BMC Alpenchallenge AC02 Aluminum Commuter Bike | 2020 First Look

Күн бұрынToday we'll be looking at BMC Switzerland's 2020 Alpenchallenge 02 (AC02) Urban bike full range. Both the AC01 and AC02 are aluminum commuter bikes, but there are a few differences which I point out in the video, including the fender rack mounts, internal/external cable routing, rack mounts, tire width, components, etc.
The 2020 Alpenchallenge 02 comes in 3 different build options / colors, while the AC01 comes in 4 options. Which do you think is the better bike for commuting and why?
I'd also like to hear your comments if you have any experience with the gates carbon belt drive and shimano internal gear system.

Which commuter bike do you prefer, the AC01 or the AC02?

Neither. I think they're expensive for what you get. The 02 with the cables on the outside is a definite no no.

I like the last one with the fender set and internal hub. With hybrid bikes, like mine the bottom bracket is too small for my 24 mile a day commute. (Giant rapid2 now there called the fast road) I have been to the bike shop 3 times since February. With very loud cracking and creaking and coming lose.

The rack and wider tyres, external cables and I’m a big fan of sora. Not sexy but my unbreakable. I would like to try belt and hub, see how it works for commuting

The last one is my favorite out of the set. Fender is a big must for me. Super convenient. It be nice if the color were a bit darker but aside from that, very nice❤️ love u Cruise

I'd get the AC02 belt drive model, fenders but you can add a rack too with decent panniers can make it a really good workhorse bike for all sorts of stuff.

I have the AC02 ONE. I can't be more satisfied with the carbon drive. Just ride and forget about dirty pants, sockets or shoes. I do like the fenders as well, but you have to be careful by turning, your foot could rub the fender. In my case the saddle was really painful , so you might change it. In general I am quite happy with the bike, for commuting it is a good companion, and it looks really bad ass

I like the AC02 better, especially the gray one with fenders, but it would be better if they had it in blue or red. Both are awesome

I do like the look and the internal cable routing of the AC01. But the benefits of the rack mounts and external cables for people who prefer that are just too significant to not go with the 02. And I think I prefer the grey over the sand slightly. But that’s totally personal preference.

Some of the ac amp models have the integrated wires with rear rack.. maybe that'll trickle down to the future AC lineup one day..

Gates carbon belt drive with Alfine sealed gear changer is the one for me. No rust, no squeaks, no black grease tattoos !

That green paint job looks pretty good. I'm guessing the disc brakes are mechanical and not hydraulic? And do these take 700C wheels?

Really hope you do a review of the URS. That is quite a bit more money, but looks to be much faster and compliant with the carbon frame and more room for wider, supple tires. Do you have a price for the URS Three. I am looking at buying in the US or buying in Nagoya. Can you send that?

Any update on the 02 ONE? I am debating between this and the Cube Hyde Race / Editor. It's a shame the BMC has the Nexus hub, I am not sure how it holds up against the Alfine.

Nexus and Alfine are the same inside. How they handle a disc is the difference.

If BMC had some classical steel looking bikes but in modern take then I would be interested. Why alu for a commuter? I have an alu HT MTB converted to a commuter and my love handles are bruised because alu is so harsh and the bike is fitted with 2.2(55mm) tires :P

Of course steel would be great, but I definitely prefer aluminum over carbon for a commuter bike. The ride may be a bit harsher, but the higher durability is worth it (for me at least). The wider tire options should help making it more smooth though ;)

@@TwoWheelCruise Well carbon is a shit material for a commuter as you cant lean it against anything, especially the bike "holders" when you park the bike in when parking in city. I have heard about a new way of manufacturing steel bikes, stamping out steel sheets just and then welding them together just like they do with cars. I cant find the last shown ac02 (grey one) anywhere on the web (only white1, green2, black3). it seems the only ac02 with Shimano Alfine 8 is the white model (02 one). can someone help?

Just recognized that the official BMC catalogue picture is a really mess. the picture shows a snow white bike.. but of course its grey :)

@@kurtkulo The ac02 one comes with a Nexus 8 not an Alfine 8. BMC's web page provides conflicting information.

I like them both but they're like I said before these are my fantasy bikes because I've never be able to afford them I make $500 a week $400 that goes to house food gas bills whatever at least $100 a week 2 spend on my bikes my hobbies so at the end of the month is $400 NFL week 2 months it would take me a lifetime to buy something like that that's why I'm going for the mongoose longtail bike it'll take me a few months to save up the money but I'd never be able to save up enough money to be able to afford one of those it probably be 2027 and then I'll be too old to ride bikes by then
