Like you, I have days of fun saying 'Amaranth'.

It cuts me deep that they don't make this as a doublecut. I vastly prefer the doublecut shape but I love the sound of that neck pickup.

I bought this guitar in April have changed tuners to vintage locking . Tone Rider hot set pickups Stew macdonald low profile bridge switch craft switch all pots and caps and shielded wire . Being a tech for 20+ years it was worth the cost of upgrade to me.

Had ordered an sc-450 but they changed the available date to 9-12 weeks so looked thru Thomann's p90 options. Was leaning towards this sc-special model. Your review helped me decide to make the order change. Cuts me deep...mine arrives today!

I must say, as a owner of a few HBs... not a fan of Roswell pups. They ALWAYS bite too sharply. But hey, to each his own. Even so, it's a great template for tinkering a bit around it.

The bridge's sharp ends cuts me deep maaan....The Musiclily wraparound is a cheap yet worthy upgrade. I agree that the tuners need changing . Also not a fan of glossy necks bat, DAMN, this one is silky smoooooth. Luv it. Pickup heights need adjusting, which can be difficult, but doable. All in all I agree with the review. Great fun guitar for the money

I bought a HB CST24 prs clone ,p90s installed.I have 2 PRS,beautiful instruments but I never tried p90s in 40 year.Guitar was£200 inc customs.I have not put the damn thing down since it arrived.Stuck a set of guyger lockers on it.Its perfect man.I dont know how you did it,but you surely did do it

I have this in white I put a black wrap around bridge on it and locking tuners and it's such a beast now the lower bridge and the fact it resonates more in the wood it's so loud unplugged and is so dark and chunky and punchy when ya plug it in lol no need to tune it down just mess with the volume and tone and can get anything.

I got a great deal on a B-stock from Thomann, changed the botched nut for a graph tech and Chrome Tele style Knobs. I love the fretboard and the neck feels quite good. Great guitar for Fr. 165.- ......🎸🤘🎸

I bought one with only one bridge pickup. I planned to use it as "another one" for my live performances. Unfortunately, for all my obvious love for HB guitars, the sound did not suit me - and it's cuts me deep. My Gibson SG sounded more juicy, rich, sparkling. As a result, I continue to perform with him

Love my HB DC Fat and really do not miss the neck pickup. With a little bit of jiggery pokery with the tone and volume I can get, almost, every tone I need BUT... I wish HB had a DC with two P90s. I am not diggin the "dirty mustard" colour, yes, I know its available in white but one white guitar is enough ;-) So, Cut Me Deepaaaa and rock on!

I have been agonizing about buying their faded Cherry version for about a year. It cuts me deep that I can’t buy one of everything they have to offer but I trying to keep my GAS under control. Great review and demo!

I have one of these, and the neck pickup sounds louder than the bridge. I will try to lift it. It plays beautifully though. Neck is a bit fat compared to my JM and tuners are a bit flimsy, but it’s my favourite guitar at the moment…

Of all of the sub $500 guitars I've owned, this one is my favorite. Better than my Gretsch that was twice the money, and even better than my Harley Benton Fusion T with the EMG Retro Active 70's. The pickups in that Fusion cost the same as the entire SC Special guitar, and the bridge P90 pickup in the SC special is more powerful AND more articulate than the EMG retro active. Not a fan of most of the Roswell pickups, but these P90s are absolutely wild for the price. To me, the sound of the P90 in the $190 SC Special compares directly to Gibson P90s, and that's saying a lot.

Do want! Can't seem to find a dealer in the states so just email Harley Benton. I kind of doubt it is really amaranth. There are 23 species and all but one are in Central America South to Brazil. The one species is in Guerrero Mexico. It's a very hard wood that makes it hard to work with and is expensive. Doesn't sound like something a budget guitar from Indonesia is likely to use. It does cage color from purple to brown in uv light so needs a uv resistant coating to stay purple. I've seen some long bows made from it and they were definately purple, really nice looking wood. Also you don't want to get the dust in your eyes or lungs.

Purple heart fades naturally if you do not seal it so it's all good:)

I have the DC junior with a monty’s dog-ear pickup and it’s a full-on rocker. Wish this was able left handed.

How does one go about hearing in both ears? I have been told that in fact both my ears are working properly but apparently when my body was being created their were a remarkable number of abilities that were either under spec or simply not installed. This apparently included both a low pass & high pass frequency cut, and not installing a nerve from my right ear to my brain! Can you explain to me what I am missing because Music is already i my opinion the zenith of human creativity, and I can't imagine how it can be any better. But apparently according to the reports from this channel it can!! Thank you as ever for bringing Joy to my day, I hope life is treating you and your family well

I have this one. It’s a dirty rockmachine. Clean it sounds rather good, almost tele like. Tuning is rather bad. Also intonation is not perfect. Adjustability is not great with that rap around. But somehow I can bend around it. The sound has character best suitable for punkrock and sleezy hardrock. With distortion and fuzz it gets real dirty. Had black fingers for months due of the black paint on the fretboard. A little bit annoying. But overall it’s a fun git for a good price. Gotta change the Wilkinsons tuners nevertheless.

A great and honest review in every way,...it certainly cut me deep !!! The colour's not too bad but the sounds are awesome. Personally,...i've had no issues whatsoever with any Wilkinson hardware at all,..including trem' bridges on Strat's and i find the tuners to be fantastic. Sometimes i may inject a little bit of grease into Kluson type tuners with the hole in the back but normally,..i find them really smooth in operation and they hold their tuning just the same as top brands. Amaranth,...sounds more like a liqueur to me !!!!!!

these alternative fuzzy sounds fits to the kind of guitar. i´m astonished what you can do with the switch. most of the highspeed demos i don´t like because they sound so changeable but this demo is more creative. This guitar isn´t built for classic rock and i think steve malkmus does like this guitar. it is the copy of the gibson LP Special with an unsimilar pickguard but i like this solution how the P90´s are fitted to the pickguard. the thomann people are bypassing the copyrights in an funny and clever way. I own the copy with the dogear pu. great job guitar geek.

Guitar necks should be like booty; round, wide, smooth and full... At least for the big guys with big hands, because you can't fully engage when it's thin and narrow.

@TheGuitarGeek - how would I set up these P90s? I already own this guitar. I bought it from Thomann, first one I had to ship back because there seemed to be a 3rd fret issue causing a lot of buzz across all strings. But that one sounded so nice! It inspired me to name it "Mellow Yellow" spontaneously. I got the replacement which had no issues beyond needing a bit of neck relief, but damn, are the P90s hot on that one. I have to turn volume way down to get good tones. I doubt a modern guitar maker would actually overwind their P90s like in the PAF days or prior, so some advice on how to set up a P90 well would be great because I think that's the issue here. Not knowing how to set this one up cuts me deep...

It seems that the single-cut horn is cut too sharp and too pointy for it to look closer to a vintage G. This look cuts me deep...Maybe that's why people prefer the double cut? the harley benton double cut's horn is less pointy and more closer to be "correct", if there is such a thing as a guitar being correct.

Second of all, I would much rather pay the Harley Benton price than even the Epiphone (or Gibson) price equivalent. The pickups sound good but could easily be upgraded for some more authentic meatier tones. As for looks, it ticks all of the boxes. It's not like there are droves of uneducated fans who would raise a stink about pickguards and color not being specific to the era.
