Type 1.5 Diabetes likely affects a lot more people than the medical community may actually realize. According to the American Diabetes Association, of those who were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1.5 Diabetes occurs in 10% of individuals older than 35 years and in ¼ of people below the age of 35!
In this video, you’ll learn how to distinguish between type 1 diabetes, type 1.5 diabetes, and insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes.

I feel it ! all of it ! I have had lots of complications with 15 years of T1D. I can go from a low BG of 59 mg/dL to a very high BG of 501 mg/dL in the same day. There’s a lots of variables that affect our BG, but definitely nutrition makes this changes more predictable.

Thinking I may be type 3c. More info on this would be fantastic. Was diagnosed with type 2 four years ago. The Mastering Diabetes method has helped me make massive improvements. Unfortunately, I've been in hospital for nearly two weeks now and the best the hospital can provide is heavily processed vegan freezer meals. My blood glucose levels are starting to get out of control 😔. Can't wait to get home and start eating a real whole food plant based diet again. Thanks for the video 👍

I've been diagnosed with Lada but my symptoms were similar to full type 1 by the time they were found. Rapid weight loss, dry mouth, frequent urination and by the time I went to hospital high blood sugar and ketones. They were worried I was going to end up in dka and since have found ia2 antibodies and "normal" but low c peptide. My blood sugar on going into hospital was 20 mmol/l and ketones were 5.1 mmol/l.

I was undiagnosed ( type ? ) diabetic at the age of 60, hospitalized with blood sugars of 500… With an A1c of 15.. I immediately decided carbs were not for me based on my knowledge of diabetes… The first year was going well .. I decided to see an endocrinologist who did more testing as a result I am diagnosed as a 1.5. Now tired and sluggish 😔…not super excited about switching to plant based… Willing to consider an 80/20 to feel better, looking forward to regaining energy. Thank you for this information.

@@MasteringDiabetes Is there a link between hypothyroidism (diagnosed as a toddler) and diabetes? I was diagnosed with Type 2 many years ago (15?), but just started using short-acting insulin a few days ago (I started long-acting insulin in January of this year, 2022). I'm just curious if this is ALL the result of nutrition and other environmental factors or could it just be that my body is not making enough insulin (or perhaps a bit of both)? In some ways, I feel like * I alone * caused my need for insulin (diet, etc), but in other ways, maybe my body is just not able to produce enough insulin. My lipid profile has always been normal.

So I don’t even bother telling ppl I’m 1.5 I just say I have diabetes and I’m insulin dependent.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 10 years ago(with 400 ml/dl glycemic),and after 10 years of drastic regime but without any drugs (for 9,5 years i was with normal glycemic index 120-135 ml/dl) , now my index glycemic not go down under 170 ml/dl even i fasting or do a lot of sport...so i go for my doctor and after he see my analyze (C peptide with valor 1,26 ng/ml) , she say i have diabetes type LADA and i not insulin resistance at all (only my beta cells form pancreas not produce more than 24% from total) ... so she prescribe me the 10 mg of Jardiance at day , and after 3 days my glycemic index is 103 ml/dl.(i hope i not go hypoglycemic). What is better ? ... do 1 shot insulin at night for 24 hour or go on with that pill Jardiance.(Jardiance have some side effect like develop some issues on kidney , some rare infection at genital zone , etc.). What about modulator therapy (DIAPEP 277 , DIAMYD(GAD65) , monoclonal antibodies anti CD3 ... can help more and efficacy without take pills or insulin shot? Hi Cyrus, is it possible to be obese but still have type 1.5 (or type 2 with beta cell death)? My stepfather (84 years old) has been eating perfectly for months and dropped his sugar from 400 down to a steady 140-170 in the morning without any meds, but it doesn’t seem to go below that despite his best efforts. Is it possible he could need additional insulin even though his is obese? It would seem to me that if your insulin level is low the sugar may be high but over time you will be thinner more like a a type 1. FYI he also did a water fast a year ago for 10 days. His glucose never dropped below 120 by the end of 10 days.

I was rarely above 200 (usually after dinner once in a while) but my symptoms were very aggressive. I suffered like this for 6 years bc my doctor felt my A1C was very low (routinely 5.9 to 6.2) and that I should feel just fine. I was not feeling fine at all. I finally started myself on insulin and it was the best thing I could have ever done. Immediately felt so much better. I'll gladly stay on insulin for the rest of my life.

Don’t listen to the diet part of this. Yes, intermittent and extended fasting work wonders for your insulin sensitivity (along with exercise). But plant based, whole food diets are often full of carbs. Carbs are the enemy of diabetes. Only carbs. Eat a heavy fatty meat diet (keto or carnivore). I tried everything over the first few years of my diagnosis. Everything changed when I started eating Keto (now I’m carnivore).
