So we all know the typical candidates when it comes to Rolex watches, and I feel despite the growing uncertainty of the world we live in, one of the constants that has persisted is the relative demand for Rolex as it is still quite strong, but the models we have here are two great examples of timepieces that are not maybe seen as collectible or demand insane premiums, but I think that is one of leading aspects of their appeal and why I wanted to cover them with the Rolex Milgauss and Rolex Yacht-Master

The Yacht Master is an amazing piece. Easily one of the best in the Rolex catalog. I’ve owned the blue face model and have worn it regularly for several years now. It never ceases to put a smile on my face when it’s on the wrist.

The blue dial configuration is my favourite Rolex piece ... I love the architecture of the case and how fluid the whole piece wears on the wrist. In my humble opinion The Yacht Master is the cooler and improved version of the Submariner 😅

Two of their most underrated watches. The milgauss is like the brother who went to art school or something. It’s a Rolex, but it’s like indie at the same time. I just really like it.

The green tinted crystal on the Milgauss is stunning and I am advised, very difficult to manufacture. The Yacht-Master 40 is very different in its case shape as compared to other Rolex sports models. Very under-appreciated watches. Thank you, Teddy, for your informative reviews of these models.

Great picks. Yacht master especially cool. Love the red second hand, and that it’s so similar to a sub, but different. A Rolex sports watch that manages to be understated while at the same time being premium. I am sure it’s one of those watches that when it really gets on collectors radars it will suddenly appreciate in value.

just purchased this Yacht Master in 29mm- not much to look at online indeed but when I tried it in person I fell in love- gotten so many compliments wearing it and the 29mm fits my smaller wrist and the platinum bezel and dial is just so premium. And the dial really does shimmer/look different under different lighting conditions. The timer functionality of the bezel is also very useful. I might consider getting another Yacht Master in the same size in Yellow Gold + Steel + Yellow Gold Bezel and White Dial (also at a steal) for interchangeable daily wear because I really appreciate this smaller size and love the style of the Yacht Master (and the timer functionality)

I bought my first luxury watch in 2007 after two years of saving. A Rolex Yacht Master ref. 16622 that you reviewed in this video. I still own the watch and is one of my favorites in my collection. Now I'm planning to give to my wife for our 25th anniversary her own Yacht Master (ref. 169622). Awesome video, keep up the good work Teddy!

Three years ago I purchased my 116622 YachtMaster 40 which is the blue dial model with red seconds hand and lettering. The bracelet has been improved and has easy link adjustment. I adore the watch, and I think it is one of the finest Rolex models in their catalogue. I get lots of favourable comments about the watch, which is very satisfying.

The first Rolex that caught my eye was the YM. It was different looking than the sub and GMT and I never wanted to be walking around with the same watch that most Rolex wearers had. Then I saw the Explorer ll and fell in love. I got my hands on one and I've had it for 20 years! I still may pick up a YM, still a very nice, solid looking watch for the price.

I picked up a Z-Blue Dial milgauss a few weeks ago. They run a bit higher than the black version. A little harder to come by as well. For a more casual look, I'll put a rubber-b strap with the green stripe on it. Very cool 😎. I think the strap with the red stripe would look good on the black dial version.

That Milgauss (with blue dial) is my grail watch. Amazing quality, a crazy look, nice finishing on the bracelet etcetera.. And as an High Voltage engineer, it suits the profession as well. :)

They did release a 116622 (up to 2016 I think) that has the new style clasp and platinum dial. Very nice indeed.

The yacht master is possibly the best rolex sport watch. It's all class and works as a sports and dressy watch. Rolexs top hidden secret for those in the know.

I went to my Rolex dealer this past weekend. I was shown Day dates, and the popular watches, but I like to have different than the norm. I love the Milguis style. I am wearing my Orient Bambino Gen 3 grey dial with a matching grey sweater. I love the dress watch style. The green crystal is very appealing. I was given a Rolex brochure which is a big book. I was told I could order anything and they can get it .

After a couple years of wanting a Milgauss, I got a call from a local AD saying my Milgauss was ready for pick up. Although I'm also waiting for Batman GMT and the new Kermit. This has always been on my list of watches to have. I love reading the comments and seeing the low key admiration for it as it goes unnoticed in the snob filled Miami scene.

Hey Teddy. Firstly - nice jacket. Secondly - it baffles me that the Milgauss is often touted as Rolex's most under appreciated watch. To me it's their most charismatic. The Yacht-Master I get. It looks more like a watch that Rolex's competition would make than a Rolex watch, per sé. I don't dislike it, but I would never buy it. The Milgauss on the other hand would be one of my prime contenders if I was in the market for a Roller.

For me the GV has always been on my radar. I don't mind the lightning bold or the colors, but PCL's however? But if I had to choose between a Milgaus or an Explorer 39, man I'd have a hard time choosing.

My favorite rolex is the under appreciated Air King, specifically, the 14010(m) with arabic numerals. The engine turned bezel and numerals add to its readability, and just looks unique. I like what rolex has done with the newest air king, but I wish they had done it in a smaller (38mm?) size.

I think this is the best Milgauss version to me followed by the polar white dial.... the Zblue is a tad too kinky for me & the black too flat (look just like a DJ non fluted). Great review Teddy..

Never appreciated the blue dial yacht master, or the explorer 2, until I tried them on. The yacht master looks great under bright lights but the bezel is very delicate. Beautiful watches and nice review.

I own the 116622 platinum dial, very similar to its predecessor 16622 albeit with a modern milled clasp, a blue parachrom hairspring, blue chromalight and aligned end links (there are other small differences like the shape of the case, hue of the red lettering and the font of the numerals on the bezel). It's the ideal watch for the days I feel like wearing something understated and refined. I like to call it the classy Sub. I'm a big fan of the monochrome look. The 116622 used to be a bargain too but not anymore, it's come up in price quite a bit. The Milgauss is a playful and funky Rolex piece. I find it fun to look at, but I'm not sure I'd actually want it on my wrist. Cool watch nonetheless.

I'm still thinking of the yachtmaster, but that bezel scares me on the used market. They scratch and when polished its very easy to ruin the sanded inlay area. And I want it to have the newer clasp as well. I should have got one at 6.5k because 8k seems high

Funny thing is that this is 2 of the 3 rolex I ever admire.. except i prefer the yachtmaster rhodium dial.. The last 1 of the 3 is the Skydweller which i don’t have the dough to get it..

The Milgauss and Yacht Master are two of the most underrated Rolex’s. As much as I love Rolex, my next purchase will most likely be a Vacheron Constantine overseas or 1956.

I've owned a YM 16622 for eight years and totally agree with your comment about the difference between photographs and how it looks in the flesh. Subtlety and class, not bling. It seems the more a timepiece 'pops' in photos the more popular it becomes. Does everyone want a watch with a cartoon colour scheme??

The 16622 is stunning and underappreciated. But if you only seen it in pics, it's understandable, as in pics, it can look dull and boring. Only in the right light, that platinum dial pops.

Teddy - Great review of both watches. For me it was love at first site with the 2008 16622 YM ‘Z’ series - hard to photograph well...but absolutely stunning in person! If folks out there are concerned about the clasp on the bracelet ... don’t be. I was too initially, but once on, it really gives you that ‘old school Rolex feel ‘ but on a modern double platinum 40’ Rolex. I also have a 41’ 2018 126300 Datejust (fantastic watch) and it has the newer bracelet . Honestly, even with the extension link features, the newer style seems grips your wrist a bit aggressively, whereas the older style just seems more comfortable IMHO. One more thought about the 16622; while I am so taken with its overall style, I can’t help to think that while latter YMs went in a different style direction with bracelet and dials, it seems to me the 16622 was the inspiration for the 18948 Rolex Masterpeice Day/Date (@ 30k plus) and that whole style in general. In summary, like you said Teddy, I think the 16622 (along with Milgaus and the Explorer II) is/are the best deals out there for a daily modern Rolex with rotating bezel and added clasp lock for security that few consider. Take a chance and rediscover this gem from Rolex!

No one should be concerned about the 16622's bracelet. While it has the older clasp, links are fully solid, including centers.

this is what i've been saying since i got into watches, both the Milgauss and YM were instant loves for me and i was just amazed to see they are pretty much the most affordable Rolexes (along with the Explorer 2 which i also love, these 3 are basically my all time favourites from Rolex). I personally prefer the YM over the Submariner, much more unique. Try to find a Sub alternative and you will find thousands, in all price ranges, try to find a YM alternative, not many of them, right? Great video Teddy!!

Saved money, looked at deep sea, GMT Master 2, Yachtmaster 1, ending up buying Milgauss non GV. Loving it all the way. It's classic, and it has a lot of humor in itself. Loving the mechanism, and loving that it's very rare, infact the 3131 is only in Milgauss and Air king. But most of all, loving the look on people's faces when they realize that it has lighting second's hand.

The Rolex Air King 11690 has the same case and movement as the Rolex Milgauss. The only unusual watch in the Rolex lineup. That's why I love the Air King.
