- Who Am I? -
I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor.
I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this KZfaq channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.
New videos are uploaded several times each week.

Another chapter of the history of virology is presented in this great episode of TWiV. 50 Years of RT, this enzyme was discovered by basic science, and the application of RT in molecular biology revolutionized molecular diagnosis.

Vincent has this way of driving home the fact that microbiology and virology is just endlessly intersectional, relevant and fascinating.

It's just another TWiV and we get to see Giants of Virology. 5:36 Howard Temin died in 1994 so he is not on the panel. John Coffin worked with him.

Heads-up on a Minor typo in the description. "Harold Various" should be "Harold Varmus." Autocorrect strikes again.

Loved it. I don't know what created a greater fan moment, realizing that David being a Nobel laureate Or David being the originator of " Baltimore scheme" 😄

What amuses me is, although Baltimore is third author, of one of my college textbooks published in 1978, the Baltimore scheme isn't in the book. Reverse transcriptase is, but only in a cursory fashion.

Speaking of yeast, I just had some delicious homemade bread made with just whole wheat flour and yeast. I add salt to taste and know nothing more about yeast. 🤪🍞🍴😴🛌 Yes, I'll never get a Nobel Prize or probably any other kind of prize, but I can make awesome bread. 🤪 I do know yeast is a fungus, something I learned when somebody said that yeast is in the animal kingdom so I had to prove that wrong. Not many people know yeast is fungus.
