Seems like the issue would be with people who sell food because they know they can exploit people in an overpriced city anyway. If it's not more expensive to ship it there, that means the thing driving the price up is greedy sellers, not buyers, right?

@@jackl8025 It's both parties, actually. They can hike up the prices specifically because there's a market for it. If you create a business where the product is high and then no one buys it, then your business either fails or you adapt (in this case, it'd be by lowering the prices, most likely) It's just something that happens in big cities. Some things are cheaper and some things are more expensive.

​@@jackl8025 It gets you more money. Which in turn allows your business to grow. It's different with each business, but it can allow you to do such things like fund more advertisements and increase your visibility. Since we're talking about seafood, then it could allow for better ingredients, better interior design, tons of things. All of this then gives it an even higher chance to grow in return. If done properly (with some good luck thrown in), it can create a cycle with a lot of momentum behind it. That's generally the whole point of a business. People generally don't go into them for charity work. Especially in a huge hub like Vancouver (or any large city for that matter). Property is expensive af and there is an absolute ton of competition around every corner. All of these things can factor into the price of your goods. There's a million things that go on in the background of owning a business.

It's a legitimate mark of confusion. The technology required to post (servers, networking equipment, cabling, etc.) adds a fair bit to climate crisis while posting if not acted upon does nothing to fix it.
