The Chrysanthemum mon is for use by the Japanese Imperial family only. Also, Yakuza factions also have their own mons. The best mon is the one you create yourself.

Can you create your own Kamon and what are the guidelines for designing your own Kamon besides the fact they all seem to be round or circular and symmetrical on at least one axis?

When it comes to Kamon (Japanese crests) I like instead of choosing already made one, I like to *MAKE* them from the name/surname meaning or symbolic.

Shogo san, thank you for mentioning that your family kamon is the Wisteria blossom. Not long ago, I had a dream about living in a place that had many Wisteria trees. :)

couple months ago i went to Osaka castle, playing gacha and get Sanada's Rokumonsen crest pin and i put it on my shirt collar (it looks good i guess). at the night, im hanging out in small izakaya at Kyoto, alone. i forgot im still wearing that pin and a fine japanese with a long coat ask me with low voice "kore wa, kakui (or something like that). are you support it?" and i feel stupid and ask with all my anime knowledge "he? kore, taihen desuka?" and try to remove it. im so scared down to my pants. some minutes later i realized that he's actualy just a nice guy that want to start a conversation with strangers and i spent my whole night chatting with him using japanese, english, and a lot of hand gestures. it's a great experience.😅

Shogosan is there a process to formalize or license or copyright a kamon if it's completely original to protect it? Does it have to be done through any Japanese Kamon Federation? My family kamon that I am in the process of designing will be based in the US. Can you also do an interview with renowned Kamon designer Shoryu Hatoba if possible. That would be excellent!

I'd have to come up with one that unique for my family. Just using one thats pretty "public domain" doesn't seem right.

Question How were the kamon named (generally) For instance some of English names were professions (like turner is maker objects), others might tell us this person was someone's son) Some might just say where they are from The biggest reason I would asking this is because for me the meaning of the name would be just as important for choosing a kamon....if I could find one close to my family name it would be even better

Idk, I wouldn’t use someone else’s existing Kamon. The Oda Family still exists, so why would I use theirs, for instance? I find that disrespectful to do so
