This thing is sooooo sick! It’s obviously not for everyone, but I love that TE is innovating and challenging the idea of what a “mixer” should be. They could have easily launched a well-designed portable mixer, but why? That’s such a crowded and boring space to be in. I’m excited to see how people use this and what they’re able to create.

@@iancorbin6844 Yeah, true- you didn’t and of course you are entitled to have an opinion but different just means worse in this case in my view. There is one very simple reason why I think that: the mixer is more basic in functionality compared to a $38 Behringer box and the synth is Volca tier at best. Except they both cost like 20 times less. This coming from a huge TE fan by the way. I mean, it does look well built and they’re definitely pulling off that Apple look in both quality and aesthetic (good thing), but it needs substance too. Just my opinion and the reason why I’ll sit this one out.

A great miss, TE. Beautiful but the synth part is pitiful. FREE ADVICE: Put there a GRANULAR SYNTH that you can control with the sliders changing the position and density of the grains. Of course, cut the price. And hire me, or someone else who HAS EARS and knows about MUSIC!

@@Phoenix_2A Yes, I do own one and I love it! It is low resolution and doesn't offer multiple grains, which is not a problem but leaves room for a lot more (hence the success of the Nanobox granular). Does it have onboard storage memory and if yes, is there a chance we might see a future firmware update to include audio recording (something like the OP1 album track) ?- even if it's just to cover one/two songs. Multi track recording would be fantastic, but mix out will also be useful... portability being a key factor with the product, this would make a lot of sense to record my pocket operators/op1 on the sofa... tethering an ipad or a recorded on the end of it will kill the portability element for me... if it doesn't have it's own memory, then perhaps a USB stick might be possible?

I love op-z and i really want to love this, but i can't and frankly don't want to afford this. Mixer should be a mixer and maybe an EQ. A thing like a groovebox can and should have all the bleepy-bloopies. There are already 2 great grooveboxes and ton of PO's in TE lineup. Besides, there are already dirt-cheap 4in1out 3.5 TRS mixers, and despite being passive they work rather well.
@athosbacchiocchi
@athosbacchiocchi 2 жыл бұрын
Thing is, I don't think it would be cheaper without the additional "crazy" functions like the synth. I reckon most of the cost comes from hardware anywyay, once you have that in place, adding one more software function doesn't have the same impact on price.
@BoopyTheFox
@BoopyTheFox 2 жыл бұрын
@@athosbacchiocchi Development costs are real. It would take time to make something as unusual as this, and it needs to get paid. But yeah, i reckon that most of it is still about hardware. I'm curious what would come out of TE's sleeve if they give themselves a task to make an affordable mixer. Because they can definitely make great cheap (relatively) devices - PO's and OP-Z. And yes, even though OP-Z is not cheap at all, without modules it is relatively inexpensive for the whole package.

Is it possible to split a pocket operator stereo audio/sync signal using this mixer and send out just the sync via the cue/aux outs to another pocket operator which feeds its audio to another mixer channel? This way we can capture 2 synced pocket operator audio signals in the unit.. perhaps the TX6 has it's own sync signal that it can feed to pocket operators from one it's channels considering it already has a sequencer built in? These are the kind of additional TE features that i'd like to see to somehow justify the cost, otherwise once we stick an iPad on the end of it we can get all the features with a cheaper interface like TC Helicon Blender and software: high quality eq, effects, routing, synths etc

I think you would sell a lot of these in this basic form factor, and at this price, if you aimed to make it work extremely well as a control surface for a "DAW on the run", and having great software integration with the control protocols (and LED indicators on the encoders and motorized faders would further help that role.) Editing music on a DAW on a laptop has real problems with the UI, and your beautifully crafted little box could make that experience much better, ANYWHERE, even on the sofa, and even on an airplane.... Having the built in synths would make the whole thing even more attractive, and being able to plug in my ipad. phone, and a microphone as sound sources would be just amazing in so small a box on the tray table of the plane, as a sophisticated "sketch pad" for musical ideas. I think a lot of people would be interested in something like that, especially something that was of premium build quality like this appears to be. You could potentially bring it with you to work in other people's studio's too - kind of like bringing your own preferred keyboard and mouse. (I think it is too small, limited and "menu divey" to work as good portable recording setup for live performances (phantom power?), I'm better off buying a dedicated multitrack recorder, or digital mixer/recorder, or just get a typical multitrack interface, and use my portable computer/ipad, especially since these can be cheaper. )

Maybe it's there on the underside with the thermometer, roadside hazzard flashers, and air compressor.

looks cool!! yet can't afford. I was considering to buy OP-1 once yet I didn't because most of things in there are already available in most DAWs. DAWLESS wise I go for eurorack world.. that's already making my wallet empty

I wish teenage engineering would create a Pocket Operator Hub that had MIDI in, 5x mini jack in, 5x mini jack sync signal out, mini jack headphone out, proper jack out, a mini 8 button keyboard with low velocity, 8 buttons with high velocity, MIDI sync out and a way to select tempo and swing. All at a price somewhere from $80 to $130. Bonus points if one could attach wires to the back side of the pocket operators and control them over MIDI somehow. Would something along these lines be possible to create at that price point?

$1200 is actually a very fair price considering what you get. You are getting a high-quality mixer, interface, effects box, synth + more. AND ITS BATTERY POWERED AND PORTABLE. Buying a decent mixer + a TWELVE CHANNEL audio interface alone would easily cost you much much more than $1200… plus, those items take up a lot of desk real estate. That goes for all of their products. They cram so much in a tight space without it feeling cumbersome/ hard to understand. If this this sounds great, it will be a game changer.
@rorz999

It's a good product but to say you can't get another 12 channel mixer + audio interface for the same price is disingenuous. You can get them for about half the price, granted they aren't going to be this small, not even close, but then this mixer is a little too small for me (and I actually prefer smaller gear, on the whole)

Abs. ridiculous ..TE is a designing company NOT a specialsed audio manufacturer . I wouldn't be suprised the signal path is inferior , just like their dsp algo's on the op-1 ..which were pretty undery daft

even an iphone with $50 dollars worth of daws and auv3 instruments and fx plugins will eat all their products alive, because basically all their projects are a midi controller build around an app, the funny thing is that some people will pay the $1.100 for it 🤣

@@SLPGroundSoundMusic you're not wrong, but I still love TE. I love the feeling of creating music with their devices and I love their unique workflows. you can build such unique ideas with them in such a short amount of time and i love that! no doubt you can just find a decent app on your phone and make music. but they make fun products that have helped me come up with compositions I wouldn't have otherwise through a DAW. and I am not saying it isn't possible to come up with an idea that is similar or the same without TE gear! I just have fun whenever I use my POs or my op-z. they're also visually appealing! (which is not important at all but I like the way they look)

Does it come with a free magnifying glass to see that screen? I mean...I know TAE has a fetish for small things, this is just too much. It sacrifices too much in usability in exchange for being pocket sized.

They obviously didn’t even consider looking at the combined price and function of the black and blue 1010’s when they came up with their price point. Disconnected. Must be purely a niche aesthetic power play. Let’s see if the market will weed this out. If not, then we know where the market is obscured and look away into a different direction. In this case, what they don’t know can’t hurt you. Pretend they don’t exist and not engage at all with this particular product. TE will get the message eventually.
