I took off from here in Nov of 2001.I flew on American and a police car followed us on the tarmac until we took off.

@@bretvaks9500 ... You're mistaken. Whenever you see Air Force One, the second plane is the Doomsday Plane, & not the other Air Force One. Seeing both Airforce One's flying together is a rare sight indeed.

Hi I just shared 2 links on what the old and new Doomsday planes are. This video shows both Airforce one planes as there are 2 that always fly with the president in case one plane is damaged or incapacitated. They also use 2 planes for safety issues when flying overseas. In this video they are both air force one planes not the doomsday planes which are equally cool and amazing but you are not going to see one land at a public airport.

Side Note: These aircraft are not Air Force One. They are VC-25A's. Air Force One is a designation given to ANY Air Force (and sometimes civilian depending on the circumstances) aircraft that is carrying the President of the United States.

In that case, they are Air Force One..as seen on the video.. (They are VC25A's when they are not carrying POTUS) Both of them are called that, when they are carrying the President. Now, it's not specific which one is carrying the POTUS, as to NOT give it away... Same with Marine one. It is always accompanied with another or two Identical Choppers.

Standard operating procedure for international visits. Backup not always landing at the same airport. Along with Air Force cargo planes for the motorcade and helicopters.

I've never seen footage of Angel One and Angel Two take off in sequence before. I've only ever seen them together in documentary footage taken inside the hangar at Andrews AFB. I just presumed they were typically kept at separate adjacent foreign airstrips when abroad for security reasons.

I’ve seen them parked next to each other in Israel & Japan but I agree, I’ve never seen them take off together either. They normally fly separate. This has to be a rare occasion.

@@bob80q btw Angel is the Secret Service call sign for the plane. You’ll find it on the NatGeo 9/11 documentary interviewing then President Bush.

As far as I know, it's very unusual to have 2 Air Force One aircrafts at the same time, at the same airport. Usually the backup is located at another airport nearby. Only supporting aircrafts are with the Air Force One, right?

You're referring to the NAOC 747( ex NEACP), or Doomsday plane. It does follow AF1 and is usually on standby at an airfield nearby. Whenever the President was in Los Angeles for example, the E-4B was parked, ready to go at March AFB about 70 miles east.

Been standard procedure for decades, need a backup if the primary breaks down. You obviously don’t know much about Presidential transport

They usually don't land at the same airport, but they travel together (one is a decoy).

Yes, its the same company that operated Hamiltons aircraft, hence the same livery. But both this aircraft and the Ex-Hamilton aircraft are stored now.
