Those tails matched perfectly with the Tunnel Delta to make a magnificent presence in the sky. Flying along side the Sun Oak they made the perfect partners.

I think that's the first time that I've used those tails on the Tunnel Delta, Carl, and I was happy with how they looked. See you soon!

Ce video Jim. Loved the music. The big Deltas look great with tails on the corners. Thanks Jim!

Tails can certainly add to the appearance of a kite, Dewey, as well as usually helping stability, of course.

It's fun to see how steady the two big ones are compared the the "small" sled kite 😊
@JimNicholls
@JimNicholls Жыл бұрын
That's true - as a general rule, the bigger a kite is, the steadier it flies.

They're not bad unless the wind gets really strong, Craig. At 82, I'm more careful than I used to be with big kites, but these are not a problem.

I was a bit unsure about the music, Jim, but I also think it is fun. It's called "Horses and trains" and came from the KZfaq free audio library.

@Mark A. Groh Won't be long, I hope, Mark. It won't be anything special like my 1,000th, but maybe one or two extra bits anyway. I just hope we have some good weather, as we're only ten days from the shortest day of the year now.

Congratulations on #1994 Jim! May I join the “countdown”with you? I think I found your channel shortly after you hit 1,100 … and I was amazed!!! I was just beginning my pursuit of what had been a childhood dream - to spend time and experience joy flying kites! - and your motto “Keep it Simple, Make it Fun” REALLY resonated, and your kind, patient and helpful illustrations of How to do this well really stuck. I’m so thankful for the countless hours of time and incredible talent and wisdom you have shared with us over the years!!!

Thanks for another very nice comment, Mary. I'm hoping it won't be long before 2,000 but I might slow down a bit after that. With my 83rd birthday coming in four months, I'm feeling my age a bit now, but will keep going as long as I can.

Hi Jim, I have also a Conyne. But more little (1,80), I use it when the wind starts to be strong, too strong for my 3 meters delta from HQ. Thank you for your videos.

I'm glad you like the videos, Christian. The delta conyne is a good kite, and I have others also; one of them is the same size as this, but the others are all smaller.

I have the big Alpine DC from ITW and love it. You can literally fly that thing in vapors and have had it out of sight on a spool of 50lb 2500feet with the leaves in the top of trees barely moving. I may have to pick this one up given my Alpine DC is slowly wearing out. I've tried a couple o the big chinese deltas and not impressed.
@JimNicholls
@JimNicholls Жыл бұрын
The Alpine DC is a lovely kite for sure. Here in NZ, we aren't allowed to fly above 400 feet, but I think in any case I'd be a bit wary of flying mine to 2500 feet on 50lb line. The problem is that wind speeds can vary greatly at that kind of height, and a sudden gust that broke the line would also take the kite far away from its starting point. I'm glad you've not had that problem (maybe your winds are steadier than ours) and I hope you go on having a lot of fun like that. I'm not sure that Sun Oak are still making the big DC, but it's certainly worth checking out.
