Best tutorial on neat tidy buttonholes, so thankyou. Ive been knitting about 40 years and think this is great. Abit fiddly but nice neat result in the end and its only a few buttonholes so worth the result

Thank you, I like this kind of video, instructions are clear and to the point without endless unnecessary frustrating, time consuming information. Wonderful, two three stitch button holes made and I'm moving on to compete my work.

I 've been despairing over following a pattern with a buttonhole in the k2 p2 for a baby's cardigan... I now understand a way to do it! this is brilliant, thank you!

Thank you so much. You explained so clearly. Good job. I am much appreciated. You should teach more , like joining yarns.

Thank you ever so much for this video....amazing:) I have a top I have been trying to finish knitting since last year but because I couldn't understand how to create the buttonhole I cast it aside. Now I can finally finally progress with it! Thank you again.

can you use this technique even if a garter stitch pattern is being used?

I really like this! Would you please explain why you stress slipping the stitches knitwise, but then slip purlwise for the last few stitches? I'm wondering if you are slipping stitches opposite of the stitch in the knit fabric. ?? Thanks!

Hi Holly; slipping the stitches knitwise when you're binding off for the buttonhole is just as you would do for an SSK decrease, and it makes for a neat, left-leaning bound off edge. If you slipped those sts purlwise, there would be some twist in the BO stitch when you pulled it over the next stitch, potentially making it look a bit wonky. In all the other places where you're slipping stitches, you do not want to change the orientation of the stitches but just move them from place to place, so just slip purlwise with leading leg in front.

Have a question. In the video, the first time you slip a stitch from left needle to right you slip it knitwise. The second stitch you do it purlwise. Does it matter which way you slip?

herlittleway Did you ever get your question answered? I was wondering the same thing.

Confusing about when you're turning, and why. Also about where the working yarn is, and why it's being carried across the opening to cast on the new stitches.

Try it by following the steps as depicted; it's very straightforward. The yarn position is exactly as described in the tutorial, and the CO is just a purlwise version of the knit-on cast on, as you might use to bridge a gap elsewhere. This cast on is used because it results in actual worked stitches (rather than just flimsy loops like you would get with a backwards loop CO) to close the buttonhole and make it stable.

My knitting says k,casting on 2sts over buttonhole.k3 more rows. How do i do this please show a video or explain im a little stuck here thanx Rose-Maree

It sounds like your pattern already has had you bind off 2 stitches on the previous row? So when you get to that place, you CO 2 replacement stitches and continue. OR you can try the method described in my video, which will give you a tidier overall result.
