Tweetsie Railroad: 2023 ET&WNC Historical Society Convention

Over Memorial Day Weekend 2023, the ET&WNC Railroad Historical Society held their annual convention in Johnson City, Tennessee. One of the highlights every year is a private photo special and dinner at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC. This year's train consisted of ex-ET&WNC 12 pulling ex-EBT coach 5 and three of Tweetsie's open-air excursion cars. The weather over the weekend was bit of a downer, and it got so wet on Sunday that I ended up skipping the visit to the Doe River Gorge, but it was a fun time in spite of it all and I look forward to the 2024 convention.

Great video as always! It's awesome to see 12 back in action and also interesting to see her pull a 4 car consist.

Thanks! It was a surprise to see the first two cars come off with 190 but I think the four-car train looked good.

Wow, i remember riding this when i was like 9. I remember getting a wooden train whistle to 😂😂 Completely forgot about that until seeing this.

Good footage as always Smokey mtn steam I just realized that going over dead horse trestle they was blowing the whistle similar on when EBT whistles at the Runk Road Bridge

I normally use a Sony AX-100 but this video was filmed with an AX-53

Can I ask you something how often does the gsmr operate no 1702

The GSMR usually runs 1702 on weekends and occasional weekdays from May through December, occasionally taking weeks off for routine maintenance.

I was raised in Boone, NC and i grew up going to Tweetsie Railroad, the prices have grown too outrageously since then. I can spend a day in Dollywood, Pigeon Forge TN for $100 with twice the rides, attractions & amusements. 🙄

Yes Tweetsie is a bit of a hard sell against Dollywood, especially for an adult, but I think it still caters well to families with small children.
