I think very few people have understood what we are talking about, a Rolex with green sapphire crystal, zirconium laminated dial that recalls the colors of the internal paramagnetic spring (Z Blue version), colors that in natural light give a polarization effect never seen before, and also back engraved. When it goes out of production will Rolex ever do it again? Certainly not. Sure not the usual Rolex appreciated by the most of people but undoubtedly a timepiece destined to redeem itself, probably the high price, close to that of the most popular models, did not favor the sales of this timepiece but when you understand the beauty and uniqueness of this watch, then 7950 euro to buy it will not be enough anymore and everyone will try to own it at any cost.

The Milgauss is definitely NOT overpriced, it's a quirky, yet beautiful Rolex sports watch that is also dressy, will appreciate much more than a regular OP Rolex, and is much more fun

I have the z-blue Milgauss. Love it. Fantastic watch. It was THE first Rolex I ever wanted and I got the call from the AD last month. I have two more I want, but if I never get the call for either, that's fine. I have the one I want the most.

I have an AK. It’s basically a Milgaus, but it doesn’t have all the shinny centre link bling (trade off being a weird dial which is better in person than in photos). Love the curvy case, MG and AK have a lot more wrist presence than an Explorer I.

One thing to consider as well is that it's USP supposedly is the resistance to magnetism but most modern Rolexes already have this which makes the Milgauss obsolete. But as far as collecting is concerned, you're on to something when you say that now is the best time to buy. I for one have my eye on the white dial. ;)

Is that true? I was under the impression that only the Air King had it to the Milgauss level due to the fact that they use the same case. Do most really have that level of anti-magnetism?

Of the 4 variations, I think the white dial would be the most rare and best 'investment'. It's counterintuitive in that it doesn't have the GV crystal, but it's the most sporty and quirky. I still love the z-blue but it feels more like a dressy watch than a sports watch.

I really like the Milgauss! As you pointed out, the fact that soo few people hace it makes it more interesting. The thing is my local AD never has one in stock. Will pull the trigger on this one as soon as its available. Not gonna pay premium on it

I understood this is the only Rolex model which has not been faked as it’s almost impossible to produce that green cristal … if it’s true … this is the piece to have

I bought a brand new GV Black dial Milgauss last week. First Rolex and I absolutely love it. It has character and it’s very unique. Next in line is a Zenith Defy. Another awesome and unique piece.

@@watchesinthewild8276 WOW! I “registered interest” in the Z-Blue dial version with my AD in Q1 of 2022 (when sending in my 36mm 2020 stainless & white gold DateJust on a Jubilee in for servicing). I got the DateJust back in Q2 and, upon collection, was given a heads-up that they expected some stainless tool watches in Q3 of 2022. So, in just about the middle of Aug, I got the call that a Z-Blue had just arrived so I popped in and bought it straight away. I’d say that it was AT MOST a six month wait. What a spectacular watch! It’s SO SHINY… the polishing on the piece is nothing less than superb. I really want to protect it with the watch version of PPF - Paint Protection Film like they use on super cars.

@@Chrono24Official Cellini is a fantastic piece, but way to expensive. I’m not a big fan of the arabics in the air-king. Dial gets a little busy to my taste.

Having never seen the black dial Milgauss in the flesh, when the man said “look I have a milgauss here, to be honest a customer ordered it but decided not to buy it”. “Right” I said with no enthusiasm. “Would you like to look at it?” OK I said, thinking I would move on. He came back with the box and opening it I just went “Wow”. Some things are meant to be.

The Milgauss has come into its own as it’s prices have doubled in the grey and used market. It was between the Milgauss and the Explorer when I bought my last Rolex before the Pandemic. I bought the Explorer. Also a fan of the Explorer 2 which also was very unpopular a few years ago.

I bought my Milgauss with the white face about 10 years ago because I loved everything about it - the classic contemporary styling, the quirky lightning bolt second hand, the weight of it, the history of it etc etc. Personally I have no interest in whether something is popular, fashionable or current trends - I buy what I like... One needs to consider context when considering why something is 'popular'....Marketing pushes "popularity" and hence sales numbers which determines the life cycle of a product...

So, first... love my MG... second... question... Mine has a tactile and slightly audible clicking sound when I manually wind it. Like the gears meshing. I'm asking because my Omega is silent and smooth when I wind it. I have cheaper watches and some of them do the click. Is this normal for Rolex?

I consistently see the Milgauss as an “underrated” watch. When I look at comments I always see people say it’s their favorite. Is this the next Rolex “blow up”?

Just purchased my 2022 Z-Blue last week. I had “registered interest” in it at my AD in Q1 2022 and had it on the wrist by the middle of Q3 2022. It’s such a beautiful piece of kit and, with its polish, has a positively brilliant wrist presence. I’m considering getting the watch equivalent of a car’s Paint Protection Film (PPF) for it.

@@forextrader9110 Hmmm… I’m not sure I’ll agree with you on all of your points. I do agree that the White dial is rare but, if I recall correctly, that iteration omits the green tinted crystal which is really a shame IMO. The rarity will certainly add to it's value but the omission of the GV suffix - again IMO - detracts from my interest in that piece. As for the Z-Blue & GV being "merda", I'll just say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and leave it at that.

1000 Guass protection is not enough in a lab. Go with an Omega that has more than an order of a magnitude higher protection against magnetic field.

It has much more protection than 1000 Gauss, but Rolex prefers to maintain reference to the watch name.

They may discontinue the Milgauss again soon since their new current movements already have some anti-magnetic qualities built in. If they do, values will soar on them.

I think Milgauss and Air King are my favorite Rolex watches, but I agree is overpriced. Actually is hard to imagine a scientist, at least in my country, who can afford a Milgauss. Anyway if I win the 10 K price I’ll certainly buy a Milgauss.

@@mattys1467 well that shows it has at least some demand. It's not a hot model but I still feel that they will give it the gmt /sub/explorer etc treatment in a year or 2 (32 series movement and slight design changes ) rather than killing the line completely.

No doubting it’s a quality piece but I just can’t get past that lightening bolt second hand. That thing would bug me every time I looked at the dial. All this discontinued business and investment potential is just plain boring, man, change the record.

I couldnt wear a submariner, not fully scuba qualified; nor yachtmaster, don’t have that qualification either; nor Daytona, never raced a race car. I am however a scientist, with a fellowship of two academic bodies. So Milgaus is the choice of Rolex that I can genuinely wear. So I should perhaps get 3; green, black & white dial models, so all fashion choices thus covered.

Idk why some are so bothered by the viability of this watch. They seem to consider it outmoded. However, I know of several scientists at my university who work around high magnetic fields every day. I'm sure it's the same at any research focused uni.

Milgauss is a bit bloated looking and feeling on the wrist. It's purpose and design aren't really relevant anymore. It's technically inferior to many cheaper watches with regard to magnetic field protection. Current 70hr Rolex movements do a better job without the cage and without mentioning this gauss super power. This is why they're cheap. The white is cool though.

How anti-magnetic are the "70 hr Rolex movements?" I understand they have anti-magnetic properties, but do we know it's greater than the 3131 movement (ie Milgauss and Air King)? Your point is well taken with less expensive watches having greater magnetic field protection (ie Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra/Railmaster at 15k gauss and the new Oris Calibre 400 at around 3k gauss). Would like to understand how superior the new Rolex movements are... They should mention a "gauss super power" if it is remarkable. It's a relevant feature and selling point.

@@gatsby786 take the 3132 in the Explorer 39mm (reference watchbox video) and all the 3200's for example. They have negated any need for this fattening cage mainly by using the parachrome hairspring. To advertise this anti magnetic prowess would perhaps make the milgauss older design look outdated, obsolete, which it is of course. It's older. I don't see the milgauss being updated, just discontinued. The AirKing however....... Still the Milgauss looks cool. Just wears funny to me.
