MC - (Neptune City) - Structure Fire - 401 W Sylvania Ave. - TWO ALARM.
At around 2:30 AM Neptune City received a call for structure fire at 401 W Sylvania Ave, Neptune City, NJ. On arrival of the first due engine they reported heavy fire from apartment 3A on Division 1 & 2. It was quickly upgraded to a working fire assignment and transmitted the BOX Alarm. Neptune City crews were first due working aggressively to make a push & while doing so were able to rescue one victim with minor injuries. The fire quickly spread due to wind & advanced fire conditions throughout the building. The first attack line was an 1.3/4 it was quickly upgraded to a 2 Alarm Fire. Asbury Tower 83-89 was setting up arial ops along with Wall Township 52-2-90. Avon by the Sea Ladder 86-1-90 was on the A-B side. Belmar hook & ladder 87-1-90 was also there but was not setup. Multiple hand lines were stretched including 2.5 inch blitz fires. Two Master Streams were put in service to handle the fire through the roof. The cause of the fire ATT is unknown. The Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s are investigating this fire currently. Crews operated for around 3 hours during this early morning December fire in Neptune City.

This department is a bunch of clowns. Needs to be Thoughly retrained! I live here n it was a disgrace! The insurance company should watch this video n hold the fire department half responsible for the damages. They let this happen. Could have been half the loss that it was. Not only did 8 apartments get burned to the ground but the rest of building has water damage n electric was cut. Nobody can live there. Thank you neptune n Hamilton fire. Totally at fault for this. Kids patting themselves on the back for the great job they did! What a joke. Hopefully they get sued. Fire all of them.

The fire laws at that time, were not what they are now. By the time the first fire truck showed up to the building I lived in, flames were visible from the roof. The fire started in a unit on the 3rd floor, and with no fire walls, there was no stopping the progression of the fire. 30 fire companies responded, took 13 hours to put the fire out. The building was a total loss, and 150 people were left homeless as a result. 45 unit apartment building.

Having lived in a small NJ town for 40 years, there is an unfortunate reality that these departments are mostly volunteer and always underfunded. Some areas have converted to county wide departments and that has paid off. There isn't usually a specific person to blame - except maybe the US congress. Instead of funding your special interest groups send funds to small towns!

I love the comments section😂 1-wind driven fire 2-it got a hold of the attic 3-GPM has to overpower BTU The crews were handed a stinker from jump street. I agree with at least attempting a trench cut. People were moving with a purpose and at a certain point there’s not enough fuel and the GPMs outweigh the BTUs. That’s how these fires go. You have a 50/50 shot when you get there. It’s either going to go well, or it’s not. Those are facts.

@@Summerguy24 valid question however I wasn’t the IC on that job. That would be a tactical question. My educated guess is that the first assignment was a trench cut. @@steveking6879 because they should have been using those ladder pipes alot sooner then they did. Also at one point the ladder on the side was close to being engulfed in fire, he should have moved the stick once the guys were off the roof. They practically let that building burn and that's a shame

These volunteer fire departments do a lot of mulling around and it takes them forever to get water on the fire. I watch footage from other departments and they are running to get hoses going.

This is a pathetic display on all sides. WHY are all the towers in operation and not ONE is flowing water in the attic space? It's obvious the interior crews are outside and went defensive. I'd be ashamed to be seen in turnout gear on this scene.

So sad for the residents. Who is the "wannabe" fireman on the camera calling out the narration, sounds like he's trying to act like a fireman with his terminology. Why is there NO water going on the fire, nowhere, no water? Hell, they don't even have hose line out, only see one line, why aren't the 2 ladder trucks dumping tons of water on this??? After the buildings are destroyed they turn on the water from the ladder trucks....just a bit late guys. Glad I don't live in this town.....

There is absolutely NO REASON to be on that roof but there is a very important reason to be putting water on the Visible Burning Material. Opening the roof at those two unburned locations drew the fire into those areas and spread the fire. If they didn't have firefighter gear on, the police would arrest people doing this for arson. THESE ARE YOUR HEROES PEOPLE!

It looked like they were doing a trench cut to stop the progression. However they did not have a hose line with them and that is the important piece for a trench cut to work.

@@jamessimmonds3773 Vertical Ventilation and especially Trench Cuts, draw the fire from a burning area and move it to an Unburned area and just spread the fire. The USA fire disservice couldn't Coordinate lunch to save their lives so you will NEVER see water being applied in coordination with roof work. You will see what you saw here.
