I always charge liquid through hi side when breaking vacuum. Scrolls have checks that restrict liquid from back feeding and slugging. Also, 201oz is 12.5lbs not 12lbs 5oz it’s actually 12lbs 9 oz. Good vid man… keep getting that money.

Hey Josh, the refrigerant scales should be removed from the case while in use. The tabs inside the case that support it during transport will hold the weight off the scale and give you a wrong reading. You can close the case and set it on top of it for a level surface. Great videos. Looking forward to more. Thanks.

I would have just pumped it down and changed the dryer. The problem with the TXV is probably the power head, which 90 percent of the time is the problem. I guess you don’t know who has been working on it in the past, but a new dryer one size larger would catch any contamination. All that liquid refrigerant should not have been dumped into the low side. It will make the oil foam, and cause a lack of, lubrication just like a flooded start. I always charge liquid thru the high side liquid line port, so it will flash off before it enters the compressor. That delta T across the coil is low, unless you have a ton of humidity in the building. The suction line should be 1 1/8”, for a 5 ton unit. Common mistake installers make. How much do you charge per pound for refrigerant? This is all just my opinion. Every one has their own way. Good video.
@themrmoy40 Жыл бұрын
90% of the time is the power head? how do you determine that? Also, pump it down, say what. What about if the refrigerant is contaminated because the last guy used some from his recovery tank , instead of using virgin. A larger dryer would catch any contaminants, I will try that next time.

Should’ve charged through liquid line. Sometimes it can flood the compressor.

A 15 degree delta t is not good. Lol on a 73 to 75 degree day it should be more like 20 degree delta t! Especially with 410A something is off about this? Did you verify the indoor coil size matches the unit tons? The superheat is good but still seems like its underfeeding or their is an airflow issue. Like dirty coil or undersized return maybe...... I always shoot for 20 degree delta t but with a low heat load that should be easily achievable! Especially on a 5 tons unit
@jasonsherrill7292 жыл бұрын
Most likely because blower motor was set to high speed.
@smacleod692 жыл бұрын
The return is wrong and he missed it. On a 5 ton blower, its needs to be pulling in from both sides or sitting on a box pulling from the bottom. I know he has the wrong readings.

@rodgraff1782 Жыл бұрын
@@smacleod69 Low air flow from the bad return will make the delta T higher. The delta T varies with how much latent heat ( humidity) is in the return air, and can vary from 16 to 26 degrees. He might have too much airflow, or a lot of humidity in the building. I wait at least 1/2 hour to let TXVs settle out.
@smacleod69 Жыл бұрын
@@rodgraff1782 I don't think he had to much air flow. Reason being, if the static pressure reads high, above 1.0 inwc, which I believe it is, and that is a psc motor, the cfm would be less than 2,000 cfm, for which the 5 ton needs. The cfm maybe more like 1,700 cfm or lower. And that would cause false readings on the txv.

How do you call the connector to your vacuum?
@smacleod692 жыл бұрын
15 degree delta t is too low. Did you have to go back and add in more refrigerant? Plus, the return needs to be fixed. You might going back out on bad compressor. This wasn't well checked.
