Through one of the most vulnerable hip-hop albums released in the 2010s, 2017’s Flower Boy was a project that would change the entire scope of Tyler’s career. This album is jazzier, more relaxing, and more vulnerable compared to any other piece of work Tyler had put out prior. I pre-ordered this album on iTunes and it released while I was in the car with my mom on the way to Disneyland. I hate Disneyland but I love my mom so much and it was the last time we really spent extended time together and I always had a headphone in with this album on loop the whole trip. I purposely only listen to it like once a year partly because it's so emotional that crying is inevitable and also because I'd love to maintain it's personal meaning rather than just remembering it as "the album I listen to in my room or at work". Idk why I'm typing this much. Hope you're doing well!

The more I listen to this album, the more it resonates with me. More than any other Tyler album. I been in this state of having friends and family, but still I feel alone with my thoughts. I want to be genuine, but I fear the rejection from my social circles and family for being honest with what I'm feeling. Such a great album. Gives me the energy to keep striving for bigger and better things

STOP 👏 SAYING 👏 TYLER’S 👏 EARLY 👏 WORK 👏 WASN’T 👏 VULNERABLE. Like they haven’t listened to Nightmare or Inglorious or Golden or Parade. Actually LISTENED. GOD, it’s maddening lol. Or Goblin intro, or Bastard intro, or Window, or Pigs Fly. It wasn’t just a few songs, Tyler’s music was overall extremely confessional and personal and revealing in tone.

Actually it was him putting up a front, such as the violent homophobia and “fuck everything” attitude. It was vulnerable but nowhere near as vulnerable as his more recent projects

@@TechnicalDifficulties I mean, his music was homophobic in some ways but i think he also made it pretty clear even at the time that he didn’t have a problem with gay people, to people who were really paying attention. It was more about being able to say whatever you want and not feeling restrained by society. I don’t think that “fuck everybody” attitude is a front, I think it’s a genuine desire to be yourself in a world that demands you to conform in a number of ways. cool & thoughtful response btw, i didn’t expect one. he definitely was the most vulnerable in Flower Boy when it comes to his sexuality in specific, which is obviously a big deal for him. But I also think he has a much less emotive and frank delivery in general. Flowerboy’s emotional and lyrical themes take some more digging, in some ways they’re pretty obscured rather than vulnerable
