Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider on Never Ending Farewell Tours by Ozzy, Scorpions, & KISS! #deesnider
Hey everyone!
In tonight’s video, we look ar Dee Snider from Twisted Sister and his recent interview where he had choice words for several artists who are guilty of perpetuating NeverEnding-Farewell-Tours!
He talks about Ozzy Osbourne, The Scorpians & KISS who have all been guilty of this!
We’ll also discuss other bands who are just as guilty any that Dee mentions in his interview!
Who are these other bands? And why do they continue to add new dates that extend their farewell tours to extra months and even years?
Well, all these and many more questions are addressed in tonight’s video!
And as usual if you enjoy tonight;s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up as that helps the KZfaq algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!

Not a fan of Dee Snider's music or band Twisted Sister, but I like him as a person. The biggest joke is Motley Crue, especially after they all signed paperwork a few years ago that they would never tour again. Until the next reunion tour, that is...

@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Motley Crüe at least had enough original members to tour outside tribute band status compared to Foreigner and even Styx despite Styx having more than 1 original member left. Btw Mr Nolan, any chance of Fleetwood Mac and Styx receiving their own “What killed this band?” Style video similar to your What Killed Eagles video? You’ve mentioned Stevie Nick’s drama Queen attitude ruining FWM and Styx is interesting because I don’t think you’ve in any video I’ve seen described your feelings in why the current Styx lineup minus Lawerence Gowan refuse to accept Dennis for one final reunion tour. I think it is cool if you finally just got out your issues of Nicks overstepping her boundaries in Mac and reveal your thoughts of why Tommy Shaw and JY continue to badmouth Dennis one of the band’s original founders to this day and play revisionist history with his role in the group? Shaw especially owes it one more time to Dennis for not firing him during his drug induced state.

Wasn’t The Who the first band to say that they were going to call it quits, in 1983 and say that was it? And they were probably the first band to renege on that promise. First live aid and then more tours and still they were touring until 2022

To quote a Lucinda Williams song..."It's over. I know it but I can't let go." I was in a band for 20 years with the same drummer. He was older than me and his body started giving out, but he had been going so long he didn't know how to stop. So we all kept going until at last he couldn't go any more. He passed away just a few weeks before our last gig. Bands are a lot more than the records they put out, they are (as I'm sure Michael Noland will vouch for) a tribe. I don't think it's just money these bands are after. When the dream calls, it's tough to say no.

There was one time I believed a rock band when they said “this is it,” and it was my favorite band, Rush. It was their R40 Tour in 2014-15, and while they never officially said “last tour,” they sure hinted at it. So I saw them twice on that tour, and took my son to one of the shows. And they were still top-notch. True to their word, when the tour was over, sadly, they were done. (And then we lost Neil. FU, cancer.) But other than Rush, I don’t believe bands when they say “this is it,” because it rarely is.

McCartney's got everyone hypnotized into thinking he can still belt out rockers. Waters, the same thing. No, I was lucky enough to see both of these guys and so many others in the heyday. I prefer my memories of seeing them to paying hundreds of dollars to hear them barely sing and to have bragging rights. These days I enjoy local musicians doing covers, (and original music). I like indie music as well, working musicians not out to fill Madison Square Garden but rather to make really good music.

It varies band to band. All my friends that saw the last Scorpions and KISS tours had a blast! Iron Maiden recently all became senior citizens and they're as good as they've ever been! On the other side, DEVO are doing a farewell tour and I saw them in 2006 and performed as very old men. It was kind of embarrassing and that was 17 years ago. So it varies. It probably helps if they constantly stay active like Maiden did and not go away for over a decade like DEVO.

Believe it or not Micheal, I used to listen go to Twisted Sister shows in NYC in the early 1980's when all they did was play small clubs in and around the Long Island/NYC area. They were a rising local band, and although they wore the makeup from the beginning, they were much less mainstream and "campy" back then, and a lot more hardcore and speed/heavy metal back then. They were average musicians but they put on outstanding shows, and they developed an enormous following. They released an album, went a little more mainstream, and hit it big with "We're Not Gonna Take It ". Thanks for the great take! Peace! Ernie

That's exactly what they were. They used to open their shows after the clubs played AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top". Their "followers" heard what they became and felt they sold out....becoming a parody of what they started out as. I will say I respected Dee for testifying before Congress (along with John Denver) over artist's rights back in the '80's....against Tipper Gore.

It was a little bit of wrong information, the TS concerts for 2023 were cancelled. Dee Snider said in a radio Interview in June, that they maybe play single concerts (when there is a benificitary background or so), but they won't play a Tour, because he is tired of life on the road. So 2016 really was their final tour - Dee sticked to his principles. Twisted Sister was inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame this January, where they played some songs (Mike Portnoy, ex-Dream Theater, Winery Dogs on Drums again🥢🤘👍)

Michael, you have to admire Led Zeppelin when they retired in 1980 after the death of their drummer, John Bonham. The members of the band could have replaced him and made millions, but the integrity and reputation of the band came first. The fact that John Bonham was irreplaceable in their minds probably helped them in their decision.

I think the main motivation is money. Not just from the revenue from these tours. I was told that royalty checks are paid only to the top couple hundred or so grossing performing acts. So I can only assume that as the years go by since the last farewell tour, the artist(s) get bumped down the list, and have to do a tour to get back near the top; to keep those checks coming in the mail.

I believe if you still look good, are healthy and can put on a great performance...why not? I'm 54 and play drums/sing (at the same time) in an extreme metal band with a theatrical image. Yes, if one is struggling with health issues and doesn't look fit for the stage then perhaps it's time to reconsider. Life is ever fleeting, yet precious. A gamble in itself. Music is a bonding experience. An energy exchange. And it is very hard to quit once you have it in your blood. If your are blessed then I say continue until the grave is fastly imminent. Look at Alice Cooper. His ghastly image was made to last. To endure the duration of time. Arthur Brown is another prime example.

It really depends on the artist. Look at Iron Maiden - still putting out great music, and absolutely awesome on stage. Kiss, on the other hand, should have hung it up years ago.

It’s hard to disagree with what’s been said here, but I am less sympathetic for two reasons: 1) Living in the UK - Glasgow and Devon - it was always harder in the eighties to see the bands that I liked as they’d either ignore us (Van Halen, for example) or play limited dates, more often than not in London; 2) I had less money then than I have now so it’s easier to afford to see these legacy acts, even if they do ramp up the prices. (I’m not rich at all - I’m a teacher - but it’s still easier to buy a ticket to see my favourites as 70-year-olds, than it was then when they were in their heyday.)

I have never seen the eagles so I did buy tickets for this tour. I know it's not the original band but it's the closest I'm going to get for this bucket list band.

It's definitely a real thing. I am a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, but come on. It's over, I'm fine with them playing the music but not under that name. They should be done, Kiss, Eagles, Foreigner, Crue...all should be done. Ozzy too, it's enough already.

“…..a lot of em just aren’t that easily fooled! I know that’s true for me!” Michael….I love you brother. As we age, most of us gain more brains than we do energy. I saw the GMA segment on the Foreigner farewell bit. Jeff Pilson I think is the longest standing member having joined up after Dokken I believe. Hell, even Ricky Wills wasn’t and original member and he put something like 25 years in! Ed Gagliardi was the original, Ric-4001 Bass wielding original bassist to that band. Evidently he gave much backchat to Mick and was terminated thereafter. Nonetheless, he was the original and should not ever be forgotten!

We go "see" a concert, and I think that's what most concert goers do, see it. They don't really hear anything. So they won't even miss the nuances original members provided. It's just a party with decent BGM.

new watcher here, but i kind of agree with him. i’d rather acts continue for as long as they can before they consider a ‘farewell’ tour. it only makes their legacy deteriorate and make themselves the laughing stock of classic rock and just rock in general. however, that being said, Dee Snider (or twisted sister in general) isn’t the biggest joke around, that’s motley crue - in my 20 years of living i’ve never witnessed an act as pathetic as them. nice video btw !

Not a Twisted Sister fan but Dee does have a point, certainly Kiss and Motley crue are guilty of touring way past when they should have stopped. Much as it pains me The Stones probably should have stopped they were still bringing it on Bigger bang tour(2005) but the clips from last outing were not at same level, well more accurately Kieth seemed not so good. I am huge Stones fan but i have always tried to be realistic a phenomenal band can make a bad record, well obviously not always i might have got incandescent if you'd said that when i was 15. But now like them i ain't.

FOMO (fear of missing out) is a bitch, but you shouldn't allow it to control your life too much. I'm not 100% against going to a concert hiding behind a lie for marketing purposes, to me that's traditional capitalism and I'm too exhausted to fight it everywhere let alone in areas that's supposed to be my entertainment/break from the stresses of it, but I definitely wouldn't let it dupe me into spending extra. With that said, still haven't gone to a concert yet. Definitely someday, but I don't think I want to go see someone out of their golden years trying to cling on said years, not for the prices they go for. I think the prices are so high because of people going to concerts to feel younger, live a childhood dream as an adult, or something. Whatever the reason is, it's not why I listen to music and it's not gonna cut it for me, I'd only wanna go to a concert with someone that actually is able to still perform well and that's honestly not most of these bands.

Michael, people identify with names, KISS, Led Zep, The Eagles, whoever. AND SONGS. Not so much the members (in most cases). Classic rock radio has been playing the same songs by the same bands for 50 years and that's all most listeners know. It's like being stuck in a time loop without knowing it. Just sayin

Yeah, think about it, like a lot of the comments are saying it’s a marketing gimmick to make money with these farewell tours an stuff. But Dee is probably doin the same but doin it different an trying to be smart about it, but I don’t know if he’s on tour or what his deal is these days but maybe he’s just doin the publicity thing different to disguise that he’s actually trying to make money himself an by making negative comments about these other bands, which he’s possibly right at the same time, so that he can attract attention to maybe his new album an tour……He could just be, being sneaky about it…..😮lol. Yeah agree with him. I saw Paul McCartney when he still had a voice, don't want to him 80+ with John Lennon AI. Like all the re-mastering, I'm frankly getting tired of it. Of course in the case of Macca, he still is active in the studio, but in the case of Genesis, I thought the whole thing was embarrassing. Genesis were great until Phil Collins f**ked it up and it all felt like the final f**k up.

It's funny Dee talks about retiring with integrity, considering he's financially screwed over his band - several times with royalties, as he signed a songwriting publishing deal where only he gets royalties, not the rest of the band. He hates being known as Dee Snider from Twisted Sister and not a solo artist/actor/DJ, etc. Some of these bands like KISS and Foreigner don't need the money, they just are addicted to performing and it's hard to let go. Sure, he's right- many aren't playing/signing well anymore but Dee also disappeared from performing for years- about 20- because there was little demand to see Twisted (and yes, I'm a big fan) so his voice is still pretty good. He's big at throwing stones and acting holier than thou. He should just shut up.
