This week, I made a diorama of two armies battling over the unearthed skeleton of a giant T-Rex. The two armies are mercenary groups hired by competing trophy hunters to protect and secure the dinosaur bones for themselves.

Dude! Such a cool build! Now I want to see more fossil gathering! Maybe an excavation in a swamp pulling out the skeleton of a mammoth? Or on a beach with a plesiosaur skeleton and a monster hidden in the waves? Would love to see some structures like tents or scaffolding worked in.

The fact that the skeleton is both ginormous and fully articulated tells a terrifying story. These bones are recent. Fossilised maybe, but probably not in the MYA range as contemporary dinosaur fossils. These would likely be in the TYA range, akin to Pleistocene megafauna. Land of the Lost perhaps? Speaking of such animals, can we get some interactions with prehistoric animals and cryptids? Such as a Columbian mammoth herd being stalked by a dragon or suitably horrifying beast? The world you've created is amazing, and the more I see of it the more I want to tie my boots up and explore it! Excellent work as usual and I eagerly await whatever comes next!

I’ll do you one better - a tiny, under-equipped group hauling a gargantuan fossil while several much larger armies try and steal the catch. The only reason the small group has been able to defend is because the main forces of the larger armies are busy keeping each other in check. It’d be a big undertaking but a pretty epic diorama

The really incredible thing is that this happened. Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope, previous friends and paleontological colleagues, had a terrible falling out and started the Bone Wars, a cold war where they each tried to discredit and name more genera than the other. Later on, it got ruthless and they hired mercenaries to defend their excavation sites and sabotage the other’s. That’s actually where modern American paleontology can trace most of its most notable discoveries such as Triceratops, Allosaurus, Diplodocus, and Stegosaurus.
