If you bend a tube, it's probably good to do it slowly. I know time is of the essence for service calls/installs, but we're talking 1s vs 15s. Just bend to not overtax the tubing. A fast bend will cause cracks with metal fatigue. Give the metal time to sink into it's bent form. Seems weird, but this may have been the situation. In addition, you have to ask, would you get the service call if the install was not done perfectly? No. So are they milking it industry wide? Curious. Early install problems result in more work later. Is it the best practice? I'm not sure. This is ethics 101.

It’s easier for me to learn things with a system that makes sense. 1,2 - Fan. 3 Herm. 4 is C. That becomes F, H , C. You can make up a mnemonic or cute little ditty if you want till you get some experience with it.

That was the problem with my setup. Mine was purposely "mismatched" as in 3.5T coil and condenser and 4 ton AH. Only got a 13 delta T at best. I switched the black wire (high speed) to the blue wire (med-high speed) and the delta T went up to around 17. Mine is a piston, not a TXV. At least it's removing humidity now!

I watched this video because i thought I had the same problem. It all started with a hissing (rushing) sound near the piston that would come and go as the unit ran. I'm an auto mechanic so the first thing I thought was low refrigerant charge because that is what some car systems do when low. I checked every inch of the system and no leak. The unit had ran fine since it was installed 10 years prior. A couple of years ago during a storm we lost one leg of our power and the condensing unit was making a horrible growl so I turned it off until power was restored. This was the clue I needed. One morning the condensing unit started the growl, no storm or power outage. I turned it off. Hooked up some gauges and they were fluctuating just like in this video. So I thought clogged piston. The piston size was written on the case with the bag taped to the unit as well. An it matched the Goodman chart. I checked power across the contactor and had 112v on one side, 83v on the other and 120v and 120v coming in. I removed the contactor and sure enough the contacts were cooked. Luckily there is an AC supplier close by and I bought a new contactor and capacitor. Pressures are now stable and no more hissing sound. I was surprised,

Let's be honest though, that wasn't going to change anything. Nice video of the labor involved, but some 52 year old is going to think this will fix his leaky system

How does a sticking contactor cause their blower to stay running though?
@Floridaman457
@Floridaman457 6 күн бұрын
This is one of the first things they teach you when you start as a helper . It’s called having pitted contacts. Check for ants. check/tighten high and low voltage connections. Check amp draw, start and run caps, ref levels, etc. could be running hard for extended periods also. There’s a reason “usually”. A Preventative maintenance check covers checking contactor for pitting.

Not true. I’ve been doing this for 25 years and just today saw a cap with 3 on common and 3 on herm. Yes 99/100 will be 4 C/3 Herm. But don’t say every universally across the board common always has 4. Not sure why some of you hvac “tech” KZfaqrs give advice that simply is not true. Maybe because you read it in a book? You need more field experience kiddo

This is helpful, but the component that is really filthy that I'd like to know how to clean is the coil, just above the fan.

Was having an issue with my heat pump air conditioner after checking just about everything I figured I have a bad TXV valve I was unable to get the low suction line pressure where it needed to be. I thought it needed more Freon. I tried running the heat pump for 15 minutes and sure enough the suction line pressure was back to where it should be. What I don’t understand is this unit is about 10 years old and we definitely run the heat pump in the winter , Why do you think the TXV valve is acting up and why does running it backwards? Make it work again?

And if all three terminals do have 4 connections, the terminal that is wired directly to the contactor is always going to be the common. Then from there trace your other two wires down. One will go to the fan and one will go to the compressor. Easy pezzie.

You know….. This TXV n 410A Have caused more problems n forced homeowners to spend more money…. Pain and frustration. Of course it keeps field technicians busy…but not all technicians have adequate knowledge of how to address n fix it…. Specially in sunbelt area it’s not easy to work in hot 100+ attic. To a point it’s not worth it!

I live in a modular home with a counter-flow furnace in a closure. I started this because it said I had a limit switch issue. One of the other issues is a dirty coil above the burner. I have a dirty coil! How do I access and clean the blower and coil? Help!
