You know, I didn't like the vocals at all my first time listening to this song. But then I realized that parts of this song got stuck in my head and it's really starting to grow on me. A similar thing happened to me with the Epoch album. I didn't like the new sound he was trying to achieve with that album but then it really started to grow on me over time and became one of my favorites and I feel the same is happening here for me. One love, you're all awesome and life is a gem

I may be the black sheep here, but I really dig this one with the vocals. Even if it's different indeed, I really like how it sounds. I don't think the voice overshadows the beat, instead the fact that the instrumental is very well crafted adds value to the song.

Props for trying something different (and for including the instrumental on Spotify). It took me a few listens to get into, but I really like it now. I think the vocal pauses fit really well with the beat drops, and the instrumental parts still shine through - the bass sounds especially good with headphones on. Definitely getting a Lusine / Odesza vibe off this. It's good that you're trying something new... don't listen to the haters! Nobody wants the same album over and over!

When someone makes an effort to shift; to change; let us hold space for that shift to arrive. YES! We LOVE TYCHO and YES they have as far as I know always been instrumental...So before you judge CONSIDER the power of the love that was felt to completely change everything that was before. It's probably overwhelming and fragile...Hold space for Tycho and for the amazing HANNAH COTTRELL! :D to evolve and grow in deeper love and unity with themselves each other and all beings. If they made the song, they love the song...support their love if you love them...don't hurt them, and scare them so they don't keep growing...I LOVE THIS SONG! Her beautiful voice vs. her warrior frame! it's haunting...let them be in love...I am in love with this tuuuuuune.. :D

It's incredible how two sides of it - one instrumental, one with vocals - can be so different and so pretty, coming from the same place. But after going through all these comments, I think I've got something to say: If you've been listening to Tycho for years and you're the kind of person who will only listen to the original versions from the main release, then good for you, because it's absolutely beautiful. It's always sweet to find people who've felt his music on so many levels... …and yet, that's only one side of his artistic production. There's so much more. For years, his visuals, his collabs with other artists, his sets, his remixes and more have been part of his vision and project. And if you've been ignoring all that, I'm afraid you're missing out. I remember this particular moment, when I first heard his remix of Maggie Roger's 'Alaska', next to Beacon's take on 'See' -I really wished he'd make more songs like those. The lyrics and music in those two tracks were magnetic. They felt meant to be. Not for a second do I intent to force people into liking the new stuff. We're all different, and we should be. But I don't think it's fair to say that he's "leaving his essence behind" because that statement couldn't be further from the facts. I came across Tycho many years ago, thanks to someone who, a little later, walked out of my life. Ever since, nothing's ever been the same. I've forgiven others. I've made big changes. I've discovered abilities I never thought I could have... ..I've loved hard, and I've been loved truly and deeply in return. I've grown so much. And I'm thankful for everything that was and everything that will be. That's how this new path Tycho is taking feels. It feels like growing, changing and doing things you've always wanted. I'm honestly just so happy he put out new music. I didn't know how much I needed it. It brightened my day, it made me dance, and I can't wait to listen to the rest of Weather. Thank you for existing, Scott Hansen 💖

After going through the comments section, the general consensus is - "the vocals don't fit", "with vocals it's sounding generic", "I have seen producers doing this" etc. Initially, I was of the same opinion. But when I heard the instrumental version of Pink and Blue, this vocal version makes perfect sense. See, Tycho has been making instrumental music for the past 5 albums. But, for the artist it becomes a stale endeavour to create a specific type of music consecutively for this long. I loved the instrumental version of Pink and Blue, don't get me wrong, but it gives me a sense that Scott really wants to change things up. This vocal version is a welcome change. It has a pace, mood, setting. She sounds really good and fits right in Tycho's sound. Cannot imagine anyone else singing over Tycho's music as of now. Sometimes, we need both sides of the same coin to understand either one of them.

I respect that your trying new things, I'm not used to your music having vocals. I'm used to albums like Dive, Awake...etc. But once I listen to this more and more I'll start to get used to it ,and i'll begin to enjoy it a lot more. Your music is amazing Scott!

Tony Nur Rahman I think this comment is spot on. Nowadays a lot of labels have a final say (keep in mind that this isn’t released by Ghostly) and I’m kind of suspecting that this generic song is calculated to reach a broader mass. Absolutely no hate towards Scott and I really respect that an artist develops but this has just taken all magic surrounding Tycho. Superglad there is an instrumental version and you can really hear that these vocals undermine Scotts music.

@@eliasshebo Oh you're right. I didn't even realize about the label thing. I'm so used to 'imagining' the lead/synth/whatever those sounds are AS the vocals then when I listen to this I feel like the real vocal is not 'allowing' me to do that. The real vocal here's just like "Heeey I'm in front of you so listen to me instead!". It's such a funny, weird feeling.

This was the first and only song I liked in the album at first, but then after listening to Saint Sinner and Tycho perform together live, I enjoyed more songs. Plus Hannah is hot and has a very angelic voice so I'm cool with this new part of Tycho! Of course I'm always for their music without vocals, but regardless I'm glad to be able to enjoy their music and see them in person.

So much hate from the comments and I'll admit the vocals are a surprise and throwing me off a bit, but I was a bit thrown by Epoch too and now I love it. After listening to the instrumental version of this, I can say that without the vocals, it feels incomplete. This is exactly how this song should be. (Edit: it's good either way, this version just seems more complete to me.) If you listen to this and just immediately hate on it, you aren't really much of a fan. At the very least, listen to both versions and give it a chance. If you still don't like it, then don't listen and don't hate on it or on Tycho. Just let the music go where it needs to go and go listen to what you enjoy.

But it grew on me. Then I go to see Tycho live and it all made sense. Maybe this will be like that. Just let it sink in you know? And maybe check it out live if possible :)

Tycho's statement : With each Tycho album, my goal has been to evolve and broaden the sound. Once I was beyond SCIENCE OF PATTERNS (2002) and PAST IS PROLOGUE (2006), two primarily electronic solo efforts, I began incorporating more organic sounds and instrumentation. DIVE (2011) saw the addition of guitar and bass guitar while AWAKE (2014) took it a step further with guitars pushed to the forefront and the use of live drum performances for the first time. EPOCH(2016) honed that sound further balancing the electronic and organic components that defined Tycho. When setting out to record WEATHER I wanted to finally fulfill what had been a vision of mine since the beginning: to incorporate the most organic instrument of all, the human voice. While developing the initial concepts, I met Hannah Cottrell, aka Saint Sinner, and the vocal component of the album immediately came into focus. Our initial sessions were incredibly productive and I strongly identified with the imagery in her lyrics. Her vision folded effortlessly into mine and her voice integrated seamlessly into the sonic landscape opening new spaces for me as a songwriter and producer. It has been inspiring working with Hannah’s voice and hearing Tycho evolve into something that I had always hoped it someday would. My philosophy in life is that when you see a path clearly laid out you must follow it to see where it leads. As an artist you have to continuously challenge yourself and evolve to make genuine artistic statements. Looking back it’s clear that every step of the past 18 years has lead to this moment and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
