The 4K videos being strictly for premium users makes sense from a business stand point since the only real marketing point for premium was the "No ads" thing which could be blocked by ad blockers anyways so making a video resolution special to premium only makes sense since you can't really get around that (at least that I know of) and it'd give someone a real reason to join rather than just downloading a free ad block program

Apparently it's already an option to have Shorts not show up in your viewers subscriptions feed. I've only seen one channel do this. Though to be fair, I'm not sure if it's a universal feature or one of the ones that youtube rolls out little by little to a small portion of youtube channels. If that's not the case, then youtubers are either not enabling that option because they don't know about it/where the setting is located, or they don't care to hide Shorts from their subscribers.

I think if streamers included the ad structure into their stream format this could really incentivize people to subscribe/ get turbo. For the duration of the ads the streamer could momentarily pause the activity they are doing & the ad break could be used to actively chat & interact with the chatters for the whole time. Subscribers feel better cause they get to interact with the streamer, non subs feel better cause they’re not missing out on content, and twitch is happy because money. Basically just turn the ad time into community & chat time.
@RGC_animation
@RGC_animation Жыл бұрын
Let's say you are fighting an intense boss battle, and someone in chat says there's an ad, well you pause the game and start chatting with your chat, and after the ad, you continue fighting the boss battle like nothing happened, it isn't gonna affect much anyway.
@MacNSteeez
@MacNSteeez Жыл бұрын
@@RGC_animation I more so mean that if streamers are given the option of when the ad break takes place they can strategicly place it during the less important parts of the stream or after something important. For example they could put it right after the boss fight, shoot the shit with subscribed chatters for a couple minutes, while non subs just chill out & watch some ads knowing they’re not really missing out on any content.

@MacNSteeez
@MacNSteeez Жыл бұрын
@@moneyonsquirtle yeah I think that what I’m talking about would give streamers the flexibility to grow without interrupting the viewing experience - especially new viewers. Last thing you want as a growing streamer is a new person seeing an ad first time they click on your stream. They’re a lot more likely to turn it off at that point. The way I’m suggesting ads work is the streamer gets to decide when the ad break is & if there’s ads for first time viewers, how long the ad break is - all of that. Give the streamer complete control of the ads so that they can work around them instead of interrupting the content for an ad break. Give them a minimum (&a bonus if they exceed it) they have to hit in terms of ad time for the month but let them have free reign in terms of how they hit it. This way the responsibility of making sure the ads aren’t disruptive is on the streamer rather than twitch. Which in turn makes the viewing experience much better for everyone imo.

Any way to have the ad read at the beginning? I feel one of the big things that is appealing about Mogul Mail is the almost stream of consciousness pace. @@MarginalSC yeah, twitch acts like they have no competition, so they don’t really care what they do to the platform because it’s the biggest streaming site on the internet. just like nba2k they have no competition to make they’re games good because they’re the only basketball game that comes out every year so they know people are gonna buy it no matter what, atleast a big majority of people are.

The main reason I don't watch twitch isn't the ads themselves, but the lack of regulation for them. Literal unskippable ads when I hop into a stream or a random ad in the middle of a tense or exciting moment makes me immediately leave. So if you allow the streamers to choose when and how many ads are played, I will watch twitch 100x more than I do. Like, just imagine if you were watching the super bowl or the world cup and they could just play an ad at any random time, there would be literal riots.

5:59 I think the easiest way for creators to benefit from this would be simply by using it as an excuse for the health of themselves and chat to take a little break from sitting there watching a stream for hours on end uninterrupted. "Hey Chat, I'm going to take a little break and stretch/pee/get a snack. I'm gonna run a little (3 minute) ad." Chat is either going to: block the ads with an adblocker anyway, hang out for 3 minutes while the ad runs, or do the same thing. I know advertisers don't really want that because they want people to be exposed to the actual ads, but if people just walk away from their computer then basically if an ad is playing in the forest and nobody is around, does it still make a sound?

YT recently sent me down the Ludwig rabbit hole, and I gotta say I'm loving the videos it keeps shoveling at me. But since I'm apparently jumping through several years of Ludwig (and QT) content at random, the constant hair color changes are really jarring. Like, for Lud and longtime viewers it changes very infrequently and apparently due to unlucky wheel spins or challenge losses. But for me Lud's hair color is on shuffle. It's not actually a problem, but it makes for a pretty goofy "newly found youtuber deep dive" experience.

One streamer I watch did the 3mins ad and made it work with his chat. When it was time for ads he stopped gaming or doing any content, took that time to grab a drink or use the washroom, he really made it work and his chat loved it. Twitch took away the 3mins option so he went back to 1 or 2mins until they give him back the 3min option.

I always thought the twitch ads thing to be positive, ever since they first rolled it out for some partners in June. The creator can choose to do it manually or automatically, and if they do it automatically, they can also choose the number of ad breaks, they can choose when these ad breaks happen, and they can choose the duration of said ad breaks, it allows them to have some control, even if the minutes per hour doesn't change. However, I also do the increase in minutes per hour isn't great. 1, 2 and 3 minutes were already a lot originally, less than youtube, but still a lot for live content. Now 5 minutes? 8 minutes? That's way too much. For 8 minutes, if you split it in 30 seconds ad breaks, that's 16 ad breaks an hour. And if you split it in 2 minutes ad breaks, that's still 4.
@jaenelle-nu9zh
@jaenelle-nu9zh Жыл бұрын
i think more than this, it's 8 minutes of content you miss. the streamer doesn't pause what they're doing during an ad break unlike cable TV. and twitch isn't like youtube that allows you to roll back the vod while watching the stream; you have to go to the actual vod itself and watch what you missed which makes you miss what's happening in real time, and it's a whole problem.

The idea of a slider is prolly best, it allowed the people who want to fan experience to keep it low and the people who want to make money to bump it up to 10m. I know a few streamers that use this to fill in time when they go on breaks or have an intermission while setting up to do something else. It's not for everyone, but the right people can make it work without just stopping what they are doing to run a 10m ad for the fk of it.

The thing is it doesn't have to be a continuous ad break. You can do a 2-3 minute break every 20 minutes to stretch/ get water / use the restroom etc and just fit it into your content. With how many people do content that's based on matchmaking like League of Legends, Valorant, Tarkov, Overwatch etc it's SUPER easy to reasonably fit them in without having viewers that aren't subbed missing content.

I have 500 avg viewers and the money I get from the incentive is just not worth it. I simply can not take a bathroom break every hour and run ads for 5mins and end up with that little amount I am getting. It just doesn't work. They have to change the way they run ads for live streams so people don't miss stuff. Like overlays on stream etc...

If I'm hopping between people trying to see who I want to watch, being bombarded with ads just makes me click off of twitch instead of sticking around. I won't mind an interruption if I know it's good content for me but struggling to even figure that out sucks

I am someone who almost exclusively uses it do you think there will be a way to not have vods or shorts for example show up in the boxes? i think as long as creators have control of their ad breaks it should be fine. if they go grab a bite or go to the bathroom, or go answer the front door or something, they tell their viewers "ad break while i go do the thing" hit a button, and ads roll for however many min you're gone, hit it again when you get back, the current add that's playing plays out, and back to streaming. when doing it that way, it removes the entire invasive aspect of the ads, and most viewers were going to stay and wait out the wait for their streamer to return anyways so it should be the same with ads. yes, some creators will go many hours in between ad breaks, but ill bet when you average them taking care of themselves as a financial gain, the expected retention time and total playtime of ads will both increase, being a net gain for everyone involved. more ads played, more ads watched, more money for the streamer, more money for twitch, and the viewer gets an ad or 3 instead on a cute little brb page or an empty chair another option is noninvasive ads. they can fill the black voids on the sides of the actual player and have no sound, or take up a small corner (like 1/16 of the total player) of the player as a transparent overlay and be muted. you see something you're interested in as a viewer, you click on it, and it opens another page, leaving the audio from twitch still playing. the gains for the streamer should be lower with these, but if they don't want to take breaks with the option above, this is a decent 2nd option

Solution to stream ads: When an runs, minimize the streamer’s window to a small corner based window and have the add be the dominant w/sound. That way the viewers still have content, and they don’t click off the video. Win Twitch, Win Viewer, Win Streamer, Win Marketed Company.

Honestly, I think the biggest issue with Twitch ads is that a lot of creators do not really have the ability to give preference to ad moments. 10 minutes per hour of ads isnt really that much compared to television, where you had 5 minutes of ads every 20 minutes, or in some american cases, 1 minute of ads every 5 minutes. Ads arent necessarily bad, what is bad is that on twitch, streamers basically have to open up a second screen with a different account to know when an ad is being showed. There is no warning to it, there is no way to postpone it to a moment where it is better. Lets say I am playing a game with matchmaking, during the time of the game itself, I would prefer to have 0 ads. Some games can last longer than an hour. I dont think viewers would mind having a period of 15 minutes after a 1 hour game, where its 5 minutes of ads that shows up to everyone so they(the streamer and viewers) can go pee and grab some snacks, 9 minutes of post-game chatting, then 1 minute of ads before the next game starts. Or even better, having silent ads that act more like banners. I dont mind having banner ads when watching someone. People hate ads on Twitch because it is almost always intrusive. It either interrupts gameplay(and potentially the most important minute of the entire match), interrupts the streamer mid sentence and you cant find out untill you go back, or it simply lasts long enough to the point where you missed so much of the stream that you cant really follow things and just lose interest. Give the creators more control over when and how they can run ads during their stream. I wouldnt even mind if streamers were even given the option to add an overlay so they can commentate on the ad during its duration(giving more exposure to the ad itself in general, being a bit risk/reward, but the amount of exposure is often worth the potential negativity). All in all, Twitch is trying to apply KZfaq's advertising plans to Twitch, without understanding how KZfaq got to their advertising plans in the first place. KZfaq did a lot of research in what people would mind and what not. KZfaq does have unskippable ads and easily reaches 8 full minutes of ads being shown per hour(if not more). But the big difference, if you see an ad, the video doesnt continue. If you see an ad on television, the video doesnt continue. If you see an ad on a streaming service, the video doesnt continue. Twitch videos do continue. So the advertising strategy that Twitch needs to follow is that of live events being shown on television: Planned breaks for ads, include options for banner ads(I would easily sacrifice 10% of my screen for random banner ads if it means reduced ads). Even an ad that happens 30 seconds before raiding someone or after closing the stream(because people stick around for a bit in chat anyway).

I see so many comments about a rewind feature that needs to be added to Twitch. What you don't understand is so many streams use or play copyrighted songs. Having a rewind feature means the server is then storing the content which is illegal by law if it contains copyrighted music streaming or even playing live. youTube covers this with DMCA because everything gets stored on servers. Twitch still doesn't have this completely worked out.
