Two Point Hospital Strategy & Tactics Quick Tip: Getting an Edge from Your Hospital Level

Your hospital level is a double edged sword. Your base patient rate, which is modified by reputation, is controlled by it. Getting more patients means more cures, yes, but only if you can handle it. There is something to be said for keeping it low until you're ready. This tip lets you have the best of both worlds.

FTC: Keys for the DLC were given to me for free from the developer, this does not affect my opinion of the game. I bought the base game with my own money. I appreciate your videos Pinstar. I'm just picking the game back up after a long break (last played like 20 months ago) and your videos have been really handy as refreshers. :) My goals launching into a new campaign are to... (1) Level 20 all the hospitals. (If possible. Lvl 20 Hogsport do-able???) (2) Maintain a satisfying (to me) level of visual realism and aesthetics. (3) Beyond that, refine each hospital to optimize reputation and profits, with no hesitation to demolish and remodel/rebuild in situations like research/mission unlocks, training gains, etc. ... all while avoiding exploits or cheesing as much as possible.

Number of patients is essentially the only difficulty factor in the game, to the point where high number of people (levels 20+) can make success literally impossible because you don't have enough space to build rooms in the hospital. By keeping hospital level artificially low, you can make any level ridiculously easy. The key lesson I've learned in 2000+ hours: it's better to let people wait and even leave than it is to unnecessarily increase the number of people coming into your hospital by building more rooms and getting more staff (and thereby increasing hospital level). Build just enough rooms to accomodate treatment rooms without causing massive bottlenecks. Better to have fewer rooms than to build excessively trying to be more efficient. Concerning prices, the best strategy is to put TREATMENT on 100% and everything else at default. Some will leave without paying and/or be unhappy, but you will make FAR more money to the point where money quickly because a non-issue, and if they leave it's at the end of their stay anyway (so you're not chasing them out before they've had a CHANCE to pay for treatment). Reputation is essentially irrelevant because number of patients (and therefore difficulty) are kept low through artificially low hospital level. Low patients keeps the game easy regardless of any other factor. Thank you Pinstar, love the videos!

The big killers are the clinics. That is where they get you. Every single-disease clinic needs its own room and will goose your hospital level up when you build it and hire staff to maintain it, yet will often sit idle inflating your hospital level and thus patient count without *really* pulling their weight in terms of helping you deal with that increase in patient count. Contrast that to things like the injection room, fracture ward and surgery which handle a wide range of illnesses. Many of the campaign levels mercifully limit the variety of clinic illnesses that appear in any given level so you don't grow too huge, but an all-diseases sandbox won't give you that mercy.

I like to crank my treatment prices to 100% and tank my reputation early on. It keeps my number of visitors down and I can build slow and steady. Eventually, my reputation will start to increase and ultimately max out, even with my treatment prices at 100%. If there's a downside to doing this, I haven't really noticed it.

I've previously advocated for +50% prices but in this map I was doing testing akin to this, 100% treatment from day 1 and in the short timespan of my hospital, I have not had any refuse-to-pays. The gift shop is key to this approach and I might do another tip video on this specific setup. By having no other sources of entertainment for my patients, anyone who is bored will go to the gift shop and not only max out their entertainment need but also get a flat-out boost to their overall happiness level. Where as traditional entertainment objects (Like the arcade machine) merely fill the entertainment need, but don't give a flat boost to happiness. The increase in revenue from 100% prices more than makes up for the salaries of the assistants needed to run the shops.

@@Pinstar I do get refuse-to-pays occasionally, but not enough for me to think it's a bad strategy. It's no speedrun strategy, but it gets the job done. I like the gift shop idea. I'll have to try that.

I can't help but notice that you seem to have changed your Pharmacy and Training Room dispositions quite a bit (no more medicine cabinet in pharmacy but adding a coffee machine and a... massage chair(? I don't have that one yet) positioned far from the machine, no more Encyclopedia in the training room). Is that because you were testing new stuff or did you find those to be more efficient?
@Pinstar

Don't take those as pro tips. I am testing different objects and layouts just in case I stumble upon a refinement. The lack of medicine cabinets was more out of laziness than a shift in strategy, though you can sell them once you have your machines upgraded to level 2 and have a treatment II/Level 3 nurse working there.

Hi! So am I right in thinking you don't bother with hallway benches? Or are these videos just for demonstration of the topic in hand...?

I don't bother with hallway benches in 95% of my hospital. They cause more harm than good. The ONE place I use them is in my surgical centers, where I go into detail as to the why and how about benches. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rNdmpbaj29LLY2Q.html
