My 2018 Sherco 300 two stroke had close to 200 hours on it, and it was time for a top end rebuild. I grabbed a rebuild kit from Sherco a year or two ago in hopes of doing this earlier, but that just didn’t happen. Once we got the top end of the engine apart, we started to find some wear and tear from usage and neglect. What should have been a simple piston, rings, bearings, and gaskets swap out turned into a full blown power valve rebuild. After the power valve function was figured out, and the new parts came in, I was able to get the #twostroke back together.

Huge thanks to Sherco of North Texas and ‪@highlandcycles‬ for their help during this rebuild. I started to get overwhelmed when I realized the power valve actuator was as broken as it was. Having an entire week off of work was also a huge help, as I didn’t feel pressure to have the Sherco back together as soon as possible.
If you have any lessons learned during your dirt bike maintenance, leave them in the comments so we can all get a little bit better.

Thanks! Those 65’s are simple, but finicky. We did a full top end on Liam’s 65. He actually did most of the work.

Great video. Loved the way you presented it...speed through the mundane sections and explain the pertinent sections. The video kept me entertained and watching til the end

As a regular wrencher I cannot stand to see a top end service before all the motor is clean and shiny, so no dirt gets into anything. Try a cleaner burning oil Brian. No carbon creating oil.

Great points Bruce! I thought about that many times while working in and around the engine. When it comes to a “cleaner burning oil”, how do we know it’s cleaner burning?!?! I use Maxima, which has a history of great performance, but do we know if it’s a “not good” burning oil? Keep the feedback coming!!!

@@SeatTime okay low flash point oils and synthetics. Myself I use Amsoil Interceptor and have zero carbon build up on the PV for instance. Morgan did a video on oils to.

@@200xcBruce I just watched his video last night and the mental connection has been made now that you said "low flash point"! I'll have to look up the flashpoint of the Maxima K2.

A buddy of mine dropped a circuit in the bottom of mine when he was helping me once. He swore it fell in the floor even though we couldn’t find it. Well, when the bike was back together and we started it for the first time, we unfortunately found it 😢

OHHHHH NOOOOOO! How much of that bottom end rebuild did he help pay for?

That 3 dollar circlip cost him 500 bucks. Luckily he didn’t put up much of a fight about it, cause I was ready to 😂

@@SeatTime and I don’t think it dropped in the cylinder, I think it somehow got in one of the coolant water jacks because it got wedged between the rings and cylinder, bottom end was still good. But cylinder needed to be sent off to millennium lol

I think it seems like that because of the way the Power Valve and Actuator work. In 2019, they went to a fully electric power valve, and it seems a bit simpler.
