So shane ......is it compatible with alexia , home kit etc at last ? Its christmas season 2020 now . I agree about pre lit Christmas trees with these lights installed.....would fly off the shelves like hot cakes. As long as the pricing is sensible. Lastly, I can imagine in the near future .....during new years eve, everyone's tree is hooked up to a countdown....and giant numbers light up every second.... 5, 4, 3 , 2 , 1......etc. How cool would that be ? Lol 💚💚💚💚

Nice. I’m not all into the crazy multi-colored lighting scenarios, so your videos on RGB stuff aren’t necessarily my cup of tea...but I’m pretty impressed with this product’s ability to ‘map’ itself for custom shows. Very cool. The lighting videos/reviews that I AM waiting for are on bulbs that have adjustable color temperature settings that can also be used with smart wall switches. - I spent a while (about 45-minutes) on the phone with a representative from Lutron. She was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about their products and compatibility with bulbs that have adjustable Kelvin settings. She claimed that Lutron is well aware of the problems that are being faced by users (like myself) who have opted for smart switches, and now want to add additional functionality (IE: color/temperature adjustable bulbs). She believes there will be a solution in the near future. We shall see. * I know that you can use a product like Phillips HUE. But, if still utilizing the wall switch (smart or otherwise), it will create delays in requested illumination settings. Anyway. That’s way off-topic & probably unclear... Again. Good video. Your tree looks good.
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brad! I absolutely love the Lutron Caseta switches. Unfortunately, like you mentioned, smart switches and smart bulbs usually don’t play well together. My Lutron switches are rock solid though...love them. That’s another one of those products that you get what you pay for and worth the money imo. Thanks for watching!

Hey Shane, hoping you can help figure this out... I just purchased the Twinkly Strings 400 that I plan on using for my roof. Just unpackaged them and I'm a bit puzzled as to why the two bundles are split with the plug/controller between them and not at the end. Seems like with the way they are split, the plug will be no where near an outlet if I sting them across my roof line. Does that sound right or am I over complicating this?

Always great to watch your videos! I saw the ‘Twinkly Lights’ advertised last week and thought🤔... “Shane is right on top of this!” They look amazing!🎄 I considered purchasing a string for my Christmas tree ladder, however, no HomeKit integration has always been a deal-breaker for me.

justsendit haha thanks! Yes these are so cool I couldn’t resist! And like you, I almost never buy anything that doesn’t support HomeKit. But there isn’t anything comparable out there that does so I went for it anyways. And with the homebridge plugin I can at least turn them on/off and incorporate them into my scenes and automations. Hopefully they follow through with HomeKit support in the near future.

KanIkFindeEtNavn haha thanks so much for the support!! To answer your question, no, unfortunately you can only turn the lights on/off through the HomeBridge plugin. I use that to include it in Homekit scenes and automations and it will default to the last color and effect used. Then I just use the Twinkly app when I want to change it up. I’m really hoping they will bring native HomeKit support by next year’s holiday season. Thanks again for the love and support of the channel! 😃

Hey Clinton, thanks for the support! That is a good question and unfortunately I don't have a great answer. Seems like you are definitely on the right track by finding something that saves settings and just using a smart switch. I haven't used any that I could recommend. These lights are pretty amazing! I'm guessing that in terms of the Homebridge plugin only provides standard HomeKit colored light functionality i.e. power state, dimming, and color selection? Does the plugin include temperature control?
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 4 жыл бұрын
myHomeKithome no unfortunately I’m only able to turn it on and off with the HomeBridge plugin. It defaults to the last color/effect that was used. This at least allows me to add them to automations and scenes in HomeKit. You can change colors, brightness and power state with Alexa and Google Assistant currently. Hopefully HomeKit support will be next!

Every year it takes me an hour minimum to get this to work on the app. I don't need the baked in effects I want the ones included. New tree 435 leds and $500 spent and nothing but a pain in the ass because you can't get it to work. Then their support form on their website doesn't work either. Customer service is horrible

I was looking into the same thing. I am pretty sure he did not wrap them all the way around. However, the twinkly website has a calculator to figure out how many lights you need for your tree and they give the option for 2D or 3D (wrap around tree). So I would assume there is a way to map an entire tree. I just checked their website and they have instruction on how to 3D map.
@ShaneCreates
@ShaneCreates 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I never got back with the answer. There is an option when mapping out your lights if you are setting up as 2d or 3D (they might call it something else). If you go all the way around you would use the 3D option when mapping them.

Now don't go O.C. on us oldsters! I am not a geek, and have a Disability from my time in the US Coast Guard...1969-1978....I suffered a massive bleed from a 5mm aneurysm's rupture, that took out my short term memory, and I now am a very visual individual and need all the hands on "press here, but not there" directions....I hope you understand the K.I.S.S. principle of instruction!
