In this video, our previously plowed potato plot is rototilled to create a smooth planting surface using a 3 point hitch mounted tiller on the Ford 1700 tractor. After that, a Troy-Bilt Horse tiller with furrower attachment is used to create planting furrows, and we plant 50 pounds of seed potatoes that includes four different varieties: Caribou Russet, Sanger, Purple Viking, and Eva. Rows can be spaced as close as 3ft for the Troy-Bilt to run up and down between them for hilling, but we spaced them at 3.5ft this year so that the tractor could run through the rows without damaging plants as well.
