I put in a solid 18 months before my first jig bite. Now I don't go out without one tied on. Fishing heavily pressured ponds can leave you skunked for long durations of time. But persistence finally yielded some confidence. Keep on keeping on. ✌🏾

Whew! You covered a ton of material, fast. If I had the opportunity, I'd vote you a national bass fishing education treasure. I'm getting close to the end of my fishing trips; your seminar has inspired me to spend some of the time I have left learning how to use a jig. Thanks. I suppose I should invest in a new rod and reel. As I look back, the only time I used a jig was as a teenager, cane pole jigging the edge of tules the week before going back to school in the fall.

You don't need to get too technical keep pauses and retrieves simple. Use 4 casts if no bites move. Start with fast retrieve pause 3 to 5 seconds. If no bites try moderate retrieve 7 to 10 seconds pause. Then slow retrieve 12 to 15 seconds pause. Add occasional pops and rod tip raises 2 to 3 times during retrieves. Also, pause 1 second, then retrieve no more than 4 seconds increments, then pause 1 second. Add an occasional pop to rod or rod tip raise. You can do this with all different types of jigs. 😊

I've been trying to experiment on color differences with a bladed/vibrating jig. What's your opinion on a red craw bladed jig with the Keitech paddle tail Houdini color? The keitech swim bait I'm referring to has a clear-ish bottom with silver, gold, and black flake, topped with a green pumpkin top with red, gold, and black flake. My lake is typically stained with rock bottom or straight bare with very few in-between brush piles.

I like a little bit more of a hop like a craw dad? I guess it comes down to preferences. I do like to swim a jig at night. If you're into night fishing.

Brother, if you hold the bass by the jaw like that there is a good chance it will break or dislocate its jaw, making it unable to feed and eventually die. Either support its body weight if you hold it horizontal or just hold it by the jaw and keep it vertical.

I've talked to fisheries biologists about this. Unless it's WILDLY bent, the fish is fine

Aside from all the FFS chatter, the thing that stuck out to me was Tyler Williams fishing jigs exclusively. Keep it simple stupid at its finest. As a kayak angler I don’t have the ability or desire to carry an entire bait shop with me in my boat so simple is what works for me.

I imagine your house and vehicle is as spotless and organized as your boat? Lmao You got 2 or 3 rods on deck and all that space! I have 9 rods and shit everywhere. Especially half way into the day. I need to take notes of that. Great content by the way! Stuff like breaking down the retrieve like you did here is something most “KZfaqrs” miss and maybe assume most people know already but that’s the question a lot of us ask that can’t get a definitive answer. Appreciate your hard work!

Hi Tyler, thank you for your videos. I am new to fishing and I watched a lot of your videos. That really helped. I have a newbie question. I bought an ugly stik elite medium power 7’ rod. It’s fast-action and it handles 6-12 pound lines. The sales person at Cabela’s put a 20 pound braided line on it. I noticed that each time after I cast the rod, using either Texas rig, spinner bait, etc., the line was always slacking. I reeled it in but as soon as I stopped, the line was slacking again! Should I change it to 15# line, or add more weight, or buy a better rod and reel? Could you please give me some advice, or if you have addressed this in your previous video could you please put a link? Thank you so much! p.s, I fished 3 times so far, once at a local pond, once at white rock lake and once at grapevine lake and the only thing I caught was air. I am disappointed but I am determined to catch a bass! But to my credit, at the lakes both times were in windy conditions and I had a hard time just to control my kayak to stay still, lol.

Hmm, slack line will happen no matter what type of line you use. I would recommend throwing reaction baits when it’s windy, and especially the next two months throw weightless or 1/8oz weighted Texas rigs

Thank you for your quick response! Much appreciated and I will give them a try. BTW, do you know if there’s any trustworthy fishing instructor/lessons available in the DFW area? I think in-person instructions will be worthy so that people can see and point out the mistakes that I could be making.
