Texas State Highway 130 (SH 130), also known as the Pickle Parkway, is a highway from Interstate 35 (I-35) in San Antonio along I-410 and I-10 to east of Seguin, then north as tollway from there to I-35 north of Georgetown. SH 130 runs in a 91-mile (146 km) corridor east and south of Austin. The route parallels I-35 and is intended to relieve the Interstate's traffic volume through the San Antonio-Austin corridor by serving as an alternate route.
The highway was developed in response to the tremendous surge in truck traffic on the I-35 corridor brought on by the North American Free Trade Agreement during the late 1990s, especially truck traffic originating from Laredo, where the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) reported 150 trucks entering the United States every hour. A proponent of the highway's development, Capital Area Transportation Coalition, said that congestion along the I-35 corridor is costing businesses more than $194 million a year in higher operating costs and lost productivity.
The 41-mile (66 km) section of the toll road between SH 45 and I-10 has a posted speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h), the highest posted speed limit in the Americas. As of September 2012, the only speed limits in the world higher than this are the 140 km/h (87 mph) limits of Poland, Bulgaria and Abu Dhabi, though some jurisdictions like Germany and Isle of Man have roads without any posted maximum limit.

The only North American motorway with a European style speed limit. Most continental European countries' average speed limit is 130 KPH (81 MPH); some nations, like Poland have a speed limit of 140 KPH (87MPH) on newer stretches of motorway, &, Germany has no limit on rural stretches of the autobahn system.

Plenty of western states have 80 mph speed limits. And in practice, almost everyone drives 80 or more on highways in most places, regardless of the speed limit.

There is a reason more highways don't have higher speed limits and it has nothing to do with safety. By posting a slow limit the cops know everyone will be speeding so they can go out and collect revenue anytime they want. I live in the country so I don't go on the interstate a lot. But even in the country there are many 55mph roads where that limit is far too low and should be 65mph. Hardly anyone actually drives 55mph all the time and I can tell you for sure the cops don't. They are out there doing at least 70 in the 55 zones because they are apparently above the law.

This speed is near the speed of the German(West Germany when I was stationed there), Autobahn highway. Many drivers drove 100mph average speed in 1974, and some drove faster, normally in the inside lanes. The Autobahn was built for fast speeds. I drove on the highway and kept in the right lane because I did not want to drive at 100mph plus. Many drivers run over the speed limit on the interstates at 75 and 80mph.

Drive like Hell. You'll get there. When the Kansas Turnpike was first opened in 1947, it also had an 80 MPH speed limit. It's a mere 75 now.

In fact, this road has the highest speed limit anywhere in the Americas (85 MPH = 137 KM/H) Only 6 countries (that I am aware of) have higher speed limits than the Pickle Parkway. 140 KM/H or 87 MPH: Bulgaria, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Turkey 160 KM/H or 99 MPH: United Arab Emirates Infinity: Germany (the famous Autobahn has NO SPEED LIMIT on some stretches!)

On Long Island in NY, the highway speed limits are either 55 MPH or 50 MPH. The infrastructure is much older and Long Island is very densely populated (7.6 million people). The highways that have a 50 MPH speed limit are the Belt Parkway and the Cross Island Parkway. The others such as the Southern State Parkway and the Meadowbrook Parkway are 55 MPH. The Southern State Parkway can be very dangerous for people who don’t know it because it has so many curves. The Long Island Expressway (LIE, Interstate 495) is the only highway on Long Island that commercial vehicles can use.

Your speed is logged with your toll photo if you didn't know that. It doesn't show up on your bill but it is sent to Texas DPS for possible enforcement later basically you are on a toll road watch list. You are fine if you don't do it in a pattern that is easily predictable or they will have DPS waiting for you, or have an accident on the toll road. If either happen get ready for your dirty laundry to be aired in court all of it.

Most Americans ignore the speed limit anyway. It’s 70 mph speed limit in Iowa interstates but many go 80 mph or so. I remember going 85 mph almost non stop at 80 mph speed limit in Utah on I-80 west of Salt Lake City to Nevada state line.

I wish we had 85 mph speed limit in Ohio because half our highways are 60 mph and 70 mph and nobody in Ohio does the speed limit, 85 mph is the best speed limit or higher because 60 mph is too slow or less on highway in Ohio.

Most highways in texas are the fastest highways in america anyways. Speed limit signs in texas and frankly in most states only apply when you see a cop car and in texas everyone is speeding including the cops so it doesn't matter

Didn’t realize just how wide the medium is on TX 130. Also I will admit I would be a little nerved driving TX 130 between Georgetown and Mustang Ridge considering the bad drivers in our country with an speed limit of 80 MPH through this stretch.

This toll road helps drivers bypass Austin while driving between San Antonio and DFW and vice versa in case of I-35's traffic congestion through Austin. I know *I can't drive 85* in there because this ain't the autobahn (I know I'm referencing I Can't Drive 55, but that's my last sentence to say in this comment.).

Coming from northeast roads there is a significant change of pitch in noise while driving, wouldn’t say it’s “less noisy” than traditional New England paved roads, just different
