Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzfaq.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Wow just seeing this out of the box kzfaq.infoUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Really great info man. Awesome stuff. My friend laughed at me when I brought my 6’’6 Daiwa Med fast action spinning rod with and Ardent bolt 2000reel, bassin with a 1/4 ounce bullet head weight, pinned, with a 3/O worm hook and pink 4 inch twirl tail I wouldn’t be able to hang. Today we caught a three pounder and a 4.8 and a 3.7 all on the same worm and never having to change up. Truly if you understand your equipment you can really start to hook up on those big girls!

When I started bass fishing I fished thick cover like lillypads and grass mats with a medium action spinning rod with a 4000 size Pfluger president and 50 lb braid and that worked fine for me, granted getting fish out was a bit harder, but if you know what you're doing you can do just about anything with a spinning rod

Tyler, you’re an educator! Your “handle” should be “The Professor.” I’m returning to fishing after years off due to my job. In a fit of irony, my return to fishing is from the symptom of why I departed; time and sanity. I now clearly understand how very little I know about bass fishing! That’s a powerful thing to understand. You’re clearly one of the most intelligent and experienced KZfaq Anglers. As now my trusted professor, I’ve binge watched most of your videos and Lew’s is certainly the beneficiary of your quality videos as I’ve recently spent a small fortune. They’re certainly smart for sponsoring you! Brother, I think you need one of 2 things. Either 1, you need a “cube chart” that can help us match conditions (season, open water vs grass, water temp, weather), to bait to match line, rod, and reel combos. Or, second, and what I recommend - and Lew’s would be smart to pay for this- you need an App of your own that Anglers can go through a series of “if - then” questions to vector then into the chart you’d need anyway from the first to make that happen. You can patent this ($$$). Since I downloaded BassForecast at your recommendation, maybe matching up with them, since they’ve got the conditions. Maybe an option in the app is they build their profile and input their rod, reel, and line combos and the output is the bait based on the conditions I previously stated. Sponsors brands can sponsor that ($$$). PS. Great proposal video. I don’t know how or why the heck I got sucked into that video but after binge watching everything I felt I not only knew you but owed it to you! Keep it up! Life is good! You got a great thing going! Bright skies ahead for you!

Awesome! The double uni is what I lost yesterday but it was one of those that I should have just retied... My thoughts on keeping fish from jumping is to turn the rod so that it runs parallel to the water and keep my tip down. Not sure if that does anything just something I do.

In my experience bass anglin i noticed that the spinning reel is ideal in flight in moment sight fishing wheras baitcasters are definitely the ideal bass rod for overall bass fishing. The reason being that spinning reels always make a slack in the line after casting. I hate that. Also sometimes if youre not careful and cast hard not moving your finger in time you could snap your lure off. Bye bye $8+. Another big issue with spinning reels is line coiling upon casting which makes the cast inefficient. In order to maximize efficiency with the spinning reel is you need to use braid which requires a fluorocarbon leader because braid is visible. That means a big dent in the persons wallet. A baitcaster with monofilament takes care of all those issues. 1 picks up line quick and no slack. 2 no pressure on line to cast the lure. 3 long distance efficient casts. You can get so profficient with the baitcaster you dont have to thumb it. I never do. Hopefully these tips opened the eyes to some anglers out there. God bless.

I think the underlying theme here is choosing the right rod/reel to make sure you can 1) tell when you have a bite and 2) land the fish. Anyone that has fished a jig on a spinning rod back before they ever bought their first bait caster I'm sure can attest to that! Thanks man - good info to share

I have found the most versatile set up needed ...2 rods a EDIT a 7' medium heavy baitcaster 6.6:1 inception and a 6'6" medium light spinning rod with a decent reel...this is all I need for anything and everything ((but I'm a bank fisherman sometimes kayak)) Now the problem does come when my baitcaster is stuck w 20 lb flouro and I wish it was 14 and vice versa w the spinning rod I want 8lb test etc ... but these situations are rare and I can get by fine w tying different leaders....

Thats the difference between a spinning reel and a bait caster. Spinning reel can be used for anything if the rod weight is right. A bait caster can't because they are terrible with lighter lures. Especially into the wind. My favorite rod, bait caster under the right conditions.

I get my stuff off of Facebook marketplace or craigslist. I completely agree with a 7’ medium heavy and honestly I use my 6’ 10” medium fast spinning. I just bought an ultralight spinning setup to catch small panfish with my daughter. Don’t be fooled, the gear is not the important part, knowing what to throw where is the deal. I just caught a 3lb smallmouth on a jig on spinning because I’m just not good at baitcasters yet, but I knew it was the right gear for the place I was.

I work at Cabela's and I have customers who are new to fishing who buy light action spinning combos and ask me if a 2oz punching jig would be good to throw and catch big fish. I always chuckle a little bit because I think it's cute. Now I have a video I can direct my customers in the fishing department to why that's not a good idea! I I love when they buy a pflueger trout combo and ask me if a huge musky crankbait is going to work well on the water... I always chuckle because it's sooooo funny! It's a reminder also that people are not as informed as me in bass fishing, and I need that reality check when working there. Another one that gets to me when working is the guy who says he is a seasoned bass angler and catches huge "donkeys" all the time but doesn't know what a Texas rig is....

I used three different ones power medium, medium heavy, heavy rod fast action on and tree. The -moderate action didn't work out for me very good last year. But got all new this year very happy even in cheeper combo.

This is great info! I wish someone would put together a series loaded with videos JUST like this. Starting from the differences in all rods/reels and their use, then cover each aspect of fishing and gear. This would be AWESOME to send to my son so he could watch it from the beginning and learn how to be an Angler. Because I dont know shit lol

Im ashamed to say i still have a zeb 33 rod with a abu black max that i slapped on there. i just got my first spinning combo tho and this video helped so much!! And yes i am one of those guys that goes way over line limits for the zeb 33 lmao its rated like 5-10 and i throw between 10 lb mono and 30 lb braid constantly, im hoping to get a new baitcasting rod soon tho.

Just have to thank you friend, I have watched so many of your videos, I feel like we are friends lol. I finally caught my first bass, I actually got 3 beautiful LMB and I have a decent long spinning rod, 30lb braid to about 8ft of 12lb fluro and with a football jig but the best part was everyone there transferred over to try and catch bass with wacky rigs, top waters etc but I was the only one reeling them in. I told all this to my wife before I saw this video and showed this to her recently, she still thinks the 8 I have are too much. I usually only take 3-5 when bank fishing but one thing I try to do is make those rods versatile. Also I keep in mind what kind of fishing I am going for and I can always return to the car to switch out rods as the day moves on. Just bought a new one for chatterbait and spinnerbait fishing thay can also do other lures. Made that purchase after researching what kind of rod to get from your specific videos 😁 keep up the good work here 🤙🏻 P.s. can we get an updated spinnerbaits tip video? Go down the rabbit hole a bit 👍🏻

Love the explanation of the why you use what you use and the difference between the rods but honestly didn't really explain the differences from using the reels, I've always used spinning rods and want to understand the hype over baitcasters because I have no issue running a little heavier of line on the spinning, I just make sure the weight of the lure or bait isn't unbalancing the rod, and you can get rods rated exactly the same but one's a spinning and ones a baitcaster

I never learned how to throw a bait caster. I found a way to cheat when it comes to throwing big glides on spinning gear. 8’6” xxh fast action Muskie rod rated for up to 16oz lures. Paired with the fastest spinning reel made. It’s like 7.2.1 I believe. 30lb carbon drag. It seems to have plenty of power and speed as It has handled a few 5 and 6 lb bass easily.
@TylersReelFishing

Your issue there is going to be not slicing your finger when you cast it. That’s a heavy weighted lure to cast with your single or double finger controlling the release of the line
@ramboj7924
@ramboj7924 2 жыл бұрын
a baitcaster is not only more comfortable, accurate and has more feedback than a spinning rod but also much more fun and rewarding. baitcasters feel like the rod and reel are one piece with only the reel handle being the other because you can simply press a button to release your spool while a spinning rod feels like 3 different things being the rod, bail arm and reel handle all being awkward to use and recast once you upgarde to a baitcaster you never go back

I have been bass fishing for almost 40 years and nobody has ever shown me why you needed a baitcaster. Many have tried but then I do everything they do but use a spinning reel. I love catching fish while they untangle line.
@nathanjasper512

Same. I mean I haven't been fishing for 40 years, but I've been at it a while and I'm getting to the point where I can basically lift the bail and all that one handed and cast through trees and all that. And when he says you can't use one for everything and expect to catch fish, I don't really buy that. I mean, yeah I know what it's like to not have an ideal setup but I've also caught a whole ton of fish on Jerry rigged setups that I figured out last minute because I didn't really have a whole lot of stuff.

I have the tp1 black bait caster and I love it. I wanted to get the spinning version for lighter stuff but from what I can tell it has the same micro guides as the bait caster and even my FG knot catches on them. Any spinning rod (preferably Lews) suggestions for someone who plans to always fish braid to leader?

A lot of really good information here Tyler, I enjoyed the video. Although I must say I was looking over at my Dobyns Champion 705SF repeatedly during the video and saying to myself, I can throw pretty much all of that (maybe not the big glide bait). Could you actually tell me why I shouldn't? I am very interested if you have the time to respond.
