A lot of "youngsters" need to respect Dee Snider and the stand he took as part of those PMRC hearings in the early/mid 80s about music censorship. He lived the rebellion of rock and roll. Those hearings pretty much lead to what you see now as the Parental Advisory stickers on albums now.

This song is a direct response to the Parents Music Resource Center, which was led by Tipper Gore and their efforts to censor music. Dee Snider, the singer actually spoke up against the censorship. The only thing that "they" won was having warning labels indicating if the music contains any adult content. The music stores followed the rules at first. I only know this because my younger sister tried to buy a 2 Live Crew cassette and couldn't. I had to go buy it for her.

@@ckobo84 Dee testified in 1985. However, the PRMC began their "investigation" long before it got to that point. This song was released in 1984. So, I guess technically you're right. This song was released before Dee took on Tipper. But it was released after the censorship word started flying around the music industry.

Don't make this a one side issue. BOTH parties were in on this crap. The father was modeled after Reagan, if you can find the DVD of their videos. I know about animal house the movie, but in reality Reagan was a reality then, and was made fun of, in a lot of different ways. Like making fun of Hitler is to the Jewish people. The church programs that I remember then, used drugs as a excuse to mess your kid up. I hope my past friends recovered. They looked like they had a lobotomy after they got out. Twisted Sister helped me cope with the times I was in, and I thank them for it.

Oh yeah, the 80's were really a golden age for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Twisted Sister had a lot of great bangers besides this sing: "You Can't Stop Rock n' Roll", "I Am, I'm Me", "I Wanna Rock". You can also check out Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Queensrÿche, WASP or european metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Saxon, Dio, Helloween. These bands broke it big during the mid-80's.

No, not a movie, just a typical 80's MTV Music Video. Bands were trying out all kinds of different ways to present their tunes besides just lip synching to a song. Front Man Dee Snyder is one Righteous Dude in real life. Very intelligent and knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. He hosted a Documentary series titled "DEAD ART", where he featured classic Artwork in Cemeteries around the world, which I highly recommend!✌🍁✌

Great song. Dee Snider (the lead singer) is a super smart guy. He got called before a congressional hearing on censorship they wanted way back in the day. It wasn't against music censorship, that came later. It was against parental abuse, and though Mark Metcalf's character comes directly from the "Animal house" movie, which Dee Snider loved, his abusive rants are based on the rants that Dee Snider's own father, a cop and a nasty piece of work, used to give Dee when Dee was a boy. Oddly enough, Dee's father was proud of how he was portrayed in this video and even showed Mark Metcalf the "proper" way to fling all the books out of a kid's bookcase. Mark Metcalf could hardly believe his eyes, and told Dee Snider: "I was just given a lecture on how to ruin somebody's life".

French - guitars and vocals( he's the one wearing the sunglasses) Eddie Ojeda guitars and vocals (the guitarist playing the guitar with the bulls-eye design) Mark Mendoza - bass A.J. Pero - drums (RIP A.J. ) As for why they named the band Twisted Sister, they were inspired by a NYC based band called "The New York Dolls" that would dress in drag and perform onstage J.J. French is the founding member of this group Interestingly, he'd founded the band as a means of breaking a addiction to drugs (which is actually quite ironic)

The father was in the movie animal house and basically played the same villain in it. I have no doubt that got him this job.

Yep, He's like how my father was. I was going to say he sounds like a Vet. No one speaks about the abuse kids from vets endured. When I was 14 my dad came into my room, threw all of my clothes out of my dresser. I told him to clean his mess. lol He slapped me. I screamed right in his face. He never slapped me again. We always had to ask to leave the table. Shit, we had to ask to open the fridge. This video came out when I was a kid.

Yeah, as others have mentioned, this was during the late 80s and the PMRC hearings where the U.S. Congress was listening to arguments that some music should be censored due to "Graphic lyrical content". Basically it backfired on the people who wanted it censored. Congress passed a law that music with graphic lyrics had to have a sticker on the front saying so. The infamous "PARENTAL ADVISORY' sticker. The idea was to help parents determine whether or not they wanted their kids buying those albums. But in reality all it did was help kids find 'the good stuff' and record stores didnt care who bought what. When Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue heard that congress passed a law and their records had to have a warning label he said, "I love them! Put it on right now!!" It just goes to prove you cant censor people and their music. Especially metal. Many people have learned the hard way that metal will always win because metalheads are more intelligent than they get credit for.
