Volcano update from Iceland. Lava encircles Sylingafell mountain and might push towards the road to Blue Lagoon (road 43). The southern crater is likely to last for some weeks. The Southern cone also emits lava to the south (from its backside) via a tube, where we see a lava pool.
5th Volcanic Eruption (8th since 2021) of Reykjanes Volcano started on May 29th, 2024 at 12:50 just north of Grindavik, Reykjanes Peninsula. As for 16:00 May 29th the erupting fissure was 3.4 km long and the lava ran over the road no. 43 (Grindavik road) for the 2nd time in that location (first time back in January) and also over road 425 (Nesvegur) west of town. By the evening of the first day activity subsided and was concentrated along some 2 km stretch, more or less at the same location as back in March, around the old crater. As for today, June 3 we have two distinct cones erupting close distance to each other, emitting lava flows in the opposite directions: the northern cone emits lava to the east, while the southern one (bigger one) sends lava to the west where its facing a mountain (Sylingafell). Southern cone also emits lava to the south via a tube, where we see a lava pool.
Update (05.06.24): As predicted, the northern cone (with twin vents) nearly died out over last night.

Thanks for the great coverage. One note is that lava is also flowing out of the base of the big crater to the south and pooling there, also like last time. Lava tubes may be fed on the Grindavik side.

In a year from now, in two years from now... what will Iceland be facing? The activity appears be increasing over time. It's very sane not to act before a disaster is perceived, though it may be beneficial to expect the potential that the whole of Iceland's infrastructure will be compromised over time. The tectonic shifts happening could indicate the beginnings of an era where the whole of Iceland could face massive, continually increasing land swelling and magma flows.

It’s not two volcanoes. It’s two spatter cones, which are part of the fissure system.

if you feel brave you can return manually the drone closer to the ground wind there is calmer its what i like to do when i feel that the come back can be difficult also flying over heat air probably doesn't help to energy saving

You have to drive road 43 to Blue Lagoon. Good to buy ticket to BL or book at least a table at Lava Restaurant in BL (you can cancel it once you get through) as there is a checkpoint on road 43. But you can see eruption at the turn to road 43 already from airport highway.

Nothing's getting over run. You had the option to build a spare house nearby but you didn't do it. It's double Your Fault.. You could have built a floating city, but you're too cheap and lazy.
