I've been tying for almost 20 years and still can't make it look as easy and beautiful as you do, Davie! Your years of practice are evident!

Thank you for another excellent tying lesson. 1) If you add a small chartreuse butt, it imitates a female caddis with an egg sac. Trout will target the egg sac. 2) If you trim the underside of the hackle flat, the fly will sit steady on the water. It won't roll around as much.

Cree hackles are SO rare (perfect for Parachute Adams btw) I’ve been trying to find one forever and no luck. Thankfully Whiting does a Barred Dark Ginger that is close, but nothing beats actual Cree!!

Davie - why do you push that deer hair wing down do you want that wing sticking up to mimic a fluttering caddis?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 3 жыл бұрын
Hi wyomingtrout, I just like the wing to sit low close to the body which is more like an adult caddis, although once you start to fish the fly it will open out giving a good impression of a fluttering caddis.. All the very best Davie..

Question Dave I have hooks that are bent like a curve at the end of the hook. Are these hooks good to use for tying dry flies?

Hi Mike, It sounds like they may be offset and would probably be ok to use.. All the very best Davie

Could you tye a Griffiths gnat variation with one of those cree hackles?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Morning Jay, It would be worth tying a few Griffiths gnats with the cree hackle, I tyed a cow dung pattern many years ago like this with both hackles and it worked a treat.....Stay safe and well.. All the very best Davie..

Why do you wrap thin wire on the body? Wouldn’t that make the fly sink?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, In a fly like this the wire will not make any difference to the weight of the fly, it may do in smaller flies and lighter dressed patterns though.. All the very best Davie
