It's funny how cultures so far apart have similar approach to string instruments, even in the most extreme techniques. In classical guitar, the movement of downstroking the strings one finger at a time in a lightning fast successive manner is called rasgueado, and used all the time in Flamenco. That percussive, snare-drum-like sound you get when you put a string above the other one, is also used in songs, mainly brazilian folk music.

Fun fact, I did some research. This is a really hard piece requiring some advance techniques. - Sha xian: use your left hand fingernail to scratch the vibrating string. - Jiao xian: push one string underneath an adjacent string so when the pushed string vibrates, it hits the string above, creating rapid metallic clashing sound. - bing xian: push two or three strings together, so they clash with each other. All of the above are used to simulate battle field noises.

I'm glad they tried to learn pipa! I have wanted to watch a classical guitar lesson, but I think an instrument with a plectrum makes more sense. It took me a couple months to hone in on the right shapes for my nails. Each of my nails is slightly different, and I watched many tutorials to find my own personal shapes. They're very different from my teacher's. Even though the idea is to joke around, simply not having the tool available to produce the sound at all would feel unfair.

A gift from the perfect pitch gang: docs.google.com/document/d/12aBb-jI0T8q9QZldUu4wl4bJrQ2Ttt3TNG1R2lo7oug/edit I know it’s not perfect because I might have messed up a rhythm and a couple of chord voicings. Also I’m really new to harmonic analysis so it might not be 100%, but I did my best. Also, it will be less blurry if you open it in the app rather than the browser
