed a good service, and it is possible there was an issue with the brakes. Amanda, who lent the car to us, had had two Peugeots before this, and she commented that this was definitely not as good as the other two (a 306 and a 307 SW). I have driven another 207 with just 16,000 miles on the clock, and it didn't have cable ties holding on the window switches, but it just wasn't as engaging to drive as older Peugeot models I have experienced. I have sourced a 2008 Fiesta for a client (the older model which you mention), and I didn't find the build quality worse or better than a 207 (this one probably is a bit neglected. My wife's MG3 has done 60,000 miles now, and the brakes are still fine, and are about to be replaced due to wear and tear. I see a number of these cars around, and I am sure that your mother must like hers as she is on her second one, but my experience of the two I have driven has not been a positive one, sadly...

Well sir, it is good that you can find lots of positives about the 207, as we did struggle a bit when I reviewed this one. Didn't help that Amanda's one had not been serviced in a long time, of course!
@David_H-73

A bit of a low point for peugeot then. I think a general lack of maintenance on this example didn't help. I looked at an SE Premium at a car supermarket years ago, when I couldn't sit behind myself I stopped looking. Although I did think it was a attractive car at the time.
@lloydvehicleconsulting

Yes, surprisingly cramped in the back, not that special to drive and very prone to feeling dated and running poorly with neglected maintenance in particular. It is still going, Amanda's son has it at the moment, I believe.

Correct this car looks to not have been looked after properly and sounds like it’s never been serviced it’s lack of ownership caused it I honestly think if you had seen one like mine the facelift version 2010 your opinion would be changed as they are actually good cars and to be honest who does. Review on a higher Mileage looked to be lived in vehicle and especially after it’s been out for years anyway cars will start to degrade if the owner no disrespect doesn’t give a shit about it by the look of the boot how dirty with sand mine looks like it’s just drove out the show room you could put 70 plate on mine and people would believe it is it’s been looked after like new

@@Thisistrulyoddtv_Mark , the 2014 MG3 we had in 2019 had higher mileage than this. I have seen the facelifted cars, and they do look slightly better, but in comparison with the 208 I filmed today, the difference between the 207 and its successor is absolutely crazy. Amanda did get the car serviced soon afterwards as the car was actually dangerous when it almost stalled at a busy junction and we just about managed not to get hit.

The lack of brakes could be the fact they look like they need replacing on this car that’s why if had new disks will be fine I have a 2010 automatic 5 door 207 and it’s perfect and brakes are really good and the interior is the best I’ve seen around and actually they are expensive on the second hand market they are between £3,000 and £5,000 and you cannot compare a 207 to a corsa and mine also has Bluetooth most new Ford like 11 plate and 12 plates don’t even have Bluetooth or the technology the Peugeot 207 had two years before them and if the spare wheel isn’t under the cover then it’s not got one as it’s in the actual boot under the compartment you lifted up

I have driven two 207s and both were disappointing. The Prince engines are notoriously unreliable, the interior in this one was cramped in the back and starting to fall apart as evidenced by the cable tie on the electric window switch. Sure, it had not been serviced in a while, and it is still going now that a bit of money has been spent on it. I grant you, that will have improved the brakes and the performance. You certainly can compare this against a Corsa and all the others I mentioned, they were all sold together in the same class at the same time. All the things you mention are very much specification dependent. I source cars for people on a professional basis and have now reviewed almost 100 cars on the channel. I have heard that some people get on really well with their 207s, but I am afraid that I can't recommend these to my clients. I am sure that yours is excellent, though, it just hasn't been my experience at all with them.

Lloyd Vehicle Consulting also mine has a German engine same one used in the bmw mini and is chain drive and yeah sold at same time as other vehicles you mentioned but the Peugeot 207 most models where selling for £15,000 corsa sell for around £9,000 and mine model 207 cost £20,000 when new as is automatic so that’s why I say about not comparing them as that’s like saying go to McDonald’s and expecting a steak restaurant meal at mine meat prices corsa cost less

Yes, that's the Prince engine. They are notoriously unreliable. My friend Matt has a BMW channel called Mattsbeamer and so he's not prejudiced against their products at all. Even so, he has a video talking about all the problems with the PSA/BMW Prince engine. He has one in his 1-Series, it's very similar to the one in your car, but set up for rear wheel drive.

The TU engines were better than the Prince engines, albeit not without issues, but, as you say, the 206s used to have quite a lot of other things which used to go wrong first, although people absolutely loved them. The Prince engines are not things we discuss round here....

Yes, that's what my grandfather's cousin, who lived in Normandy, where he was from, most of his life, used to do with his cars, mostly old Renault Clios. This 207 was not a good car, and we had a lot of fun, with the owner's permission, finding as much wrong with it as we could. We almost got killed coming out of a junction when it almost stalled on us, which was a special memory, and after 11 years and 56,000 miles, this one felt very near retirement indeed. Hope you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
