Few comments on this: I am sure that among the Dortmund supporters you definitely had some idiots misbehaving. However, I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to have the Dortmund fans marching under a bridge surrounded by Newcastle fans. Also I don’t know if English fans are aware of this, but filming the Ultras is a massive provocation and goes beyond your usual banter. Police in Germany is going through this footage to identify group structures and members of certain groups. This can lead to house raids, stadium bans etc. What is more, many of them have probably called in sick at work to make this trip and if your employer sees footage of you walking around in Newcastle there’s a good chance you lose your job. That’s why people got so mad. Still no need or justification for violence on both ends. Just hope for a great rematch in Dortmund with good atmosphere and loads of beers to be shared between all fans. From my personal experience most English fans are good sports and quite similar to us Germans.

I mean, as a general rule, if you're wagging off work to go watch the football, maybe it would be a good idea not to go on a massive march that will draw attention to you where you'll be filmed. Also, if you are 'forming into group structures' that cause the Police to raid houses, you're probably up to no good, and filming you is probably actually a good idea.
@Caoimhin1909
@Caoimhin1909 14 күн бұрын
@@BaronSpamediNot really. Authorities in Germany are champing at the bit to suppress fans and impose collective punishments. One person does wrong, they go after the group. Just because they carry out house raids doesn't mean they're justified.

Great Footage! As Dortmund Supporter I can't imagine such a march of away fans in our city centre. Dortmund has a massive supporting group. From my visits in the english stadiums (walsall, wolves and aston villa) I know the atmosphere. So I could imagine that there would be some clashes. But in Overall Dortmund Fans are very proud on their team and are not as aggressive as it seems in some scenes you caught. Please take the opportunity to come to Dortmund and get fascinated by the yellow wall and stadium. Stay safe and may we see us in the beautifulest stadium of the world😊

I don't understand why the Police allowed the PSG march to the ground or this one. This inevitably creates a confrontational situation. Away fans are free to circulate and drink in any part of the city and make their own way to the ground on a normal match day and in past European games there was none of this, that I can remember. We certainly had no organised "march" to the ground in Milan and I cannot see how they could do it in Paris or Dortmund. Or why anyone would want to be part of one.
@TynesideLife
@TynesideLife 7 ай бұрын
Hi Chris. Ultras are organised groups that are highly motivated and have rudimentary rank structures. They’re almost like a military unit. It’s part of their tradition to march to the stadium, a bit like an army unit going into battle, hence the drums and coordinated chants. We have a different culture and therefore it’s necessary to provide a police escort to ensure the safety of all concerned. We can’t just refuse 2-3K (mainly men) to not congregate and march. That’s impossible

Once again, great video from Tyneside life. My opinion is this. I think the Police and planners haven’t handled this well at all. They’ve allowed PSG and Dortmund fans to over populate bars in the city centre/Big Market area, then they are faced with the difficulty of moving a large group through the most densely packed areas of the city, where emotions are high and the atmosphere tense, which inevitably leads to pockets of trouble. Why don’t they create an away fans zone around Times Square area. They can be contained and then moved up St James Boulevard as the match nears, avoiding the city centre and especially the Blackett Street/Percy street junction/bottle neck under the bridge. Poor planning and Policing.

Great idea, just impossible to organise, manage and execute. Ultras are from a different culture to us snd part of that is their march. If we attempt to stifle that, I can see only one likely outcome. All things considered I thought it went well except for a few minor incidents

Find it really frustrating that our police are more interested in filming and arresting our fans than turning around and seeing what’s actually going on behind them. It’s as if the dortmund fans could do anything without any sort of intervention by police, however if you so much as farted in the direction of the Germans you’d have a police camera pushed in your face. pathetic!!

Fans are separated more strictly here, there is no chance you have hundreds of drunk agressive home fans 3 meter away from the away ultras on their way to the stadium. Looks like it could have easily escalated a lot more, and as fun as it is to give a bit of banter as a normal person to the away team, especially when it's BVB, I personally wouldn't want to fight the first few rows of Dortmund fans where most of them do kickboxing and shit specifically for these occasions.@@TynesideLife

You’ve got this the wrong way around Kev. The police aren’t stopping them from going where they want, they’re providing an escort for their traditional march to the stadium. To do this there is advanced planning and roads are closed to facilitate it. The fact that we have a city centre stadium means the ultras are marching 1/2 mile through our city centre too. Having an organised and policed march is s lot safer than the alternative…

When the away fans have the procession, it seems like a statement that they are marching into enemy territory, I get that it's their fan culture, but not ours so I also get why home fans feel provoked. I don't condone any violence by the way. I just don't think the away supporters should be allowed to do this, they are visiting this country and should be mindful of how our football fan culture is.

@TynesideLife
@TynesideLife 7 ай бұрын
European Ultras have a tradition of marching to opposing teams stadiums. A bit like simulating a military unit going into battle. Many have drums and all have coordinated chants. It’s very impressive and can be intimidating. Ultras are very organised, have rudimentary rank structures and some have extreme right wing views. We in the UK don’t have that kind of organisation with our fans. UK football hooligans are disorganised, drunk and chaotic. Of course, police escorts are necessary for everyone’s safety. There’s just no way around it. If there weren’t any police, there’d be havoc.

@@jaffatanski the march is prearranged and roads are closed in advance. The exact location can change which is what happened with Dortmund. Police know in advance about the march but didn’t know exactly where it would start and then decide their safety strategy etc based on recent intelligence. Why did our people allow drums and megaphones into the stadium?? It ruined the atmosphere and the monotonous one chant per half by their fans was effective in quieting our lot down. Wor flags have done their bit but it’s time for the supporters to organize the singing sections better as English fans are being outdone I’m afraid
@TynesideLife

Hi Alan, we can’t stop them bringing a drum in. It’s not a prohibited article. It annoying for opposing fans but that’s the point. It destroyed our atmosphere and we were quiet for most of the game and that gives their team an advantage. I have to say, being up close to them twice now, I’m very impressed! They’re almost like a military unit going into battle. Highly motivated snd well organised, something I think we could learn from. In my opinion 😃
@Hedged001
@Hedged001 7 ай бұрын
Not sure why English clubs don’t learn from these fans? Almost every European team have these fans. They’re well organised, everyone sings and claps in unison, it’s like a well organised machine. I personally love the drum, has a gearing for battle feel, and helps synchronise the singing, doesn’t have to drum incessantly but initiates the singing. English fans seem disorganised and only sing if they’re winning
