Giz! He’s an absolute legend! Been following him since just under 1000 subs on You Tube! Poor little fella spent nigh on 16 years in a cage 😣 But now he’s more than found his voice. Taking Gizmo for a walk could lead to some AWKWARD encounters. If he makes one of his irreverent remarks or some of his unusual sounds, not everyone will believe, "The bird said it!"

Owning an African Gray is almost like a full time job if you want to keep the them happy and active. I’ve had two of them (separate times of course) and I’m not up to owning a third one as I’m getting older. So happy you found Gizmo and were able to give him the loving home he so deserves. Trying to figure out if Bandit is a green cheek with black feathers (never seen that before), he also has the maroon tail, certainly reminds me of a conure with those funny feet, love for water and the way he plays. shiboof, Well that was nice of you, I too googled but looked at green cheeks with color mutations, couldn't find a black one. I had a green cheek, and those eyes with the white rings around them I've only seen in conures and Patagonians. But again this little fellows personality is just like a green cheek. I have a 30+ year old "brother" B&G macaw, and watching him take a shower has always been one of the most happiness-enducing things to me! He just goes crazy, flapping and talking, making no sense at all, but thoroughly enjoying himself.

They are sooo sweet!! Birds are the gold standard of human companionship in my opinion. Consider these similarities between humans and birds: we are born naked and helpless, birds walk on two legs like us, they have a natural affinity for music like us, most can sing, some can dance, some can talk and some of them are so intelligent they can learn. Some know how to catch fish, use tools and can learn about water displacement!

OMG, I'm so in love with parrots/parakeets b/c of their high intellect & bubbly personality. And I esp love that they could speak, which many had the ability to speak. Sadly, I love & miss my beloved budgies, but none of them ever spoke -- they only communicated among their own kind. But thankfully, I understood them well enough to know what it was that they needed or wanted from me the majority of the times, purely by their body language or certain movements they performed to me and/or on how well they strongly expressed their body language to get their point across to me. I esp loved on how well they expressed their love towards me by their multiple kisses & perching on my head & shoulders.❤🦜❤

I met a 14 year old Gray...he would ask people their name, then echo back what you told him. "What is your name?" Gray would ask. "My name is Greg." I would say. "Your name is Greg! Greg! Greg!" while bobbing his head. He didn't do a lot of sound mimicry, but he was very good at imitating voices.
